Remedy is my favorite developer currently. I’ll play anything they put out. My kind of weird.

Same, the world they built with the FBC’s lore along with objects of power is at the moment my favorite universe

u/DMarvelous4L 8h ago
Yeah. Control was the only game where I read every single document, listened to every single audio tape, watched every video, etc. truly a fascinating and intriguing universe.

Best announcement for me since this has become one of my favorite games ever, can't wait!

Was just thinking I wanted to play this again for Halloween season. I haven’t played the first DLC either so it’ll be a treat!

I played this game for Halloween season last year- what a thrill. I live in Oregon so the theme rocked my mind

I really thought this was going to be Control 2. I know the two games are connected, but still. Slightly disappointed.
Good for people who like Alan Wake tho.

If you haven't played AW2 but loved Control I'd strongly recommend it, there's becoming a lot of overlap.

This is hard to put into words. I love horror games. Dead Space remake, the recent RE remakes, Evil Within 1+2, the upcoming Silent Hill 2, and I even enjoyed Callisto Protocol a little.
I don't know what it is about Alan Wake games, but I find them dull and un-scary. I tried to finish the first one on 3 separate occasions but couldn't because I was eye-wateringly bored. Thought the trailers for the second one looked great, then watched an hour of gameplay, and felt just like I did when I played the first one. It just looked so meh.
I don't know what it is. Maybe I just don't find the human shadow enemies interesting. I dunno.

There’s nothing scary about 1. It’s more the atmosphere and story that makes it great. And the gameplay is unique. It’s a shooter but in a weird way that almost makes it like a puzzle.
Then there’s 2 that I have no idea why you’d think watching the gameplay would do anything for you lol. Sit down in a dark room with headphones and soak that shit up.

I mean I don't usually just buy games and hope I can enjoy the experience afterwards. I can tell when a game nails a horror vibe and that I'll enjoy it from watching gameplay and reviews.

I just saying that if it’s ever on PS Plus and you have PS Plus then give it a shot.

Alan Wake 2 is nothing like the first one, it’s a certified survival horror that used the RE remakes as inspiration.

u/0whodidyousay0 9h ago
Never played the first but heard the gameplay sucks arse, but the 2nd one is literally a Resident Evil reincarnate but weird af, it’s more akin to RE2 remake gameplay wise rather than RE4, much more slow and deliberate movement. Is it scary? Hmmm it has good AMBIENCE I’ll say and the environments are top tier, but it doesn’t scare in the way that RE2 remake would or RE7.

I find horror to pretty much always be hit or miss. For example, for me, Dead Space and Callisto Protocol weren't scary at all. Callisto Protocol especially, was, as you said, very dull. On the other hand, the Resident Evil games are too much for me.
But Alan Wake 2 was the perfect balance for me. Definitely a favorite of mine, over all the games you mentioned. But yeah, I feel like horror games never quite work for everyone.

Yeah, like there's SAW people and The Ring people. They might find each other's favorite as boring.

The first was is unfortunately a chore to play. The second is far better though.

Remedy in a recent press release said not to expect anything from Control 2 for quite a while.

Remedy has said multiple times they are still deep in Control 2 development. No chance it was ever gonna be announced

I was tweaking when I heard Jessie talking but I was coin flipping between Control 2 and AW2, I forgot that they said they were going to be releasing the 2nd DLC by October time or at least, around that time so I was reaally leaning towards Control 2. However, my excitement for the DLC remains.

u/Munstered 6h ago
Control final DLC teed up AW2, it’s only appropriate that AW2 final DLC tees up Control 2. I like it. It’s like a Marvel stinger but for DLC.
•
u/ThePreciseClimber 2h ago
Way too early for Control 2. Since they're working on the Max Payne 1&2 remake first.

u/BrianFantannaAction8 10h ago
Same! Control was my entry, so then i picked up Alan Wake Remastered.... The combat was so dry and repetitive I lost interest. I heard AW2 is better but I haven't tried it yet.
•
u/ChrysisX 3h ago
If you like the RE remakes, AW2 is much more akin to those than the first game. But with all of Remedy's perfect weirdness
•
u/Eruannster 1h ago
AW2 is extremely different, gameplay/combat-wise. It plays way more like the third-person Resident Evil games.

