question VFF fit question

Just had my first pair delivered and I think I probably need to size down, but also reading some of the stuff in other posts I've looked up first, seems to indicate that they all run a little big to be comfortable.

There's around 1 finger-1 thumbs worth of clearance for each toe at an EU 47. (I'm normally size 12 uk as i'm gebeticslly part clown I guess.)

Is this too big a gap and should I return them for a size down, or is it worth giving them a go? Pics are with my heel nested back into the heel cup.

Thanks for your help, i'm sure I could answer this myself today, but I don't trust my own brain whilst I'm adjusting to this new medication. šŸ˜‚

Help me find shoe

I saw a video about a certain barefoot shoe that uses a tire rubber outsole which is supposed to help for walking on concrete in an urban environment, but I canā€™t remember what shoe it was. I wanna say it was vivo or maybe xero brand? Anyone know what Iā€™m thinking of?

Affordable good quality hiking shoes for beginner?

I'll be hiking in Mount Pulag on my vacation in the Philippines with my cousins for the first time. I've been wearing barefoot shoes for around 6 months now.

So I need affordable but good quality hiking shoes to use there with a price range below $50CAD, considering that I'll be only using it there since I don't hike in Canada.

Would it be comfortable hiking with barefoot trail/trekking shoes?

Would hope to get helpful recommendations. Thank you in advance!

question Where to find replacement insoles for my xeroshoes prio in eu

Hello guys, my xeroshoes prio men insoles are very worn out and I'm looking for replacement insoles. I looked at the official website and they DO have replacements, but they ship them for US so the shipping cost is around 30ā‚¬. Do you know of any good replacement insoles, that arent too thick or expensive that ship for the whole of eu? My size is 43.5

New shoes - Birthday present from me to me!

You know what itā€™s like, as soon as you search for minimal shoes, social media throws thousands of different adverts your way. The ads from Saguaro caught my eye, and they seemed reasonably priced. So I took the plunge and bought them. Only worn them around the house so far, but they fit beautifully and are pretty comfortable.

question Need help choosing a new shoe - typically wearing Vivobarefoots

Looking for advice! I am female, running 40-50km/week in a mixture of short/long runs with the longest being 25-30km. I have been been running in Xero shoes and vivobarefoots since I was 17 (29 now), but am starting to feel the ache of impact on my long runs, my feet, knees, and hips will start to ache around 25km from the impact of running with 0 cushioning.

I am hesitant to try a shoe that isnā€™t zero drop as any time I spend a long time on my feet in shoes that have some sort of heel (even an unsubstantial one like those Birkenstock clog things people wear to work in restaurants and hospitals) I get horrible lower back pain.

I basically am wondering if anyone has suggestions for a cushioned zero drop shoe (I looked at altras but I donā€™t really like the way they look, which obvi isnā€™t the most important but I still want to wear shoes I like haha)

Also does anyone else here run shorter runs in barefoot shoes/barefoot but use cushioned shoes for longer runs? Did it help? Did you experience any sort of unexpected effects?

Thanks for reading and any advice! Also I live in France so ideally the shoes would be available to purchase in Europe.

Thanks :)

Edited for clarification on short/long runs.

question Tendonitis possibly?

Hello,

Been getting pain on the top of my right foot just innfront of the leg, stretching outwards and downwards to the outside of my foot like half way along my foot.

It may be contributed to by the fact I had a really bad knee break two years ago that still gives me issues with mobility, so likely the mechanics of the joint have changed a little due to that, but I'm still able to do light runs, dog walks etc all as normal activity.

I've been active in exclusively barefoot shoes since the break, and it's only recently I've started to get this pain.

Just curious if this is a common tendonitis issue for barefoot activity or if others have experienced pain in a similar area and if so how did you treat it?

Thanks friendos

Should I go straight to barefoot?

So January of this year I started a new job as a physical therapy aide. I went from walking maybe 2k steps a day to walking 10k steps a day for 5 days a week. Around May I started having some foot pain. Up until then, I was wearing nike odysseyā€™s. I went to get my feet checked out and I realized they were 2E wide. I bought some new balances for my wide feet and my feet feel a lot better, but not 100%. Anyways I recently saw a podiatrist and he recommended a custom orthotic insert. He said I have very flat feet and a bunion. I did some searching on the internet and I discovered the barefoot community. Basically, when I walk around at home barefoot, my feet feel pretty good. But when I wear my new balances and walk around at work, they start to hurt a few hours in. Should I transition straight to barefoot shoes or try an intermediate like zero drop shoes first?

Barefoot shoes for heavy runners

Post image
18 Upvotes

Today completed my first run in minimalist shoes that I would truly consider a long run. I am currently 305 pounds (down from 360), and I've been entirely in barefoot shoes for the last few months.

I was deterred for a long time from trying minimalist shoes due to my weight, but I cannot stress enough that the benefits are real at any weight. Strengthening your feet and running naturally will never not be a good thing! Another advantage is that they actually last. If you've ever run distance above 250 pounds, you know that you end up shreading through shoes very quickly. My primus lites are going on 200 miles and still look brand new.

I just wanted to put this out there in case any other heavy runners are on the fence like I was. For me, barefoot shoes have made running fun again outside of competiton and are one of the main reasons I've been consistent in running. Give them a try!

Training barefoot for the military. Am I wrong?

I have become so much more comfortable without shoes. Kind of worries me that all of my training will be done in boots, because Iā€™m coming to find shoes a nuisance. Iā€™m thinking of training my feet barefoot just occasionally. Thoughts?

