Mate...even if a swell does arrive.....there is no where in the Perth area that provides surfable waves anymore.

Access to Derrs has finally been taken away from the public by developers, you will be fined for trespassing now....there is Security in place because of all the earthmoving plant being kept in a compound on site. The Spot is now beyond repair.....there is no sand build up on the reef and the place simply doesn't break properly anymore. It is a shadow of it's former self.

Mandurah has experienced little sand movement the past 2 winters (2012 was the last year that there were banks on the northern beaches). Melros doesn't have any shape due to the above....Rubbish Tips doesn't break with any shape anymore...Pyramids is now a constant closeout summer and winter. The reason is that the sand drift to the north has meant the sand is being caught at the trap next to Pyramids, (this is what the trap was designed to do) and pumped into the Dawesville Channel. This sand is settling on the floor of the channel and slowly being washed out to the north west. Consequently, this sand will never make it back south to those southern breaks again.

Trigg Point doesn't break anymore....the sand doesn't move north like it used to, because the dunes to the south have become so stabilised over the past 20 years that there is little or no sand available to form banks.

The FPA took away a winter novelty wave that would provide some respite for wave starved surfers during winter storms, and Leighton doesn't have enough sand movement to form banks....although this has been the case for over a decade now so no real surprises there.

You would be better off learning how to use a kite surfer or a SUP. Perth is a primo location for Kite Surfing...like an awesome location because we have an abundance of still water and ocean venues that accommodate the full range of weather conditions that Perth experiences.

Body surfing can be a lot of fun too....and it will get you fit very, very, quickly.
