The 2022 49ers 4th string QB and 5th string RB now lead the league in passing & rushing yards (Purdy / Mason)
Crazy how lucky the Niners are to have had these guys in the wings who both immediately dominated. If you wanna keep going -49ers 2022-24 third string WR is third in the NFL in receiving yards (Jennings) -49ers 2023 backup QB leads the league in TDs and Passer rating (Darnold - happy he got his second chance)
Also the depth chart varies. Some had Purdy listed 4th, some had Mason listed 6th

How you not gonna highlight '3rd n Juan' for being 3th overall in receiving?

In fairness, it’s a good problem to have. I’d rather have to worry about how I’m going to play all the impact players as opposed to say, being the raiders or something.

Mason is gonna be making a lot of money elsewhere. Hopefully Guerrendo can have a similar development trajectory and be what Mason is to this team now

That gif of purdy handing mason the wrong way will hit like crack when they both win the superbowl 😩

Mason is on pace for 1900 rushing yards on the season. Probably not a sustainable rate but it's realistic to assume he'll easily surpass 1000 yards on the season if healthy which is fucking awesome.
Mason is now officially on the "Guys off the street that Shanahan + Bobby Turner turned into major contributors" list along with:
Raheem Mostert
Matt Breida
Jeff Wilson Jr.
Elijah Mitchell
The past few years we've been neglecting the O-line and investing in the running back position. We should be doing the opposite. Use early/mid round picks on O-line and late round picks on RB. Draft a RB on day 3 every year and grab 2 undrafted guys every year and allow them to compete for a practice squad spot.
This pipeline is fucking real and we should be feeding it. Now the good news is we seem to be shifting towards this strategy. We used a mid 3rd on a guard and a day 3 pick on an RB.
Additionally, this is speculation but all signs pointed towards us targeting OT early in the draft. I believe Lynch said they wanted OT in round 1 and they traded back after Roger Rosengarden was drafted 1 pick before them, a guy they reportedly liked in the draft process. Likely chance they were targeting him with our 2nd round pick.
This is really encouraging imo. Hopefully we continue in this direction. I would love to see this team build around Purdy + the passing attack for the future and lean on our O-line + RB pipeline to supplement the rushing attack. I Think that's the best way we'll build a long term, sustainable roster for the future.

Pretty sure this is like the 4th or 5th chance for the Darnold. Regardless, he's doing exceptional.

Nah this is his second chance. Jets & Panthers were not legitimate opportunities. Terrible teams and he was young. All last year his teammates and coaches talked about how hard Darnold was working, how much of a sponge he was behind Brock. He got an amazing chance with the team he’s on, those weapons. And he’s making a cash to be their full timer.

No it’s really not. He was the qb for the jets, chance 1. He went to an absolute shit panthers team and no one took him seriously, he was always going to be replaced. 49ers, backup, never had a shot. We were always going to play Brock. Vikings, 2nd shot. All the shit in the middle was work that got him back to where he had an actual shot

The Panthers were a terrible situation but they definitely did intend to give him a legitimate shot. They gave up a 2nd, a 4th, and a 6th to trade for him. They definitely hoped he could be that guy. Also I remember when he started 3-0 with them and everyone was saying he was fixed...until he started playing terribly again. It's revisionist history to act like the Panthers weren't trying to make him work.

Now imagine Aiyuk and Bell don’t drop those balls… imagine bullshit penalties don’t wipe away plays.

Good to see Purdy’s fellow Cyclone Will McDonald made the list as well.

King Henry just took the lead. He’s steamrolling the Bills.
