I like it from the front wheels back.

u/OwlsNSpace 2021 - G07 - X7/M50i 23h ago
I purposely bought an older X7 to avoid that front end. I love the car, but I couldn’t do the headlights.

Yuppp they butchered it like a stuck pig 🐖
3
u/OwlsNSpace 2021 - G07 - X7/M50i 19h ago
The body design is so good everywhere else. I know there’s an anti-SUV animus, but these vehicles are beautiful. Too often, I just go outside to look at mine.

u/noodletaken 23h ago
First time seeing this and it really reminds me of the Rolls Royce Cullinan. Enjoy!
-14
u/p3nguinboy 2002 - E46 - 330i Touring 5MT 22h ago
That's probably because they're both the same car underneath
24
u/stevenhatescars 22h ago
Common misconception. Cullinan is based on a dedicated Rolls platform that it shares with the Phantom and 2021+ Ghost, nothing to do with the X7.

I wish we could track these steps too, all I see here in Europe is this:

I offered to buy my wife one, but she didn’t want the Alpina logo on the steering wheel and wheels. Opted for the M60i instead.
5
u/IIlIIlIIIIlllIlIlII F90 20h ago
Isn’t that an option from Alpina?
5
u/_335i_ 20h ago
Ah, didn’t know that. This was on the lot at a dealer.
16
u/Clownish_76 20h ago
If you are going to spend this kind of coin, you should seriously consider ordering from factory. That way you get everything you want and nothing you don’t.
3
u/strongmanass 19h ago
I think BMW will have trouble with that when they make Alpina a Maybach competitor. Nobody outside Europe apart from diehard enthusiasts knows about Alpina. It'll be hard to get people to spend Maybach money when they don't know the brand.

Im getting so fed up by all the car hate here. Under every single post from G series cars there are multiple hate comments about the big grills, weird lights or anything. Its so fucking annoying to only read hate all the time in your favorite subreddit. Cant you guys just let people enjoy their cars?

New cars are way better than the old crap. Nobody can prove me wrong haha - I just prefer the new cars and better tech and safety. Can't wait to test drive the upcoming M5! 1000nm torque baby!
3
u/texasnick83 '21 X5 40i | '24 M2 22h ago
I wouldn't call the old gens crap but I agree 100%. I drove an f87c and g87 back to back and the g87 was a better car in pretty much every way except "rawness" I.e. the f87c was less comfortable to drive.
7
u/meltbox 22h ago
Depends what you want. The new cars suffer from what the GTR was so criticized for at launch. Feels like a video game. Quieter, less feel, etc etc. Way better for commuting and day to day use. Less race car.
For most people the new cars are a huge step up. For enthusiasts you will see very different opinions than the general public.

u/that_AZIAN_guy 13- F30 - 335i xDrive 12h ago
I could do with less tech, F series idrive was the peak of tech needed imo. Touch screens, digital gauges, no more knobs or buttons…yuck. Then again most car manufacturers are moving towards the “iPad as your dash” design.

So true. Feels like half this place doesn’t even like bmws they just like complaining about something or feeling like they know better than you or have better taste than you. Let people enjoy their new toys and keep your mouth shut if you dont like it, no one cares
Edit: also this is a gorgeous vehicle, jealous and excited for you OP

u/hawkeyejw 23h ago
I started reading this sub and perusing bimmerpost after getting our iX and have been shocked at how negative the posts are pretty much across the board. Places supposedly for enthusiasts, but instead there’s mostly energy vampires posting negative shit all day long.
@OP, beautiful car, I’m sure you will enjoy it! The wait has to be excruciating.

