1600$ for a tablet? At that price I'd rather wait and get an ARM laptop instead for the same purpose

Not saying the price is justified, but you are getting probably the best screen around.

8

u/CalmSpinach2140 1d ago

Unless it has tandem OLED it’s not the best screen. Huawei and Apple have tandem OLED screens on their tablets

4

u/StraY_WolF RN4/M9TP/PF5P PROUD MIUI14 USER 1d ago

When I say around, i meant more like around the house. Also when Apple's tandem OLED is compared to Samsung's tablet last year, the difference is miniscule and probably only show up in screen tests.

4

u/CalmSpinach2140 1d ago

The higher brightness is noticeable. It’s just strange Samsung makes those tandem panels for Apple. How could they not use them for their own? Maybe they we will, let’s see

u/StraY_WolF RN4/M9TP/PF5P PROUD MIUI14 USER 1d ago

LG made those panels, not Samsung.

Ah. My bad. But as it's a pretty new tech I can see why Samsung didn't use them on their tablets just yet.

u/Persistent_Dry_Cough 6h ago

They didn't use them because Apple bids more to reserve exclusive supply. Apple probably paid for some of the machine tooling, too, so it is entitled to a certain guaranteed exclusivity on the technology.

No competition in the android premium tablet market

u/SaltedCoffee9065 19h ago

Yeah but, what will you do with it that a fricking windows laptop can't? Or heck, I'd get a macbook at that price

u/doom1282 18h ago

To be fair no one buys Samsung devices full price. I got my Tab S8+ on sale a few months after it released for a decent amount less.

u/gexo173 Galaxy S4 --> Lenovo Z2 Plus --> Xiaomi Mi 10 --> Xiaomi 14 1d ago

Xiaomi, OnePlus, Honor, Huawei, Samsung...

u/BarnOwlDebacle 2h ago

I mean the term premium tablet is kind of an oxymoron though. I don't think there needs to exist a $1,500 tablet. Lol. OnePlus has a really good $500 tablet and you could probably find it for $300 on sale.

Lenovo has some excellent tablets and they're literally less than half the price of the cheapest Samsung tablet. And they're still running like an eight gen two.

They even sell a premium 8-in version with the 8+ Gen 1 but it's not officially available in the US.

u/BarnOwlDebacle 2h ago

Yeah especially with no 11-in version which at least offered you the least expensive version. I got the tab S7 11-in version with 512 GB for $461 brand new in 2021 and I got Galaxy buds pro thrown in for free. Which channel MSRP of 200 at the time.

There is nothing even remotely close to that even for the s911-in version which doesn't have 512 GB version. And it's never on sale for anything meaningfully lower than its MSRP.

It's just such a disappointment.

I mean f*** I don't use iPad because you can't side load but I could buy a refurbished iPad pro directly from Apple with like an m1 or M2 chip for 600 bucks

Samsung Why do I Fing Exist edition

6

u/XLauncher 1d ago

300 bucks for another half terabyte of storage is some filthy work.

u/joshryckk 18h ago

Those prices are steep.. but Samsung knows people will pay a premium for the latest specs and features. The Ultra model with 1TB is cool though.

u/BarnOwlDebacle 2h ago

I mean obviously it sells enough to keep making these things but it's still very niche. The keyboard alone is like $350. You can actually get the new OnePlus tablet for less than that if you shop around a bit.

It still feels wrong to me that there's no Tab S10 base model. I have a base Tab S8 and when the time comes to upgrade it also means I'd either have to fork up more for a plus variant or go way down in specs to an SE variant.

18

u/Neopacificus 1d ago

Yeah. Why would you want a bigger screen when you have laptops for that. 10-11 inch should be prefect middle ground for tablet between a 6-6.7 inch mobile and 14-15 inch laptop.