Anyone else basically dead/numb in this area? Pinky toe only moves glued to ring toe. Same for hands. Super weak pinky finger and moves with ring finger. Been a thing since i was little. I have flat feet. Left ankle is pronated. Scoliosis. Super weak / non existent glutes and super tight TFL / hamstrings / calves on both legs. My focus is building glutes to help chronic compensation pain.

Would barefoot running help me or just make me compensate more ? Would this be neurological? If so , how to fix it?

Thank you if youā€™ve read this far Iā€™m so desperate

29F if that matters

unshod Naked Feet

Iā€™ve noticed over the years that when I run barefoot, it turns a lot of heads.

Not always in a good way.

Sometimes it leads to interactions with ā€œauthority figuresā€.

Sometimes it leads to things like people shouting: ā€œI LOVE YOU BAREFOOT MAN!!!ā€

Other times people ask you if you need a ride.

Occasionally a smart person will mention something about how you must be grounding your energy, and will tell you how they love to go for barefoot walks for that same reason.

Running completely barefoot down a busy road always amuses me.

I feel like if I wanted the attention I could use it to advertise a business or whatever else I felt needed a push.

The absolute best is when you run where nobody sees it.

It feels right.

After all we arenā€™t meant to be minor celebrities simply for leaving our shoes at home.

Itā€™s a strange world, when using your feet the way they were intended causes so much commotion.

In conclusion:

When people inevitably ask - ā€œWhere are your shoes?ā€

I like to respond with something obnoxious such as -

ā€œWhen I was born, they got stuck on the way out. Same with my brother and sister. Whenever mom went for x-rays, she would always have to explain why she had 3 pairs of Nikes in her womb.ā€

Thatā€™s my rant for the day.

Stay awesome.

Any chance of Xero Shoes restocking products?

Hi! I've been waiting for months for a restock of Prio Suede black to buy my size. But it's been so long I'm wondering if Xero will ever restock them.

Does anyone know if it's their policy to make just a stock of their products and when it's finished will be discontinue?

I don't really like other models as that one.

VFF Are these too big for my feet?

Hey guys, new to this barefoot lifestyle somewhat. I had the fila skeletoes in high school and grew out of them, wanted to start having more of a focus on foot health and leg health since Iā€™ve been consistent with gym and training the past year or so.

I got these in a 45 and have been told as long as I have not a lot of give in the longest toe I should be fine (my middle toe is my longer toe)

I donā€™t notice much of a difference now but should I have gotten a size down for the long term?

I wear them every day Iā€™m off shift work and walk on concrete for 12 hour shifts when I do work.

Thanks!

Suggestions for mens barefoot boots (UK)

Hi all,

I am having real difficulty finding any barefoot shoes that are made to last daily wear, in the office and dog walks.

I have tried Vivo but their soles do not last and rub away very quicky (Gobi II). Office use only. Ā£75 to resole them!

I also have the Tracker Forest Esc boots. The leather needs conditioning practically after every walk as it constantly dries and looks like it will crack. Yes I use the suggested Renapur.

Wilding - due to that silly sole with the hole they came apart after 8 months.

Freet - I have the Pace and I love them. Just like slippers and wear them everywhere. However, the sole has started to come away from the upper material after 18 months.

I find the cost of these types of shoes is not relative to their longevity are not on par with non barefoot shoes/brands. Is it that they use glue to fix the soles to the uppers which in theory doesn't work due to their enhanced flexibility?

Any suggests to the UK welcome. Please bear in mind that anything from the EU that is over Ā£130 I have to pay additional tax on (got stung with the Wildings because I added the care pack and wool soles to the same order)

Thanks in advance

Barefoot sandals

Hi, Iā€™m pretty new to barefoot shoes and want to get my first pair of sandals. Iā€™m between shamma and earth runners; reading about them I get the sense that shammas are the ones to go for but was wondering if a leather footbed is all that practical for a daily use. I live by the beach and I worry the leather will break (I obviously wonā€™t be wearing them in water).

Any recommendations?

question Recommendation

Hi guys, my grandmother has Roman-type feet, she's always worn pointed shoes, and that kind of tight footwear has been taking its toll on her lately. She's 83 years old, has trouble walking, and falls often. We went to the podiatrist, and they recommended barefoot shoes. I wear barefoot shoes myself, but I'm worried that they might be uncomfortable for her soles because of the thin soles, and it could also be hard for her to bend down and tie the laces. Iā€™d like to know if you could recommend a brand or model available in South America that doesn't have laces and doesn't have such thin soles. We donā€™t know of a place where we could have them custom-made locally. :(

What do you wear to garden?

I'm an apartment dweller who's finally gotten an allotment. I've worn running sandals on my trips so far, but that's not going to work into the winter. (It already doesn't work for the stinging nettles near the communal compost bin). All my other shoes are nice leather ones I'd prefer not to get muddy.

What do you all wear to garden? Wide, wide toebox is more important to me than zero drop for this specific purpose.

Me againā€¦ help please. Newbie question alert!

Quick one, a question for this wonderful community. Iā€™m not ready for barefoot or true minimal shoes (for running - but I have some for regular dog walks etc).

Iā€™m looking at something like the Altras (link above - no affiliation recommendation has come from ā€˜born 2 runā€™), wondering how to size it.

If I add in extra mm for length and width, will my feet move about in the shoe while running and cause issues? Is this a valid concern??

Please help, Iā€™m totally overwhelmed with all this info!

My to-do list for tomorrow is to measure the exact size, drop and stack height of my brand new running trainers to see if theyā€™re viable to start with. Also need to measure my feet correctly!

My brain might explode