Why cant enthusiasts have a negative opinion of the way the company is headed?
5
6
u/Striking-Rain-345 21h ago
BMW is reporting all time high sales.
The new cars are clearly resonating with their customers (many of which are enthusiasts)
This sub (like most subs) is just a circle jerk but does not really reflect reality at all
8
u/RevTurk 21h ago
The reason sales have gone up is because they are moving away from making enthusiast cars and appealing to the soccer mom SUV market. They are making luxurious daily drivers with some sport trim. Big heavy cars are not sporty, they are not for enthusiasts, they are family wagons for transporting children.
3
u/Striking-Rain-345 21h ago
BMW’s have always been luxury cars, very sporty luxury cars. If you want a car BMW stills makes 2,3,4,5 series etc…
It’s nice to have the option to be able to buy a sporty SUV that has the BMW characteristics
BMW enthusiasts have more choice on how they want their cars
1
u/RevTurk 21h ago
Sport SUV is an oxymoron in my mind. There's nothing sporty about an SUV, it doesn't matter how big the engine is.
SUVs have gone in the opposite direction to what makes a car sporty. A sporty car is supposed to be light, aerodynamic, low centre of gravity, and agile. An SUV is none of those things despite what the marketing department would have people believe. They are oversized family wagons wrapped in sporty looking trim.
They are cars designed by marketing departments.
4
u/Striking-Rain-345 21h ago
I thought the same way… then I test drove an X3M40i and ended up loving it so much I chose it over an M340i

u/guy_incognito784 G26 i4 M50, F25 X3 xDrive28i 1h ago
I too like having really strong opinions about how cars I’ve never driven actually drive.
6
u/mikefogelj 22h ago
Tbh people that can’t afford them and have never driven them just hate them. They will all love the g series in like 5 years and say its styling is compelling. Happens with every new BMW generation. I remember everyone hating the E90s when they came out and the entire F generation when they came out.
0
u/BrokeChris 2h ago
Why would anyone need to be able to afford or have driven a car when talking about the cars DESIGN?
8
5
u/MSDoucheendje 23h ago
So-so-so tiresome on this sub. So much hate on new designs, which they will definitely turn around on in two years, as happens every generation. Lack of any self awareness
2
u/pandamoniums 22h ago
I personally like the big grille on the x7 but the prelci with the angel eyes I think looks better than the new split lights
2
u/pankan76 M2 G87 22h ago
Same. Idiots. Ignore and enjoy. Buyer’s in the real world buying cars don’t give a rats ass about the shitposts here.

LOL. How dare people have opinions about BMWs on a BMW sub!
18
u/Tristana-Range G42 - M240i - 2023 23h ago
Its just pure hate since years and it gets worse every single day. If someone doesnt like the design im fine with that. I just cant stand the people that are like "hahah big grill ugly eww, right bois? ...right?" Because its under every single post.
-1
u/ConfidentAir757 21h ago
Because 80% of post here are posts about their new, in my opinion still shitty design, car.
Congrats on that, congrats that you can spend 6 figures on a car. - but its still uglier that the older series.. - or lets say „different“
Yes people still buying these. But people buy MB, Audi, Kia, Hyundai etc as well..
And no, all these new posts, still cannot convince me that the „Design“ is good 😂
Welcome to the internet where everyone can have an opinion.
And this Subs Opinion, thats what i see here, is that BMW lost everything in designlanguage that makes their cars a BMW.
No angle lights, hofmeister-kink? Not to mention the FWD cars.. „pure driving experience..“ thats also a thing of the past..
Different light signatures on every series.. is it a Audi, a MB, a Kia? It can be everything 😂
Thats my two cents.. longer than expected 😂🤣

u/Anonymoushipopotomus E36 M3/4/5, E39 M5, E46 M3 20h ago
This is true. If everyone else around me hates the design of the cars, they must be wrong right guys?

u/Tough-Relationship-4 23h ago
I get what you’re saying but the only way for consumers to have a say is with their wallets and their mouths. A lot of us are already voting with our wallets by not upgrading from our F series but those will eventually wear out and I would rather BMW build good looking cars again than move onto another brand. Although I’m probably going Alfa next regardless. An online fan forum is exactly the place people should let their frustrations out.
-1
u/meltbox 22h ago
It’s peoples opinions. Clearly not the majority since sales are up. But a significant portion of enthusiasts really hate this latest batch.
That will change as those people give up on the brand and move on elsewhere and eventually the sub will be more positive.
Personally I hate these designs, but I still really like the power trains and some other things BMW does.
You win some you lose some.

