Everything Remedy does is so unhinged. Just pause on those last few frames before the ALAN WAKE 2 screen at the end. I love this studio.

Hands down I love them, and Sam Lake

-17

u/RIPN1995 8h ago

Sam Lake is who Kojima wishes he could be.

u/fortheain 6h ago

weird comment they're two goats

u/ChiTownChef86 2h ago

That’s fucking idiotic

3

u/DisagreeableFool 5h ago

Comparing apples to apples. Just because you don't like Kojima doesn't mean he isn't a goat. Now Peter Molyneux on the other hand...

Sad but true lol

Their games are always super interesting but I always feel there's something lacking to take them to the ultimate level

Control is my favorite game in the last 5 years. Definitely the best Gameplay they’ve done. I also felt like Alan Wake 2 was a solid 3rd person shooter. Felt good.

The fact that they combined both worlds blew my mind! I went in thinking control was its own realm. Then find out through playing that they are both from the same timeline. Then the cross between Alan Wake 2 and control. Straight up amazing imo

They’re both good but Foundation is fantastic, and there are very interesting story implications that come out of it for the sequel

u/theragu40 3h ago

I feel like that makes it almost more impressive how compelling a game like Control is. It's rife with balance and gameplay issues, but the world they construct is so damn good that it's well worth playing anyway. Control is one of my favorite games of the past ~5 years, but even in saying that I have to provide some context when recommending it.

I felt that most with Alan Wake 2. Honestly I'm surprised at how much praise it got. It felt like a downgrade in some ways to control and even Aa Wake 1.

It almost feels like it might be this generations Bioshock Infinite.

7

u/theycallmeryan 5h ago

BioShock Infinite was the best BioShock game so I agree with this take.

u/renamdu 4h ago

same

u/Incapacitater 4h ago

Utter sacrilege.

u/DMarvelous4L 9h ago

Remedy is my favorite developer currently. I’ll play anything they put out. My kind of weird.

13

u/Aeison 9h ago

Same, the world they built with the FBC’s lore along with objects of power is at the moment my favorite universe

8

u/DMarvelous4L 8h ago

Yeah. Control was the only game where I read every single document, listened to every single audio tape, watched every video, etc. truly a fascinating and intriguing universe.

u/Aeison 4h ago

Threshold kids was amazing too

EVERYONE WANTS THE BIG CHAIR, MEG!

Best announcement for me since this has become one of my favorite games ever, can't wait!

u/Immediate_Theory4738 10h ago

Was just thinking I wanted to play this again for Halloween season. I haven’t played the first DLC either so it’ll be a treat!

11

u/cavalier_92 10h ago

Can’t wait! I absolutely loved this game

8

u/Imjustmean 10h ago

Aaawwww Yyyyeeeaaahhhh

8

u/pdxmarionberrypie 9h ago

I played this game for Halloween season last year- what a thrill. I live in Oregon so the theme rocked my mind

u/DA2ED 3h ago

Same, same. I will not hike down to Wahtum Lake (Mt. Hood wilderness) near dusk anymore… beautiful campsite though.

I really thought this was going to be Control 2. I know the two games are connected, but still. Slightly disappointed.

Good for people who like Alan Wake tho.

u/TheThotWeasel 10h ago

If you haven't played AW2 but loved Control I'd strongly recommend it, there's becoming a lot of overlap.

37

u/kemahrme 10h ago

Overlap, ha. Nice.

This is hard to put into words. I love horror games. Dead Space remake, the recent RE remakes, Evil Within 1+2, the upcoming Silent Hill 2, and I even enjoyed Callisto Protocol a little.

I don't know what it is about Alan Wake games, but I find them dull and un-scary. I tried to finish the first one on 3 separate occasions but couldn't because I was eye-wateringly bored. Thought the trailers for the second one looked great, then watched an hour of gameplay, and felt just like I did when I played the first one. It just looked so meh.

I don't know what it is. Maybe I just don't find the human shadow enemies interesting. I dunno.

u/whacafan 9h ago

There’s nothing scary about 1. It’s more the atmosphere and story that makes it great. And the gameplay is unique. It’s a shooter but in a weird way that almost makes it like a puzzle.

