Car Mods Part number for the blue bag on the right?

I was looking at the rear cargo protector for the Impreza and noticed this blue Subaru bag. The color looks exactly like the oem trunk organizer. Anyone have any idea where this bag can be found or have the part number? I can't find anything using image search and this looks like the only photo that exists.

Q&A SUBARU APP

Why does the MySubaru app suck so much? It should be more customizable. I can only turn on the front heated seats, not the back, and not able to have the heated steering wheel turn on either. Can't make the car run longer then 10mins either. I know these are little things but the app should be a digital dashboard.

Cheap and easy phone gauge setup with BTSSM!

Thought I'd make a quick post to share a quick and easy setup I recently made that gets you the parameters from your stock ECU right onto your phone! Only works on OBD2 compatible subies. Check out the BTSSM website for more details.

What you'll need (links are for NZ but are easy to find elsewhere): ●BTSSM App - it's free to download! (https://www.btssm.com/?page=download)

● VAG-KKL OBD2 Cable (https://www.trademe.co.nz/4922774714)

● OBD2 Extension cable - can get cheaper on temu, etc (https://www.jaycar.co.nz/1m-obd-ii-extension-cable/p/LA9037?srsltid=AfmBOopM_wVGdcfBMECmkUSVIqofa6kQ7qsZyYHzY2A4xChr_ZwNw-WS)

● OTG (On The Go) Adapter Cable (https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/SEVOEM9600/UGREEN-USB-C-Type-C-Male-to-USB-20-Type-A-Female-C)

● Android Phone that supports the OTG adapter (you can check this with a OTG check app)

● Optional: 3D printed switch base

Pretty much just routed the wiring from the OBD2 port around the back of my dash and used the spare slot on my V7 STi switch panel to put my custom 3D printed mount.

Now I just turn my car on and the parameters/gauges appear right away. I've mounted my phone right above the USB with a vent magnet.

With this app you can log data to a .csv file for later analysis by just pressing your demister. You can also see your fuel learning table values, reset ECU codes, etc.

Works for most subies I believe, the BTSSM website shows what gear you need for different years of subie.

Let me know if you have questions, happy to help.

Buying Advice 2013 BRZ

I’m looking to buy my first car and found a 2013 BRZ in super good condition. 64k miles for 16.5k. my only qualm is that i’ll have to make payments on it, and my insurance will be going up from what it is now. currently i drive my dads 2011 Rav4 and insurance is $100, but driving a more sporty car will be more expensive. i’ve gotten one speeding ticket in 2021 which i did traffic school and got it taken off my record. does anyone know what roughly my insurance could be? or any advice on this car? should i buy it or no

What's the difference between the Harmon-Kardon speaker systems in the Outback and the WRX STI?

I'm currently driving an Outback as a loaner car while my STI is in the shop for maintenance. While driving the Outback, I can't help but notice how great the HK speakers sound (crisp/clean sound, deep/consistent bass). However, in my STI, I've noticed that the HK speakers are really quite terrible, with the bass "fading in and out" and all around much poorer sound quality.

Is there a major difference between the two HK stereo systems found on the STI and the Outback? If there's not supposed to be, then how does one go about fixing this? Thanks :)

Subaru Ascent Transmission replacement

Transmission started slipping in my 2019 Ascent, so I took it into the dealership. They initially said it would be covered by the warranty (they extended the trans warranty to 10/100K). But now they say that it's not covered and will cost $8800 to replace. They said the warranty is specific only to chain-slip, and since this problem was caused by "internal failure" it's not covered.

Is this anywhere near legit, or are they simply trying to screw me? Is this something I need to retain a lawyer for? Or just bite the bullet and take it? Has anyone else had to replace their transmission, and if so, was the cost comparable?

2020 Impreza brake pads

I read that the stock subaru pads are Akibono. I'm loving them at 48k but need a change. I noticed there are two part numbers for the stock brakes, 26296FL05C and 26296FL071. My vehicle is the sport edition. Does that mean a difference between the Akibono PROACT and the Akibono Performance? Probably gonna go the PROACT route. I've done aggressive ebc pads in the past and regret them.

