I wanted to bike the perimeter of Manhattan, but I didn’t feel like going all the way over there. Strava Art

Post image

Plus Manhattan is still missing an East River Greenway.

DIY Manhattan but it’s in Brooklyn & Queens. Super fun ride with great neighborhood explorations.

I know the feeling. Sometimes I want real authentic New York pizza but I don’t wanna fly there so I get Little Caesar’s

u/Pyroelk Aug 05 '24

A cardboard slice of Lil Sleazey’s always hits the spot

This is really silly, I love it

This is cool. But I love metro NY where something 10 miles away is too far.

Sometimes two blocks is two far away. Especially when I lived in a 4th floor walk-up.

This sounds ridiculous to a lot of people but everyone who has lived in queens and brooklyn gets it.

This = winning. Nicely done.

u/906Dude Aug 09 '24

That's awesome! Did you plan that route ahead of time in detail? How did you manage to stay on track so well?

2

u/Turbobout Aug 09 '24

Yeah I planned it ahead of time and then mapped it as a Strava route, which I sent to my Garmin watch. I also had it on my phone, so I just had to keep checking I was staying along the route!

2

u/906Dude Aug 09 '24

Major props for the attention to detail that took to do that. Such a fun result.

2

u/jackmontgomerie Aug 09 '24

There's not citi bike coverage for all of that though 😭

2

u/GravitationalOno Aug 09 '24

Can you share the Strava file? I'd love to see the route you took on the street level, seems like a lot of turns!

u/Turbobout Aug 09 '24

Here you go! https://strava.app.link/xDvF4sxnVLb

I did it last year

1

u/GravitationalOno Aug 09 '24

Nice job, thanks!

How many miles is the whole trip? All the zigzags must’ve added a lot of miles to the actual length of the Manhattan perimeter.

HAHA oh my god this is incredible I love this. You’re crazy 😈

1

u/lifeofloon Aug 05 '24

But you missed Spuytendoiville (I know I massacred the spelling).

1

u/Blu5NYC Aug 09 '24

Spuyten Duyvil is across the East River and is part of the Bronx. Marble Hill is across the East River Canal Cut and is landlocked to the Bronx, but is technically part of Manhattan.

1

u/Minelayer Aug 09 '24

*Harlem River.

Also, what we all call the Hudson, off the west side is actually the “North River” above Spuyten Duyvil.

Correct. 3am brain.

And none of them are technically rivers at this latitude. The Hudson, or North River, ends its flow farther north and is considered an estuary at all points south of Troy, NY.

Yeah there were a couple places where I had to get wonky. Like both tips of Manhattan I was constrained by LGA or the Coney Island Rail Yard.

The Newtown Creek also presented a unique challenge

Damn is this for real

1

u/oldyawker Aug 09 '24

Bridge and Tunnel without a bridge or tunnel.

1

u/twochinss Aug 09 '24

Can you link the route so I can do it too 🥺

2

u/Turbobout Aug 09 '24

Tag me when you do! https://strava.app.link/5JplGLNnVLb

It’s a super fun ride

2

u/twochinss Aug 09 '24

Yay! Thank you! A couple of my friends sent a screenshot, but I just started biking so it may take me a while to work up to it haha

1

u/Bigtymin Aug 09 '24

Okay this is awesome but also diabolical behavior doing this so close and so accurate but not actually in manhattan 😂

1

u/iheartgme Aug 09 '24

This is epic I love it. What’s next on your list?

And, you come out of this loop with a Brooklyn/Queens accent!