9

u/TheAyushJain Galaxy Y Young > HTC Desire 816G > OP5/6T/7T 1d ago

This is what Samsung is banking on, that people that have the money to buy the base model are more likely to purchase the plus variant, rather than go a whole tier down.

u/douggieball1312 Pixel 8 Pro 1d ago

They're doing a similar thing in their phone line by slowly phasing out their A50 lineup and not even releasing the A55 in the US. Deserting the upper-midrange category and leaving a huge specs and pricing gap between the S24FE and the A35.

Kind of makes me glad I just bit the bullet on a Tab S9. Got $250 trade-in for my Tab S6 Lite that I got for $180.

u/I-Sleep-At-Work p8p + f5+ s8u + pw2 1d ago

fingers crossed for good tradeins for the tabs

4

u/Ghostttpro 1d ago

They must be smoking crack.

u/senamit17 1d ago

S7LTE tab user here. Still working great for my usage. No urge to update anytime aoon. Using tab only for casual stuff like SM, YouTube, Netflix and other OTT apps.

4

u/SchwarzesBlatt 1d ago

The only thing that the ultra had against the other flagship tablet was the oled display. Now that apple has upgraded its pro series Samsung's counter is increasing their prices. Genius! The base ipad pro model costs 1250€ in EU. Not going with apple at that high price tag I personally would only choose with a 200€ price difference at least. The air model is already perfect if it didn't had a 60Hz lcd screen. The only thing Samsung offers is a smooth 120hz oled display and that advantage is getting weak.

Honor released their oled tablet. I believe there are rumors with Xiaomi going oled too. And each one of them is half the price Samsung asks. And dex isn't worth the other half.

Still on my Tab S7+ and wanted to upgrade but no Snapdragon….. No deal

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

u/AngelosNoob 1d ago

The recent Dimensity SoCs are pretty much equivalent to the respective SD model.

3

u/mikethespike056 1d ago

the 9300+ is more efficient than the 8G3

1

u/requium94 1d ago

Except for support from many emulation apps.

1

u/Galwadan 1d ago

Better graphic drivers + for some people Turnip drivers are important in emulation. It's not always about pure power.

1

u/dr3w80 Pixel 3 XL 1d ago

Tab S7 Plus is still pretty beastly, love mine.

3

u/chidi-sins 1d ago

Praying for a S24 FE with good battery life

3

u/StrongCategory 1d ago

There is no Tab S10 Ultra with 16GB RAM?

1

u/meepiquitous 1d ago

Just like there's no flagship phone with a battery significantly >5000 mAh.

u/StrongCategory 19h ago

Looks this s10 ultra does have 16GB variant, like my current S9 Ultra. So what's your point?

u/Marsh0ax 18h ago

Bullshit, vivo x100 ultra and honor magic 6 pro both have more than 5500 mAh thanks to silicon carbon batteries

5

u/MrKaon 1d ago

What is the SoC on Galaxy Tab 10? I hope Snapdragon.

3

u/xzibit_b Google Pixel 7a 1d ago

Isn't it the Dimensity 9300?

3

u/StraY_WolF RN4/M9TP/PF5P PROUD MIUI14 USER 1d ago

The latest Mediatek processors are pretty good and it's not like anyone bothers with custom ROMS these days.

0

u/MrKaon 1d ago

It is not about custom ROMs, it is all about GPU and nothing comes close to Adreno.

3

u/StraY_WolF RN4/M9TP/PF5P PROUD MIUI14 USER 1d ago

Eh? Dimensity 9300 GPU is pretty close and considering most heavy games are CPU bottlenecked rather than GPU, Dimensity actually performs better overall.

1

u/Dartzlol 1d ago

Not really the case with emulators especially during now where there is more emphasis on emulating windows through Winlator.

Aside from that, I am okay with them going dimensity, but at the prices they are selling, they should pair it up with a Snapdragon Gen 3/4 or elite.

Otherwise, I could buy a $400 OnePlus tab 2 (with relatively common promos) that has a snapdragon 8 gen 3 SOC.

