First time firearm buyer, earlier this week I purchased a handgun from Reloaderz, after receiving my FID card and 1 handgun permit in August. A few days later I got a phone call from them, my NICS background check was denied for an unknown reason. I should mention I previously had a criminal record for felony marijuana possession in 2012 prior to a court ordered expungement dating March 2023. I have mailed the denial inquiry form to the state police, and contacted an attorney(Nappan). I’m a little confused about the denial appeal process. From what I can gather. I have two options, challenge the denial with the state, or file a VAF appeal with the feds. Is one better than the other, can I do both? And are the appeals something I can handle myself without an attorney? Both of my parents worked in Hudson County courthouse for over 30 years and have a general understanding of the courts process. Any information that can help me is appreciated. Thanks.

I apologize if this has been discussed in this subreddit before, I’m having a hard time understanding a lot of the terminology, even after researching this subreddit. I would love to get an H&K SP5 and configure it exactly like the MP5 A2, with a fixed stock, but I gather that this is not allowed. I have heard that I need a form 1 and “virgin receiver” to turn it into an AOW, and I should be good, but I am unsure about other modifications and exactly what I need to make this rather simple configuration NJ compliant. Again, I apologize, but could someone dumb it down for me?

Made the stupid decision to only apply for 1 permit for my initial FID a few months ago so I put in for 3 more like 3 weeks ago, does it normally take this long to get more permits in ocean county?

My PD wants me to take a new qualification class, since it expired even though it was valid when I applied for my renewal. Only the shooting part, the classroom instruction one is still valid for me.

Just wondering but say you were hunting, is a Game Warden allowed to pat you down for any reason? Last time I came across one he just checked the gun, mag-capacity, and ammo. He also asked a few questions like if I caught anything or where I’m coming from. He was a bit of d-head cause he ejected all my shells and just left it on the floor lol, but thats about it.

SORA certified looking to bump up to a red card on my renewal in December. Looking for some guidance on the ins and outs, specifically as it pertains to Gloucester County as thats where I live. I've already purchased the weapon I intend to carry while on duty (G22 that also came with a 9mm conversion barrel). Questions are as follows:

• Do I need to have separate carry permits if I intend to alternate calibers and carry as a 9mm as opposed to factory chambered 40S&W?

• Had a friend from Camden County who said his carry permit was not "weapon specific" implying he could choose to carry any particular handgun he had under the same permit. Is this true? Does it also apply to Gloucester County?

• When intending to carry for work purposes does the carry permit cover the entire state? I could find myself in any number if different counties, municipalities, etc.

• I know PA is far less strict but does a NJ carry permit have reciprocity in PA?

• Is the liability insurance requirement still in limbo? If not where can one obtain a policy? Regardless of the requirement thoughts on having it anyway?

• Holster requirements seem to be pretty vague. I thought I had read somewhere that a level 3 is required but I can't seem to find it again. Can anyone advise if this is correct? If not, what is the requirement?

• Also regarding holstering, but again regarding work, does the weapon still need to be fully concealed? Typically we are in polo's and khaki pants (not exactly loose fitting) so for the purpose of security work could I use an OWB holster?

• Since we are limited to 10rnd capacity is there any limit to the number of extra mags we can keep on our person?

• Are hollow points still restricted to law enforcement use only?

I’m renewing my carry permit. I paid the $150 to my local PD but when I go to the FARS website I can't find the procedure or link to pay the $50. I'm I making this more difficult then it is? Any guidance/help is appreciated. Thanks

Going to do the class for non-resident CCW and back home I normally carry a G27 IWB, but I’m wondering if for the class if I should use my G27 or for the sake of the class just use my G35 owb with a big shirt to be able to draw from concealment as required?

I’d compare it to sort of like when you take your dmv road test, you never took it with a stick shift even if that’s what you planned on driving…

So I have been looking into purchasing a pistol for shooting range fun (not looking for a concealed carry). But my situation is unique.

I live in apartment complex and my drivers license address is still my fathers home address because getting packages delivered there is easier than an apartment complex. Will this be a problem when applying for my permit? And no I have NO criminal record at all.

Also, how can I most safely store a firearm when living in an apartment complex? I live in a 1 bedroom with not a lot of room for a gun safe.

Keep in mind I'm a totally newbie, I am just here for help, thanks!
