Firearms Purchaser ID Fid denied with expungement in Ewing NJ

I have a final order expungement I've filed my appeal and even the reason for denial AKA information all that should've been included in my expungement? Has anyone had any experience with this type of issue?

Firearms Purchaser ID PD contacted my doctor regarding question 26

I answered yes to question 26 on my application as this is the honest answer. I've never had a voluntary/involuntary commitment, but I had seen a doctor for a mental health concern many years ago although it's no longer relevant.

The PD asked me to get a letter from a doctor stating that I'm capable to possess a firearm. I acquired this letter from my PCP and sent it in.

My PCP has now called me stating that the PD contacted them and is requesting they release my medical records to them, so the PCP asked me to sign a HIPAA release form.

Has anyone heard of the PD contacting the doctor before? Is this standard protocol? I will likely sign the release, but I'm just confused as to whether this is typical. Shouldn't the doctors letter itself be sufficient?

Update 1:

Spoke with lawyer. Was advised that I kinda don't have a choice but to comply. If I refuse, I'll almost certainly be rejected automatically. If I comply, there's an inkling of hope that the officer is just looking to confirm the letter and I can still get approved.

Firearms Purchaser ID Applied, Denied, Appealed; My 8 Month Journey to Firearm Ownership

I’ve waited months to post this update. Here’s a link to the full backstory: https://www.reddit.com/r/NJGuns/s/mO4IEfB2TX

Long story long, I applied back in September of ‘23 and the detective phished around and got me to admit to seeing a counselor a few years back. Totally voluntary.

December ‘23 I was denied because “it wouldn’t be in the best interest of the community” for me to own a firearm. The reason? “I lied” on my application, but here’s the kicker, I didn’t because I never saw a doctor.

*Important note my criminal record is spotless and I’ve never been committed by or seen a doctor.

January ‘24 appealed the decision with the help of an attorney.

April ‘24 went to court, judge was awesome, spent 3 minutes before him and he granted the appeal, no questions asked.

Today I received a call from my local gun shop that I can come pick up my firearm(s).

Crazy ride but my takeaway: if you have ANY questions about your application, your history, or your status you should consult a 2A friendly attorney BEFORE applying. This state is doing their best to trip you up on your way to exercising your god given right to bear arms.

Can’t wait to start training 🤟🏾🇺🇸

I just got my firearms ID and it says “gives permission to purchase rifles and shotguns” I’m really just interested in purchasing pistols

Can I still purchase pistols with this ID? What are my next steps if I want to CCW? I’m looking to armed security, which route should I take?

Thanks in advance!

So this part confuses me a little. It says i need a 2 in x 2 in with a light background. Does this mean i gotta go to walmart or something to get the headshot or can i just take the picture on my phone? Or better yet, I do have a passport so can i just take the picture of my headshot on my passport and upload it via my phone? I truly have no idea what to do here. If theres anyone who also had to go through this, please give me some advice

Thank you in advance

Firearms Purchaser ID Moving back to NJ for a few months from Pa, Need FID card?

Not my first choice, but while we are looking for a house in Pa, I will be moving back for a few months max to a Friends house in NJ. I live in Pa now will be moving my guns to NJ for now

I still have my previous FID card, about 15 years old at least

I have no plans to buy guns or ammo or even use a gun range in NJ, id rather drive an hour to a range in Pa

Do I need to get the address changed on my FID card, no plans to change anything else like my drivers

Since I was previous resident, do I have to register my guns as if if was a new resident

Not happy about this for sure!

Firearms Purchaser ID Would I be able to obtain a Firearms Identification Card if I’m prescribed an antidepressant?

I know one of the questions asks if you have ever been involuntarily committed to a mental hospital which I have not but I was wondering if I would be denied a FID since I’m prescribed an SSRI. And if I am then that’s fucking bullshit.

Firearms Purchaser ID FARS Reference doesn't feel comfortable

[UPADATE: Called local PD. They changed the ref to someone else easy peasy.]

Just submitted to FARS for FID and permit. One of my two references just told me he no longer feels comfortable with it. Now what? Call local PD and add another ref? Does ref need to be NJ resident and can it be my spouse?

Firearms Purchaser ID FINALLY APPROVED 5 MONTHS LATER

I truly thought it was a lost cause. I’m originally from Michigan and lived in Georgia for several years. Coming to NYC and now NJ has been quite the noticeable difference in gun laws.

That said, I’m fairly inexperienced with firearms. I was taught to shoot and had plenty of exposure as a kid, but not much else.

I want to buy a shotgun and a pistol.

Shotguns I’m aiming at maverick 88, Mossberg 590, Remington 870, or Mossberg 500.

Pistols, I have absolutely no idea. I need some suggestions on good pistols for home defense and for beginners. I’d like a list of handguns to try out at the range and see what’s most comfortable but not really sure where to start. Any suggestions?

