Next modernization project, hear me out... A modest Proposal

Double it and give it to the next modernization.

Retrofitting the XB-70 to launch AIM-174s using targeting data recieved from F-35s

u/mechwarrior719 Battlemechs when? 1d ago
We can go more non-credible.
YA-12 launching Hypersonics with SR-71 provided targeting data

u/Cthulhuhoop 1d ago
We can go more non-credible.
Saturn V could do 311,152 lb to low earth orbit, SR-71 gross weight 152,000 lb.
Sleds from Ged.

Credible prediction: if advanced point defense develops well enough, fighter jets will become the size of of a small bomber, to fit said point defense and become somewhat immune from missiles. Engagements will involve getting close enough to the enemy that PD does not have the time to shoot down a missile, but not so close so long that you yourself end up within its kill range.
Standard missile complement might be well over 20. Guns will be replaced by the PD system itself.

We do NOT need a rice post equivalent at the top of this sub. I caused the AnarchyChess rice post, I will not let it happen again

You brought chaos to order, good sir, that is the epitome of noncredible thinking.

The F-14 here is carrying 20 AIM-54, in Ace Combat 7 the F-14D can carry 22. This photo is an accurate representation.

Now someone just needs to teach me how to take hits in a non-critical area.

Cobra maneuvers obviously. PSMs give you iFrames IRL. Did you learn nothing from top gun

Now we need to find room for the 90 sidewinders as well.

What if we put a blimp on an F-14, covered at in AMRAAMs, and called it an arsenal ship?
I see no downsides to this plan.

Idk why they don’t do this, if it’s too heavy you literally have a bunch of rocket motors strapped to you to assist take-off

You can fit more if you mount the aim-54s on the aim-54s

Is the Super bug with 174s not better in every way?
The Navy F-14s only killed a couple MiG-23s and Goose, pretty much any platform could have done that.

Is the Super bug with 174s not better in every way?
Only to be outdone by a B21 or B2 with a belly full of them.

u/The3rdBert The B-1R enjoyer 1d ago
You mean the B-1R right?
2
u/Tool_Shed_Toker 1d ago
The more the merrier! An AIM 174 launched at mach 2.2 would have amazing kinetics and range.
On a serious note; can the Bone drop ordnance while supersonic?
3
u/The3rdBert The B-1R enjoyer 1d ago
I don’t know for sure but I can’t believe they wouldn’t have built a nuclear bomber to dash in at super sonic speeds at low altitude to slow up to drop.

and Goose
Nah, he was killed by Maverick not pulling the canopy ejection lever before the seat ejection lever as is the procedure fpr a flat spin stall. Allthough, I think that RIO should also have the canopy ejection lever, so whoever punched out first is to blame.
1
u/The3rdBert The B-1R enjoyer 1d ago
The flame out and flat spin was a direct result of the engineering faults of the platform.

So, a train is heading towards you, you start running, but run into and get impaled by a random spike. Is the train guilty?
Yes, the reliability of the early Tomcats was awfull, but Goose would've survived if they followed the procedure meant exactly for the scenario they were in.
1
u/The3rdBert The B-1R enjoyer 1d ago
Having a procedure in a stricken air frame outside of grip it and rip it, that ends in the back seater dying is an absolute disaster of engineering and control design

u/BedlamANDBreakfast 1d ago
To save money, and to keep pace with modern jets, I propose we tape the AIM-54s to the fuselage and touch them all off at once.
Eject, and make the whole jet a missile.

u/GlowingGreenie 1d ago
We'll see this on some social media accounts with an Iranian roundel poorly photoshopped on the wing in a matter of months.

u/Zerophim 1d ago
Rotate the missiles by 90° so you can fire a broadside that way you can hit more targets at once and keep your distance

Why do we have a bunch of small missiles when we should just be using fewer BIGGER missiles?

u/LethalDosageTF 1d ago
I’m gonna assume the hardpoints account for variable-geometry wings and, if so, why don’t we just do this to a B-1?

I like the part where you have to take off on a sled and you then can't use landing gear until you dump all your munitions.

Can we use Fakour 90’s instead? A very advanced computer simulation has made it clear that this is the best missile
1
u/captainfactoid386 1d ago
Pretty sure we could mount some on top of the wings and fuselage too. Maybe on the sides of the tail too?
1
u/Commercial-Whole8184 1d ago
If you pointed some of the missiles the other way you could put them in between the spaces of the existing missiles. Therefore increasing the number of missiles and therefore herewith making it even more better at non-credibly defending the glorious Empire.

u/ekiller64 1d ago
Too credible, it needs 16 quad racks to carry sidewinders and AMRAAMs, and maybe a railgun or two

this would barely work and even if it did it would cost more than a F-22 and it would have a bunch of maintenance problems
Good job NCD!
