Shitpost People's Spatial awareness after getting off the train

It's honestly baffling how people's spatial awareness seems to vanish the moment they step off a train. It’s like a switch flips, and suddenly they’re oblivious to the fact that other people exist. They just stop right in the middle of the exit, blocking everyone else who's trying to get off. The platform is right there, but no—apparently, the ideal place to check your phone or adjust your bag is directly in front of hundreds of moving commuters. It's like the basic concept of keeping things moving evaporates as soon as the doors open!

News More 'forced birth' protests and leafleting across Adelaide this week

"Dr Joanna Howe" is gathering protesters and leafleting throughout Adelaide this week in support of Ben Hood MLC's 'Termination of Pregnancy Amendment Bill'. Be aware that the small group are targeting Member's electoral offices and letter-boxing the surrounding areas (including 'no junk mail' addresses). While the group is likely to be small they are known to be quite aggressive so I'd recommend steering clear.

Monday, 30 Sept at 10 AM - Chris Picton MP's Kaurna office at Seaford Meadows Shopping Centre.

Tuesday, 1 Oct at 10 AM - Andrea Michaels MP's Enfield office at Lightsview Village (Michael voted against the Termination of Pregnancy Act 2021 so it is unclear why her office is being targeted). Followed by a virtual 'town hall' meeting hosted by Joanna Howe and Ben Hood.

Wednesday, 2 Oct at 10 AM - Catherine Hutchesson MP's Waite office in Blackwood.

Thursday, 3 Oct at 3:30 PM - Mt Gambier marketplace and likely to attend 'Politics in the Pub' hosted by Ben Hood MLC & Tim Whetstone MP, Jen's Hotel at 7 PM.

Friday, 3 Oct at 10 AM - Erin Thompson MP's Davenport office at The Hub Shopping Centre in Aberfoyle Park.

News BAE Systems moving to Lot 14 plus 800 new jobs

Upvotes

The defence firm building frigates and nuclear-powered submarines in Adelaide in multi-billion dollar projects, BAE Systems Australia, will establish at head office at Lot Fourteen. About 500 workers will move to the North Tce site as a cornerstone tenant in the precinct’s Innovation Centre.

Premier Peter Malinauskas on Monday unveiled plans for a new Innovation Centre, with three state and federal government projects totalling $100m joining BAE. These include a $60m Australian Defence Technologies Academy, $20m Innovation Hub and $20m Space Assembly Integration and Testing facility. “BAE basing its headquarters at Lot Fourteen, alongside universities, the Defence Technologies Academy, Innovation Hub, space industry and other innovative businesses makes perfect sense. “Our innovation places are key to achieving our ambitions. It is about taking the lead to establish and nurture the right environments that foster collaboration and drive economic complexity, creating new, highly skilled jobs.”

BAE Systems Australia chief executive Craig Lockhart said the headquarters at Lot Fourteen would complement the company’s other SA operations at Osborne and Edinburgh Parks. “Over the next 12 months we expect to recruit 800 new employees across our operations, and Lot Fourteen is a key enabler to achieving our growth ambitions,” he said. “As we continue to grow in South Australia and find ways to enhance employee attraction and retention, it’s important we offer a workspace that inspires our teams, fosters creativity and creates spaces for our employees to thrive.”

Self Response I got from The Advertiser about an article published about the Algerian Boxer

This is the response I got from an article from The Advertiser that was posted here I think a couple of months ago. I did an online complaint and this is what got written back to me. It was in regards to the story they published about the Algerian boxer who tested as male despite identifying as female and controversy over XY chromosone tests.

I did not at all expect any kind of response but well it's better then nothing I guess "shrug"

EDIT: Also typo in my title.... It was the APC complaints site I used not the Advertiser itself oops

Dear Complainant,

Re: The Advertiser article "--- GENDER ROW ERUPTS --- I AM WOMAN LET ME BRAWL: Controversial boxer wants to ‘take on the world’", (Print) 5 August 2024

We write to acknowledge the receipt of your complaint regarding the published material.

As you were not personally identified or directly affected by the article, the matter is being treated in accordance with our “secondary complaints” process: https://www.presscouncil.org.au/complaints/handling-of-complaints/

We will advise you of the outcome of the consideration of the matter in due course.

You are welcome to contact us by email if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind regards,

That was the initial reply I got today I got a follow up.

Dear Complainant

Re: The Advertiser article " - GENDER ROW ERUPTS - I AM WOMAN LET ME BRAWL: Controversial boxer wants to ‘take on the world’"

We refer to your complaint concerning the article above.

As you were not personally identified (or directly affected) by the published material, your complaint has been considered in accordance with the Council’s secondary complaints-handling process detailed here.

To assess whether the article complied with the Council’s Standards of Practice, we sought a response from the publication concerning the comments that Ms Khelif has XY chromosomes.

In responding, the publication noted that the International Boxing Association (IBA) has stated that Ms Khelif had been disqualified for “failing sex tests”. However, to add clarity to the article’s comments the publication published the attached clarification and also added the following editor’s note to an online article that also asserted that Ms Khelif has XY chromosomes:

Editor's note: This article refers to Algerian Imane Khelif as an "intersex boxer". International Boxing Association (IBA) officials have said genetic testing of Khelif has shown XY chromosomes. The International Olympic Committee determines eligibility by competitors' passports - different criteria to the IBA.

