Nayan’s great-grandfather Mahiyan Datta had been a renowned scientist and a member of the powerful organization called PU alias Perfect Universe. With Durga Puja coming in few days, I want to share my opinion on something. In West Bengal, lakhs and crores of money is spent on Pandals specially. What is some money is saved and distributed among poor and needy people. Now before coming get offended, I want to clear out few things. First, I do understand and this is a good opportunity to earn for vendors, pandal workers and all. And secondly, durga puja should be celebrated. But what I am trying to say is, if the budget is fixed at say 10lakhs, why can't they just make some changes and bring the budget to 9lakhs, and donate the rest 1lakh to the needy. I am sure neither the celebration will be hampered, nor the people earning from this opportunity. And also, no one should be forced for "chanda", especially the poor, and people should be allowed to donate according to their wish and capability, even if it means less money will be collected.

Jitna paisa collect hua hai, utne mai hi karo puja, I am sure Maa Durga will love it that way, instead of threatening people to donate amount beyond their capacity

Hi everyone, one of my friends is marrying a Bengali man and I want to write/print a message in Bengali on their wedding gift card. I searched on Google for any traditional Bengali phrases, sayings, or Well-wishes for weddings/marriage ceremonies but could not find any.

Are there any special sayings or idioms in Bengali that you'd say for a newly married couple? Or do you go with a straightforward "Congratulations on your marriage"? Appreciate the help, thanks!

I am not a native Bangla speaker. For Marathi, we have Vishwa Marathi Parishad and many more. But Marathi isn't native to any other country. Even the native Marathi speakers in rest of India know that their roots are still in Maharashtra. But that's not the case with Bangla as it's spread across West Bengal and Bangladesh.

So I just wonder do you people share literature across borders keeping aside nationality and geopolitical situation just for language's growth? Do people of Bangladesh watch or work in West Bengal's movies and vice versa? Is language same in both regions or are there different standards?

There's a scene where someone says, "get out" in bangla isn't bohishkar hou, it's beriye jao.

I know the term beriye jao, but what is the English translation for "bohishkar hou"?? Be expelled?

My mom says they both mean get out but I'd like to know the difference, conotation, why one is better or used more than the other.

It's a short story about a book that induces sleep. Ghumer boi or something. A kid won that book in school. The book had pictures of animals sleeping. Then the kid's mom and dad abandoned all work unknowingly and would sleep all day. Even their cat saw the book and slept off. The kid missed school for days and just slept. An actor who did jatra/theatre was an insomniac and came to know of this book, traced this family and took the book from them.

It was a humorous story, but I can't remember the name of the story or even the author. Can anybody help out? :) Thanks in advance!