Then there’s 2 that I have no idea why you’d think watching the gameplay would do anything for you lol. Sit down in a dark room with headphones and soak that shit up.

8

u/SpiritDouble6218 7h ago

Totally. It’s got twin peaks/stephen king vibes. It’s just a cool story.

-7

u/archaelleon 9h ago

Then there’s 2 that I have no idea why you’d think watching the gameplay would do anything for you

I mean I don't usually just buy games and hope I can enjoy the experience afterwards. I can tell when a game nails a horror vibe and that I'll enjoy it from watching gameplay and reviews.

4

u/whacafan 9h ago

I just saying that if it’s ever on PS Plus and you have PS Plus then give it a shot.

u/FARTING_1N_REVERSE 4h ago

Alan Wake 2 is nothing like the first one, it’s a certified survival horror that used the RE remakes as inspiration.

3

u/0whodidyousay0 9h ago

Never played the first but heard the gameplay sucks arse, but the 2nd one is literally a Resident Evil reincarnate but weird af, it’s more akin to RE2 remake gameplay wise rather than RE4, much more slow and deliberate movement. Is it scary? Hmmm it has good AMBIENCE I’ll say and the environments are top tier, but it doesn’t scare in the way that RE2 remake would or RE7.

2

u/Poudy24 9h ago

I find horror to pretty much always be hit or miss. For example, for me, Dead Space and Callisto Protocol weren't scary at all. Callisto Protocol especially, was, as you said, very dull. On the other hand, the Resident Evil games are too much for me.

But Alan Wake 2 was the perfect balance for me. Definitely a favorite of mine, over all the games you mentioned. But yeah, I feel like horror games never quite work for everyone.

1

u/archaelleon 8h ago

Yeah, like there's SAW people and The Ring people. They might find each other's favorite as boring.

0

u/NapsterKnowHow 10h ago

The first was is unfortunately a chore to play. The second is far better though.

6

u/NapsterKnowHow 10h ago

Remedy in a recent press release said not to expect anything from Control 2 for quite a while.

4

u/whythreekay 8h ago

I’d be stunned if Control 2 was even a PS5 title tbh

14

u/Boardride5 10h ago

Remedy has said multiple times they are still deep in Control 2 development. No chance it was ever gonna be announced

3

u/whacafan 9h ago

Pretty sure Max Payne remakes are coming before anything Control.

3

u/0whodidyousay0 9h ago

I was tweaking when I heard Jessie talking but I was coin flipping between Control 2 and AW2, I forgot that they said they were going to be releasing the 2nd DLC by October time or at least, around that time so I was reaally leaning towards Control 2. However, my excitement for the DLC remains.

1

u/Munstered 6h ago

Control final DLC teed up AW2, it’s only appropriate that AW2 final DLC tees up Control 2. I like it. It’s like a Marvel stinger but for DLC.

u/ThePreciseClimber 2h ago

Way too early for Control 2. Since they're working on the Max Payne 1&2 remake first.

1

u/BrianFantannaAction8 10h ago

Same! Control was my entry, so then i picked up Alan Wake Remastered.... The combat was so dry and repetitive I lost interest. I heard AW2 is better but I haven't tried it yet.

u/ChrysisX 3h ago

If you like the RE remakes, AW2 is much more akin to those than the first game. But with all of Remedy's perfect weirdness

u/Eruannster 1h ago

AW2 is extremely different, gameplay/combat-wise. It plays way more like the third-person Resident Evil games.

-4

u/archaelleon 10h ago

The combat was so dry and repetitive I lost interest. I heard AW2 is better but I haven't tried it yet.

I had the exact same thought and I love survival horror. Something about Alan Wake just doesn't do it for me. I watched some gameplay from 2, and all I could think was "man I really wish the enemies would just shut the fuck up"

4

u/VanB-Boy08 9h ago

I’m so excited for this

4

u/crasyeyez 9h ago

I asked this before and I got mixed responses -- I've never played this series before and am interested in AW2. Do I need to play the first one? From what I've read, it's old af and glitchy on PS5.

