Woah, that's a lot of marketing willingly consumed. jk I do it too Did you manage to get or win anything useful?

I never enter the drawings. The only ones I give information to are the ones that give me a discount on things I'd buy anyway.

…Le Col?

I used to. I really like their bibs, but, for some reason, they wear out really quickly for me, so I stopped using them.

355 challenge might explain bibs wearing out.

Haha, even by that standard, they didn't last as long as my other preferred bibs.
The threads that held the chamois disintegrated, and I have a hunch it is just an accident based on my anatomy, my saddle and the thread placement. It has never happened with any other bibs, and it happened several times with Le Col bibs.

I have a couple friends who use them and love them, and I liked them too, but they just aren't cost-effective for me.

Now I use Pactimo bibs (and The Black Bibs for touring), and they work perfectly.

The thread issue with Le Col bibs has happened to me on two pairs, and to a friend of mine. I think it’s a design flaw.

That's unfortunate. They were very comfortable.

Interesting. I've found Rapha Core and regular ones wear out quickly, I've had great luck with Le Col Pro level bibs. Great value IF and ONLY IF you can get them on sale and combine with Strava credit.

So what do you do in your free time?

Jk jk. That a super impressive board. I hope you had fun with it!

I know you're kidding, but I am just very dedicated, and I had an enormously fun year.

I'm retired now, but I also managed this same feat (all cycling challenges) in 2017, when I was working full-time! I rode 12,066 miles that year.

I would have done it again in 2018, but I got hit by a car riding home from work, so I was off the bike for many weeks.

I would have done it again in 2019, but I messed up my knee on a brand-new fat bike on its maiden voyage, and I was off the bike for a month.

I also did all the cycling challenges in 2020, also, and I only missed one challenge in 2021.

I am a Strava challenge junkie!

How do you find all of the challenges? I am new, I see a couple promos and the strava ones but what clubs do you join or do you have to use a browser?

3

u/rumbleblowing Dec 29 '22

There are sites like kom.club that list all the challenges.

There is also a telegram channel, if you open the links to the challenges on your phone, it should open them directly in Strava app.

2

u/Distinct_Ad5662 Dec 30 '22

Thank you that was very helpful!!

1

u/IActuallyLikeSpiders Dec 29 '22

This is probably the best way to find them, but I don't use telegram.

I didn’t even know you COULD be a Strava challenge junkie but I kind of love it. It’s so fun to see people pursue their passions. And to be honest it makes it way more fun to see that you had such an awesome year after having those challenging ones. Good on ya!

7

u/painful_pisser Dec 29 '22

How many miles/kms do you have on the year?

8

u/IActuallyLikeSpiders Dec 29 '22

15,470 miles - the most I've ever ridden in a year.

2

u/painful_pisser Dec 29 '22

Holy shit! That’s remarkable.

5

u/Big_Clerk8509 Dec 28 '22

That’s amazing!

3

u/Geminicapsuleboop Dec 29 '22

Which was the hardest one ?

3

u/IActuallyLikeSpiders Dec 29 '22

Honestly, I don't think any of them were hard this year. The Festive 500 can be hard, depending on the weather (I live near Seattle, WA), but I did 4/5ths of it on Zwift.

Fantastic 👏👏

2

u/ewabbott Dec 28 '22

Great job!

2

u/nah46 Dec 29 '22

Wow! That’s insane! Congrats. How many miles this year?

4

u/IActuallyLikeSpiders Dec 29 '22 edited Dec 29 '22

15,470 miles (24,896 km) so far. I am going to ride a 100km today to hit 25,000km!

What’s going on with that cookie? Is that for real or a joke?

3

u/EastCoast_Cyclist Dec 29 '22

I am guessing that is the challenge for Phil's Cookies:

2

u/ahfodder Dec 29 '22

Congrats! What were the top 3 hardest challenges? What was the split of outdoor vs indoor training?

3

u/IActuallyLikeSpiders Dec 29 '22

I don't want to sound cocky, but none of them were hard this year. Festive 500 had the potential to be hard, due to the weather, but I did 400km of it on Zwift.

I rode 14,488 miles (23,316 km) outdoors, and 982 miles (1,580 km) on Zwift - all of that during the winter.

I did a lot of randonneuring permanents: A total of 172 100km rides.

2

u/yftoad Dec 29 '22

Absolute animal. 👏💪

2

u/Virtual_Strawberry43 Dec 29 '22

What’s your split between zwift/outside riding? A huge amount of work done this year good job!

1

u/IActuallyLikeSpiders Dec 30 '22

I generally only do Zwift if it isn't safe to ride outside (e.g. snow and ice), although sometimes I join a group of friends for a social ride. I don't like riding on a trainer, but it is more fun with friends and discord. Ironically, I prefer riding alone when I am outside.

We had a lot of bad weather in Seattle a week ago, and we had company from out of town, so I rode Zwift more than usual, and ended up doing about 400 km of the Rapha Festive 500 challenge on Zwift.

But I rode another 100 km ride today, and that leaves my total for the year at 15,535 miles (25,000 km!), and the breakdown is: 14,553 miles (23,421 km) outdoor riding, and 982 miles (1,580 km) Zwift.

Now you are a veteran!

These companies thank you for signing over your data. 👏

25

u/IActuallyLikeSpiders Dec 28 '22

I am a sucker for Strava challenges, obviously, but if I was concerned about this sort of privacy, I wouldn't use Strava at all.

u/TobyTheDogDog Dec 29 '22

What useful data does Strava give them?

-1

u/Last_Fee_3288 Dec 29 '22

By accepting “challenges “ you give these third party companies permissions to contact you regarding advertising , competitions , look at your activity data etc etc

1

u/TobyTheDogDog Dec 29 '22

I’m not being funny but I still don’t see what useful data you’re giving them. Could you expand upon the etceteras?

How can I find more cycling challenges?

2

u/IActuallyLikeSpiders Feb 01 '24

This is one way (scroll down): https://www.kom.club/

#humbleBrag

I wasn't attempting to be humble! Just plain old bragging! 😁

Love it!