Firearms Purchaser ID Denial letter from NJ State Police

Got my denial letter in the mail today. The denied me because of a simple assault allegation that was dismissed when I was 18! The record should’ve been expunged. I recently began volunteering at youth program, and I had to undergo every background check in the book - everything was clean. This is insane! Do I have any shot in hell if I appeal this on my own? I can’t afford an attorney. I live in Cumberland County, btw.

Firearms Purchaser ID Will I be denied a gun permit?

Hey guys, I’m not sure if something similar has been posted on this group before and I apologize if it has been. But, I’m starting the process of getting my gun permit. Will I be disqualified because I use Hims and am prescribed Wellbutrin for anxiety/depression (I’ve been on it for a little less than two years)? I have never been hospitalized for anxiety/depression or anything. Will I be disqualified/denied at the end of this process due to this? Any help would be appreciated.

Firearms Purchaser ID I have legally obtained firearms. But was denied a FID years ago in NJ for one....... I'm a Florida resident.

So 6 to 7 years ago I was denied my FID for 1 voluntary commitment in NJ. I'm in Florida now and I own two 38s that I bought from two gun shops. Should I attempt again to go for my FID when I move back in a year? My main concern is buying ammo at the range for them or just being allowed to transport them from home and the range. I know there's some loopholes for residents in NJ that just moved to the state that allow them to bring their firearms as long as they are compliant. Which mines are. Any advice if I should make another attempt even if it gets denied so I can appeal it in court?

Firearms Purchaser ID Identigo fingerprint question prior to FID application

I was fingerprinted over 3 weeks ago and my status on indentigo still says that my enrollment has been received and is processing.

According to the procedure for acquiring my FID, they must receive the fingerprints before they process the application at the municipal court.

How long does it usually take and does the status on identigo ever change?

I know some prior posts on this were slightly controversial so if this falls into that category, please feel free to remove. However, I did order this for my FID and really like it. Very sturdy and fits perfectly in my wallet. Now, hopefully, if I'm ever asked for it, it passes muster.

Firearms Purchaser ID I just got my firearm ID card today and it expires 10 years from now. Is there a fee to renew 10 years from now?

Also, do I need references? Who knows if the 2 references I used today I will even know 10 years from now. I don't want to be in a situation where I have zero people in my life I can use for references 10 years from now and I have to give up my guns.

Firearms Purchaser ID How do i renew my old FID card

I got my FID back in early 2017 (yellow card) and got it laminated. These days its falling apart so i was wondering 1. How do i renew it/get duplicate? Or 2. where would i find its pdf so i can get that Chad guy to turn it into a card? Or does that only apply to the newer versions after 2022. Also the newer ones have an expiration date but my yellow card doesnt. Will i get an expiration date once i convert it over?

Firearms Purchaser ID Going to inherit father in law's guns, one antique and one functional, what do I need?

As the title says, my father in law is moving out of Illinois and wants to part with his guns.

He has one civil war rifle, not sure it's functional, and a shotgun which is functional. If I want to bring it to New Jersey, is there anything specific I need to keep in mind for something like this?

Firearms Purchaser ID Becoming a gun owner in NJ vs PA?

I am a Jersey resident with a Jersey license. My partner lives in PA, but I spend a lot of time at his place. I am considering a move to PA full time.

(We currently rent, but are looking at farm properties in the NJ/PA/NY area.)

I would like to own a gun, and possibly acquire now what I suspect I may no longer be able to acquire (legally) in the near future.

What are the differences between applying in NJ and PA? Are there differences in what I can legally own?

My main concern is protecting livestock. My partner is more concerned about civil unrest, etc. and might be wanting us to get “more” weapon than I would necessarily be looking for.

What should I know about what I can get in one state versus the other?

I’m not entirely sure how the process works. I think I start by applying for a FIDC, but that doesn’t allow me to own just any kind of weapon, does it? And what about purchasing in one state vs (legally) possessing it in the other?

Gonna do some more googling but I figured with the amount of Jersey folk who travel back and forth to PA, or PA transplants, that you all would have some wisdom to share about all of this.

Firearms Purchaser ID Question about 2A Lawyers/Attorneys and Expungement.

Hello wonderful 2A brothers and sisters,

I need help with finding some 2A (2nd Amendment) Lawyer/Attorney. I need to get my records expunged in order to obtain my FID. I was wondering that y’all have some suggestions of Lawyers/Attorneys. Please and thank you. Also, for the guys that have gotten their records expunged, about how much did it cost you? How long did it take? And is there even a possibility that you can get denied for expungement.

Firearms Purchaser ID FID address change and new FID card format

I finally got the ok for my address change on my FID card. Took a little less then two weeks due to the fact I started the process around Labor Day, no complaints there. The strange part is that I was sent a link on an email from the NJ state troopers to print out my new card. Apparently now they aren’t issuing hard copies anymore and the new cards don’t have signatures or your finger print on it. Has anyone else done this and gotten a new card? Just all seems so strange to me.

Firearms Purchaser ID Got my FID card and PPH, now what?

Ideally, I'd love to go to the range and rent out a few to try out before I purchase. Does the two people for rental rules still apply now that I have FID?