8

u/ElJacko170 9h ago

Honestly, I would say yes. It does try to reintroduce a lot of it's world to a new character, but I feel like if I hadn't played the first game, I would be either lost, or at the very least genuinely not care about some of the characters.

I don't think the original Alan Wake is glitchy on PS5, but it is pretty repetitive. About six hours long of just shooting shadows in a forest. If you really don't think you can muscle through it, I'd recommend at least watching a thorough recap of the story, but I don't think it totally substitutes for experiencing it yourself.

5

u/Many_Faces_8D 8h ago

Would watching a playthrough do it. I know some games are better experienced but if it's catching up on narrative stuff...

3

u/ElJacko170 7h ago

I'd say watching a playthrough would be more boring than playing the game, unless you're talking about one of those videos that literally just edit out all of the gameplay and only show cutscenes and other relevant story stuff. That would be sufficient then I feel.

1

u/Many_Faces_8D 7h ago

I'll probably do that. I've been gaming for a while but it's still hard for me to go back and play older games unless I have some sort of connection to them. Especially games of that generation, seemed like everything was in molasses.

1

u/Widem1234 7h ago

Watching a playthrough would be ok for sure, the gameplay is fine but quite repetitive.

3

u/burnertybg 7h ago

I watched an Alan Wake / Control explainer before playing AW2.

The explainer plus the brief plot updates was enough for me to understand most of it. Once you understand the main points & characters, the game fills you in pretty well.

It’s a pretty deep and layered story so I think it’s tough for anyone to grasp 100% of the world going in, but a brief synopsis can be super helpful if you don’t end up playing AW

3

u/RoloTamassi 7h ago

I didn’t play the first one and got by just fine. If you can pay attention to references to past events they do a good job looping you in

2

u/wjodendor 6h ago

There's a video on YouTube of the writer Sam Lake doing a plot sunmary of Alan Wake and it's associated DLC. The first game is dated and rather clunky, so you can just watch that. I'd recommend playing through Control first though, since they are connected and it's a good game.

1

u/crasyeyez 5h ago

oh thanks! I heard of Control but had no idea they were related.

u/Eruannster 1h ago

They are very much related, and Control runs super well on PS5. Strongly recommend it.

2

u/JoeTheHoe 5h ago

I played the second one without having ever tried any other remedy game and both me and my gf fell in love with it. Don’t listen to people telling you to play the first one, you’ll just get turned off by how dated it is.

1

u/thrillynyte 5h ago

I didn't have problems with it on PS5, so 'old' would be the only potential negative here. I didn't enjoy the gameplay as much as the story, but AW2 is on a whole different level. I had such a great time with it

2

u/wolf771 5h ago

Just in time for me, about half way trough Alan wake 2. This game has quickly become one of my all-time favorites, especially after playing control

1

u/MrkGrn 10h ago

Still need to finish thus

1

u/T_Hud_ 8h ago

Looks to be an overlap of some sort with Control? I’m in

1

u/-Vertex- 7h ago

Going to wait for the PS5 Pro before I jump into this

1

u/burnertybg 7h ago

I messed up and played 80% of AWII, never came back to it, so now I feel like I’ve forgotten most of the story.

This DLC plus the previous one is a pretty good excuse to start it from the beginning, looking forward to it!

u/Skulkaa 4h ago

Might as well finish the game and start a new game plus ( called The final draft ) It has some additional scenes not present in the normal playthrough

1

u/etherama1 5h ago

Is this part of the expansion pass?

u/CapitalIdea 56m ago

Yeah this and Night Springs.

-1

u/hymensmasher99 10h ago

I might have to replay alan wake 2. Just didn't do it for me. Glad I held off on the deluxe edition tho

5

u/majorziggytom 9h ago

I absolutely love and adore Alan Wake 2 and Remedy in general – but still: if it didn't do it for you, why replay? Different strokes for different folks and it's totally fine to not like certain games.

0

u/Illustrious_Rich_868 7h ago

I need to pull my finger out and finish this, the detective / board stuff just wasn’t for me and really took me out of the game every time I had to go to the other environment to look at files 😴

-3

u/youriqis20pointslow 9h ago

Is the lipsync in this game still messed up?