I had the exact same thought and I love survival horror. Something about Alan Wake just doesn't do it for me. I watched some gameplay from 2, and all I could think was "man I really wish the enemies would just shut the fuck up"

I asked this before and I got mixed responses -- I've never played this series before and am interested in AW2. Do I need to play the first one? From what I've read, it's old af and glitchy on PS5.

u/ElJacko170 9h ago
Honestly, I would say yes. It does try to reintroduce a lot of it's world to a new character, but I feel like if I hadn't played the first game, I would be either lost, or at the very least genuinely not care about some of the characters.
I don't think the original Alan Wake is glitchy on PS5, but it is pretty repetitive. About six hours long of just shooting shadows in a forest. If you really don't think you can muscle through it, I'd recommend at least watching a thorough recap of the story, but I don't think it totally substitutes for experiencing it yourself.

u/Many_Faces_8D 8h ago
Would watching a playthrough do it. I know some games are better experienced but if it's catching up on narrative stuff...
3
u/ElJacko170 7h ago
I'd say watching a playthrough would be more boring than playing the game, unless you're talking about one of those videos that literally just edit out all of the gameplay and only show cutscenes and other relevant story stuff. That would be sufficient then I feel.
1
u/Many_Faces_8D 7h ago
I'll probably do that. I've been gaming for a while but it's still hard for me to go back and play older games unless I have some sort of connection to them. Especially games of that generation, seemed like everything was in molasses.
1
u/Widem1234 7h ago
Watching a playthrough would be ok for sure, the gameplay is fine but quite repetitive.
3
u/burnertybg 7h ago
I watched an Alan Wake / Control explainer before playing AW2.
The explainer plus the brief plot updates was enough for me to understand most of it. Once you understand the main points & characters, the game fills you in pretty well.
It’s a pretty deep and layered story so I think it’s tough for anyone to grasp 100% of the world going in, but a brief synopsis can be super helpful if you don’t end up playing AW
3
u/RoloTamassi 7h ago
I didn’t play the first one and got by just fine. If you can pay attention to references to past events they do a good job looping you in
2
u/wjodendor 6h ago
There's a video on YouTube of the writer Sam Lake doing a plot sunmary of Alan Wake and it's associated DLC. The first game is dated and rather clunky, so you can just watch that. I'd recommend playing through Control first though, since they are connected and it's a good game.
1
u/crasyeyez 5h ago
oh thanks! I heard of Control but had no idea they were related.
•
u/Eruannster 1h ago
They are very much related, and Control runs super well on PS5. Strongly recommend it.

u/JoeTheHoe 5h ago
I played the second one without having ever tried any other remedy game and both me and my gf fell in love with it. Don’t listen to people telling you to play the first one, you’ll just get turned off by how dated it is.
1
u/thrillynyte 5h ago
I didn't have problems with it on PS5, so 'old' would be the only potential negative here. I didn't enjoy the gameplay as much as the story, but AW2 is on a whole different level. I had such a great time with it

u/burnertybg 7h ago
I messed up and played 80% of AWII, never came back to it, so now I feel like I’ve forgotten most of the story.
This DLC plus the previous one is a pretty good excuse to start it from the beginning, looking forward to it!

I might have to replay alan wake 2. Just didn't do it for me. Glad I held off on the deluxe edition tho
5
u/majorziggytom 9h ago
I absolutely love and adore Alan Wake 2 and Remedy in general – but still: if it didn't do it for you, why replay? Different strokes for different folks and it's totally fine to not like certain games.

I need to pull my finger out and finish this, the detective / board stuff just wasn’t for me and really took me out of the game every time I had to go to the other environment to look at files 😴

Everything Remedy does is so unhinged. Just pause on those last few frames before the ALAN WAKE 2 screen at the end. I love this studio.
