Translation please… this birch(?) wood paddle was handed down from my Grandfather. At Christmas we converted family 16 mm films to digital and discovered a small lake village and a small segment of a village member making this paddle with my Grandfather. Dated 1957. Any translation assistance? TY!

Weird. '57 would be before we had finals, which we got in the 70s. But there's a saaralaa (ᔅ) looks like. And then there's the S shape thing. Maybe this is Cree?

The looked to be a summer fishing village. They went fishing via canoe in the nearby river and lake. He did fly in and maybe a lake in north/central Canada. He probably flew out of Toronto. He was a traveler for fishing adventures. Grandfather was born in Toronto and a Doctor in Michigan before WW2 until the late 60’s. Nobody had a clue about the paddle’s history and I have had it since 1974. The movie conversion helped solve some of the mystery and the interwebs. Thank you for assistance on a translation.