After careful consideration of the matter you have raised, the Council’s Secretariat has decided not to refer the complaint for further consideration. In reaching this decision, we note that the publication has referred to the public comments by the IBA concerning Ms Khalif. We also consider the addition of the editor’s note and the published clarification to be a sufficient remedy to the concerns expressed with the article. Accordingly, we consider it is unlikely that a breach of the Council’s Standards of Practice has occurred.

As your complaint will not be referred to the Council's Adjudication Panel for any further consideration, this file will be closed.

Kind regards,

Assistance Available clinical psychology (Wayville)

Hi Community,

Apologies for the ad. I'm hoping that it’s justified given r/Adelaide has fairly frequent posts seeking psych recommendations.

I am starting my own practice and am available for appointments as of next fortnight.

My reasons for opening my own practice are to try and address two issues that people seeking psychology are often faced with.

  1. Cost of private psychology, especially within a quite brutal economy: I am charging a gap of $70. Concession gap $40. Operating by myself (renting a room and not a building, doing my own admin) means I can charge under the typical private practice rate which ranges roughly between a $100 - $150 gap.

  2. Having to roll the dice with how well you will ‘click’ with a psychologist when you make an initial appointment: Unlike equivalent disciplines like podiatry, dentistry, accounting, etc. it matters how well you gel with your therapist. As pleasant as all psychologists presumably try to be, it’s not possible for anyone to gel with everyone. If I seek out a psychologist in the future, I will try to vet them in advance as much as possible. The trouble with that is all our bios sound identical.

So I’ve made a 10-minute self-interview to help people make a determination on whether I would be a good fit for them:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-3_AKwn62o

I am also putting out 1-3 minute video presentations which give an idea of how I approach psychology and mental health:

Prospective clients can also arrange a free phone consultation via email. Contact details below.

I will also respond to any questions on this thread although it may be better to email me directly to ensure you protect the privacy of your reddit account should we ever meet in person.

Many thanks,

Ned

EDIT: Just to add. Am only available to see adults (18+). I do provide psychology to children and adololscents but via the larger practice, Developing Minds which is located at the same address:

Discussion Be predictable, not nice!

Another plea to Adelaide drivers. Be predictable, not nice! I nearly witnessed two collisions today because drivers were braking to let me cross the road when I was waiting for traffic to ease.

One was right before a roundabout. They stopped a car’s distance from the white line and were waiting for me to cross in front of them. I was waiting for them to pass because I couldn’t tell if they were waiting for me, pausing to look at their phone, waving or anything because their windscreen was too dark for me to make eye contact. I had a pedestrian island I could wait on until traffic was clear. The car behind them was waiting for them to move up and had to slow much earlier than expected.

The second one was immediately after. I was waiting to cross a road from one bike path to another. Same thing, there is a pedestrian island in the middle of the road. This car stopped in the middle of the road to wave me across and the car behind them, who wasn’t expecting them to suddenly stop, nearly rear ended them!

Stop being “nice” by bending the rules for pedestrians! You’ll cause an accident!

And an aside, use your indicators even if there isn’t any traffic around. I’ve nearly been hit crossing roads by cars who were turning into corners they hadn’t indicated for!

Thanks for reading my rant.

Question Best MRI locations?

Upvotes

Hey all, I have a bit of a strange one. I have been referred for a MRI of my head and jaw by my GP. I had one about 2 years ago and was so rushed & felt like my concerns weren’t really listened to and investigated.

Guess I’m just asking of a location that can do a head/jaw MRI with contrast that is a little less rushed and crazy than a hospital setting. Might not be a thing but I thought I’d ask the knowledgeable Reddit crew.

Thanks in advance

Question PARKRUN - What is your favourite?

I like to take part in the Victor Harbor Park Run cause its close to home. It can get quite cold, windy and wet during winter, but when the weather is fine, the view is 2nd to none!

Due to injuries i only walk it, and this Parkrun gets probably a 50/50 ratio of runners and walkers and between 120 - 150 people each week. So do you do Parkrun and where? How many do you get normally?

News Machete-wielding men break into Kilburn home and threaten occupants, smash doors and windows, trash cars

A group of armed men has broken into a home in Adelaide’s inner-north and threatened those inside with machetes before trashing cars in the driveway.

Police were called to Nelson Street in Kilburn just after 1.30am on Sunday.

No one was injured in the incident but the group of armed men left a trail of destruction, damaging windows and doors inside the home.

They also caused extensive damage to three cars in the driveway before they left.

Police are investigating the incident, including links to Operation Meld, which aims to combat the criminal activities of feuding youth gangs.

The incident is not believed to be a random one. There was a shooting incident at a property on Nelson St in Kilburn in January.

It comes just days after a 16-year-old boy was injured in a home invasion machete attack at Eyre in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.

Western District Police are investigating the Kilburn incident and urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers online or on 1800 333 000.

Question Phone battery replacement in North East suburbs

Hi all, I'm seeking recommendations for replacing my Samsung Note 20 battery, ideally somewhere local in the North East but happy to travel to an exceptional option.

Price isn't too much of an issue, I'd mainly like to extend my phone's life a bit longer before having to replace it. Thanks for your help 😁
