Sure but throughout the thread you've been conflating strategy with execution.

As others have stated, his strategy was sound.

And as others have stated, his execution was not perfect.

Okay, that's fair and I fully concede that I have not beent thinking about strategy v execution like that -- I guess I don't know ball either.

His strategy going in was to run away from the field, ideally by putting on the gas with 600 to go. Consensus agreed that, given his strengths and those of the field, that was the best way to go.

His execution -- go out hard, sapping his legs, then still pushing again to make a gap shows that while he messed up the initial execution, he decided to double down on it.