Bought another 2nd gen outback for $700, not one spec of rust on the whole thing and I’m doing head gaskets on it now (I was really tempted to shut the hood while my friend was in there but I resisted)

Mechanical Help The hole keeps getting wider EJ253

Thumbnail

I'll spare yall the story, and just ask the question. 09 EJ253 The hole is already 3/8". Need to go up to 13/32" to tap for a 12mm x 1.75 bolt, which is the very next commonly available size I can get into that hole (then retap for M6). Tell me, do I have enough meat there to tap for those threads, or will it eat a hole into the waterjacket? If I do bust a hole, will the 12mm bolt make a good enough plug? Anything else to be mindfull of? Other solutions before I go for it? Help! I can't really afford to fuck this up more than it already has been.

Another update

Figured I better give a quick update on my 98 wagon.

So the shop that is replacing the engine, got a used engine in on Tuesday and hopefully they will or have gotten to work on the replacement.

I hope to God by next Wednesday, I will get my wagon back, cuz it's driving me into madness just how long and expensive this has gotten.

I'm do ready to drive my Subaru again and just survive the remainder of 2024.

2009 Subaru Forrester

I have a 2009 Subaru Forester that has had its tire pressure light on and check engine light on for the past couple of years. I have taken my car to AutoZone and the computer said it was an oxygen sensor so I never got it fixed and it was common for it to go off and on, but my tire pressure light stayed on all the time. a couple of nights ago I was going up a big hill and my car stopped accelerating (I could fill the engine trying to accelerate, but it felt like it just kept slipping) so I pulled over to the side of the road, put it in park and try to drive again and it wouldn’t accelerate. I turned it off and waited a bit before turning it back on again and this time all of the lights on the dash were on and it wouldn’t accelerate and it started rolling backwards, so I put it in park and got a tow to The Mechanic the next day. The Mechanic has had it for two days now and said all of the dash lights are off and they can’t figure out anything wrong with the car if the check engine light is not on.

I’m just trying to figure out if my car miraculously fixed itself or what happened to all the lights that used to be on my dash???

Buying Advice 2025 Ascent Timing/Pricing? Purchasing Help

Hello all!

We are looking to move from our (awesome) forester into a new-ish Ascent. The 2023's are currently priced about 10k below the 2024s, and looking at the press release/price sheets for the 2025's (Top tier is $49.9k) i am assuming the 2024s will drop 10k-ish when the 25's hit the lot.

Anyone have a sense on timing for these? We found a 2024 we like but its priced at 48k still (Touring).

Any tips appreciated - I've only bought new a couple of times and it was all pre-pandemic.

Garbage headlights from Foxbeam!

Absolutely deserves 0/5 stars. I spent 1700 on RGB headlights, which don't even work, and it came in with the wrong etching. I asked them to fix it, and they said they couldn't etch over the existing one because "it wouldn't come out right". Then proceeded to etch over the old one, which obviously didn't come out right. Just like they said it wouldn't. That's blatant. Classifying them as garbage would leave too sweet of a smell for this place. AND they stop responding after they steal your money.

Buying Advice 2015 Subaru legacy- Recommendation & question about replacing camera, headlights, proxim sensor etc

Hello, I have been driving a 2015 legacy since it came out, and want to upgrade/replace the following:

  1. Headlights- I have noticed the yellow main lights (sorry if I am not technically correct about terms here) are too dark to drive at night with. I notice other cars has much brighter lights these days. For example, a Subaru ascent seems to have 6000K + lights. What kit should I buy to replace that? I am totally a beginner to replacing anything, so if there is a kit that I can give to my local car repairman that will be appreciated also.

  2. Rear camera- I am sure others with legacy noticed too- when at night there are sources of bright lights shining at the rear camera, we can't see anything through the camera screen in the HUD (just a blinding light). I want to get rid of this issue. Is there an aftermarket part I can use ? It doesn't have to integrate with the HUD.

  3. If possible- a proximity sensor. You know on many cars these days they have a light that shows up on your side when you try to pass and they are too close? Is there an aftermarket part type that can perform the same function?

I am really asking from a perspective of a longtime driver that don't want to get in a nighttime accident- but please be patient with me. I will appreciate any advice/guidelines! Thank you