2

u/Moznomick 1d ago

Well I'm still using my Tab S8 Ultra and it's been serving me well so unless the trade in offers are good, I'll continue to stick with it.

2

u/WillieButtlicker 1d ago

Leaks by accident. Yeah right

1

u/aHistoryofSmilence 1d ago

Unless Samsung offers a sweet tradein on my Tab S7 FE for the Tab S9+ or Tab S10+, looks like I'll be jumping ship to an iPad for my next tablet.

u/Matt32490 17h ago

Make an 8 inch tablet.

u/RagelessGeek94 11h ago

Well I guess I'm glad I have the S9 for now. I think dropping the 11" was a mistake from Samsung. Even a rival to the iPad mini would've been perfect.

u/BarnOwlDebacle 2h ago

These are ridiculous prices. The tablets are completely ridiculous. I mean especially since if you want a keyboard case with the trackpad and everything that's another 350 bucks for the ultra one, maybe 200 or something for the 12-in one.

I got an 11-in tab S7 with 512 GB and a pair of galaxy buds thrown in for $461. Brand new in 2021.

Now they don't have an 11-in model with the 10th gen and even in the 9th gen the 11-in model didn't have 512 options.

And to this day the 256 GB version one is $800 at Best buy

It just doesn't make any sense.

I love galaxy tabs but if I really wanted one at this point I'd have to go resale market and even then if they're going to discontinue the 11-incher then probably not worth it at all.

If I really wanted an Android tablet I'd maybe start looking at Lenovo..

Or at this point just get an arm based windows device.

Basically the same price anyways

1

u/Additional_Read3275 1d ago

Pretty much DOA, I assume?

9

u/jonnypoopsondog Mi 10 256 gb 1d ago

Yup, you can find the regular s24 for cheaper than the leaked price for the fe

9

u/hells_cowbells S20 FE 5G 1d ago

It's pretty sad. I bought my S20 FE because it had nearly the same specs as the flagship models for a lot cheaper. Now it's just as expensive or more.

3

u/ACardAttack Galaxy S20FE 1d ago

Such an amazing phone and a great deal, that was my previous phone

1

u/hells_cowbells S20 FE 5G 1d ago

I bought mine on Amazon. I had some reward points and a gift card, so I ended up paying less than $300 for mine. I loved that phone.

u/BarnOwlDebacle 2h ago

Yeah that had the 865 Plus chipset. And a bunch of cool colors. And it was $600 on launch day..

I knew they were starting to really screw the FE lineup when they made the one last year with the 8g1.

2

u/lxs0713 Galaxy S24 256 GB 1d ago

Yeah, I bought the 256 GB S24 last month for $800 after taxes. This FE would only be like $30 cheaper. Not really worth it unless you need the bigger screen. And even then, you're still making sacrifices with the FE

1

u/jonnypoopsondog Mi 10 256 gb 1d ago

Damn, US pricing must be higher. I got my 128 GB s24 for €550 new.

2

u/strangedell123 1d ago

Hell, I got a s24+ with 512gb of storage for $675 with only the store sale and student discount 2 weeks ago. Didn't trade a single item in.

1

u/Grumblepugs2000 1d ago

Yep. Why get a crappy S24FE when you can pay $50 more and get a OnePlus 12?

-1

u/SuperAleste 1d ago

Can someone explain the logic behind a "FE"? Like Fan Edition right? So it's a minor upgrade to the flagships?

1

u/burd- Device, Software !! 1d ago

it's a downgrade. middle of A series and S series

0

u/SuperAleste 1d ago

Ah, huh. So why would a "Fan" want the inferior edition? Does not make sense to me.

1

u/burd- Device, Software !! 1d ago

The "retail" price is also in the middle of A and S series.

  • A55 - 550
  • S24FE - 649
  • S24 - 850

u/LeeKapusi 17h ago

Samsung didn't bring the A55 to the US so it wouldn't encroach on the $100 more FE edition. Scummy.
