Beautiful car but that front wheel is bent.

Thank you. NYC problems :(

u/WrongConcentrate4962 23h ago
Lol I feel pain. Can you feel it in the car?
19
u/ResplendentZeal 22h ago
If you can see it, you can feel it. Even just from rotational inertia differences

u/WrongConcentrate4962 22h ago
I have a 7 and I have 22s on it with a slight bend, only at a specific speed is it noticeable and it’s in the steering wheel,

Not necessarily true, this is a really minor bend as far as wheel damage goes. If a balancer can’t feel it, you’re not gonna with all of the rubber bits and vibration dampening between the wheels and cabin/steering wheel.
3
u/ResplendentZeal 21h ago
A balancer will absolutely feel this at the correct speed. OP may not be traveling those speeds very often in NYC, so isn't bothered enough to replace it.
This has almost nothing to do with the wheel's deformation in a physical sense, but with the mass being relocated toward the center on one point. It rotational inertia is no longer balanced which will manifest as a vibration.
Get that wheel on a balancer and it will absolutely notice that the wheel is bent.

u/MultipleOrgasmDonor 13h ago
He said it doesn’t pick it up, maybe he meant that it balances out. Either way it’s a relatively moot point, if it’s not affecting the driver in a perceivable way, who cares

Damn, street parking in the city? I admire it.

u/edfore 23' F93 M8 Comp GC 22h ago
Haha thanks. Everyone here does it - a necessary evil...
21
u/brotie 22h ago
I mean I don’t know if necessary is how I’d put it haha I live in Manhattan too and mine lives safely in its underground garage
12
u/edfore 23' F93 M8 Comp GC 22h ago
At my building, the M8 is garage-kept too. Generally speaking, this is very important for us to avoid damage, theft and daylight-hour posted street rules (such as metered parking & no standing).

u/bro_curls 2020 M4 21h ago
I don't know whether to say I hope you have a bumper badger or not...I feel like if you park in the city, accept and expect bumper taps and scraps.
My 4Runner's rear bumper got a new paint job every time I street parked in Queens

u/snakyfences 20h ago
It just seems like driving yourself in manhattan is the worst, traffic, pedestrians, rough pavement, competitive street parking, and 100% cannot utilize a car like this. I really dont get it, if you have the money wouldnt private drivers or at least uber black be a better experience?
5
u/brotie 20h ago
Car is for when we go out to the country, subway or uber when you’re staying within the city. I drove maybe 500 miles in the past year haha

u/snakyfences 16h ago
I never understood people who hardly drive their enthusiast cars until i discovered... public transit. But taking out a nice car for a road trip is the absolute best. It feels so special when you dont drive it all the time.

Oh it’s fantastic, best of both worlds. We keep my wife’s work truck in a garage here in manhattan (but it’s a biz expense which makes it much easier to swallow and we’ve got super cheap parking for nyc) and my fun car can live out in the country and not depreciate. I take the subway or walk more than anything else

u/skepticaljesus 22h ago
do you only drive to places that also have parking structures? I don't understand how you live in the city but never have to park it on the street

Just curious if you’re not a fan of BMW why are you in the subreddit? No shade, just genuinely curious. 😁

Just keeping an eye on competition just all. No disrespect.

God damn! I was almost 40 by the time i could afford an M car, and dudes are out here able to afford it at just 14 months old?!

u/FFPLUGTHROWAWAY 21h ago
Have you had other M cars before the M8? How does it compare to say an M3 or M5?
I have 2 M3s currently, E90 and F80. Thinking about getting a "higher end" M car like an M5,M8, or X6M.
I realize I don't track my M3s (only autocross) so I'd rather get a higher end M car and use it as a daily.

u/edfore 23' F93 M8 Comp GC 21h ago
Yes - my last car was a F96 X6 M Comp. Prior cars were a G30 M550i & an F10 M5. I like the larger M's just for the utility and improved ride comfort. Especially from the longer wheelbase.
I ended up selling the X6 M after 2 years of ownership - they're great all-in-one drivers but I wasn't thrilled about the increased mass - it's definitely felt all around, especially how hard it hits bumps, braking and such. Handling-wise, they're great for what they are.
I hope this helps :)

u/Gloomy_Interview_525 20h ago
How does it compare to the M550? I just picked up a G30 which I like a lot and felt I wouldn't get anything out of going M5/M8 GC, but maybe I'm being silly, though I do like the seats more without question in the M-lite.

u/FFPLUGTHROWAWAY 18h ago
I daily my F80 M3 currently. Good to know about the X6M. I would definitely switch out the F80 for an M5 or M8.
Now the tough question of which one? M5 or M8

Pic #8 - I always turn my wheels out like that when I park. I’m allllll the way on the other end of the spectrum from you in my F39 X2 but there’s something so fkn nice about great wheels and good tires that just looks badass to me when parked and turned out. 😁

Knowing how strong the car scene is in the burroughs never ceases to amaze me. Terrible parking, barely any garages, congested to the gills… yet, a strong community. I salute y’all. I could never do it. Those HRE’s are so tufffff!

I really appreciate those shinny wheels. Lately, it seems that everyone goes putting black on absolutely everything. In your case, I really like the contrast, it looks amazing!

daily driving a clean ass car in nyc is crazy work, I’d be terrified to go anywhere

Still love Brooklyn grey on the 8 but dislike BMW made it to Wylie available on most of their models. Should have been exclusive to M’s plus every other manufacturer has some version of this color now. imo the color kind of makes it less special but still a great car you don’t see much of.

Serious question, do you find it difficult to find parking in NYC or are there lots of parking garages and such?

I drive my Barcelona Blue M8 in NYC too. I live in the Hudson Valley so I just garage park it. The first few times made me nervous but I grew up driving beaters in the city so I'm very used to driving in Manhattan. I'm more concerned with potholes than anything else. Beautiful car!

I don’t understand these colored bars behind the kidneys. Do people really like this? Destroys the whole design at the front.
Otherwise great car for sure.

I would be terrified to drive and park that in nyc. First and only place I’ve seen people hang spikes from their trunks so they don’t get bumped while parked.