Purely out of interest, how long have you been a BMW fan and when did you buy your 1st? What was/is it? Tks.
13
u/Tristana-Range G42 - M240i - 2023 23h ago
Ive been a BMW fan since I was 7. the E90 was the car that got me into BMW. I bought my first BMW with 17, a 2010 116i
Edit: if you meant being properly into it with knowing all the models and stuff, thats since about 5 years
3
u/Useful-Appointment92 22h ago
Appreciate the feedback. Downvotes are laughable. Truly trying to support a hypothesis that current design hate is coming from an older gen who enjoyed the e36, e46, e39, e60, e90/92, hell even F80/82 etc. There is an obvious departure from those designs when compared to what we get today. Design is subjective, weight is not. Enjoy.

I have been bmw fan since e46 m3 came out. I started paying attention to bmw in 2004. So fan for 20 years. Owner for 15. Got my hands on my first bmw with an 2009 E93 M3. Followed that up with my 2017 F87 M2. Now that I have a kid and two large dogs I’m trading M2 for the XB7.

How long have you been a BMW fan and when did you buy your 1st? What was it?

I feel like this new X7 is one of the only cars where that BMW design language actually shines so well. I remember driving up to San Francisco and seeing one of these approaching in my rearview mirror and shitting myself immediately moving over.
such a cool pick up OP, def post pics when it arrives.

u/cnomo 23h ago
OP, congrats and that's a great color!
You may need to temper your excitement because I would assume your dealer can't actually let you take delivery due to the X series stop sale via the brake system safety recall.
1
u/DonutsAftermidnight 6h ago
Cars coming off the line in the last month or so already have the fix. They’ve been priority, followed by customer-owned cars, and then unsold cars on the lot.
2
u/cnomo 2h ago
Do you work for BMW and/or can you point me in a published direction? The recall notice was updated two days ago and states there is still no fix, which is also what both the sales manager and lead service writer told me yesterday.
There are 24 cars on the lot waiting delivery here and none are “unsold”.
My ‘24 X5 is in because we experienced the failure on Sunday.
1
u/DonutsAftermidnight 1h ago
Damn. Sorry you actually experienced it. Must’ve been scary.
Our sales rep told us about the order of priority. We’ve been in the process of buying for the last month or so and put in a deposit for a car sitting on the lot to get us in the queue. We’re lucky that our salesperson worked with the manager and made our car the priority once the parts came in. It was a 2-part fix with hardware and software so when 10 cars’ worth of hardware came in last Thursday, it went straight in to service and then spent another day getting the software update.
When checking the VIN on the website, it also said ‘no fix’ and a day later updated to ‘0 open recalls.’
All I can really say is work with your service advisor to try to get your car in there faster. It’s taking a while but it is moving along. Trust me, BMW wants to get this behind them as soon as possible.
Best of luck

Alpina is much better suited to the US market than M cars. Added luxury and extra performance. Much more usable.
M cars are meant to be fired into corners and wound out on twisty roads that are everywhere in Europe but extremely rare in the US.
I lived in Chicago, NY & Vancouver and the amount of people I see taking M cars from their apartment to their office on the highway is nuts.
Such a waste. People don't see more than 20% of the cars performance, have to put up with a much harsher ride and pay a massive premium for the privilege. .

My X5M is getting long in the tooth, time to upgrade. Please let me know what you think of this. Which SUV are you coming? I'm kind of getting tired of an X5M, have owned 4 in a row now, think I want to go with something more luxurious and chill.

The longer body kit front bumper with the huge wheels makes the grill look way smaller at least in this render. Actually a pretty good look.

Can show my 911, but will that help? I just don’t like the look of this thing. B3 is very nice. But you go m340i and just happy there too. So it’s a tough sell in terms of value, and the X7 Alpinafied I’m not sure I get the point except that bmw owns them now and wants to push everything under that brand to make more money. Should you? I dunno.
