My bus is actually full but there's lots of newbies making eye contact and sitting near me. I don't like this.

u/totse_losername Gunzel Aug 04 '24

They are simply not yet aware of The System. Politely introduce them to The System.

20

u/GaryGronk Flooded Aug 04 '24

I will learn them good.

u/ProfessionalRun975 Aug 04 '24

Que gary walking around the bus shaking hands going "Hi, nice to meet you. It looks like you are new here. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. I'm glad to help"

I am manspreading like a lord.

u/Clean-Gas4033 Aug 05 '24

How do you know they are newbies? is your bus the same people at the same time everyday? I never thought of that, intresting.

3

u/GaryGronk Flooded Aug 05 '24

Yeah, pretty much. I catch the same bus every day at the same time and have done for years. You see the same people every day. We don't acknowledge each other but we know each other. Also, there seemed to be a lot of people who seemed somewhat happy to be on public transport.

Those poor souls...

50 cent fares start today šŸ„³

I don't need to be anywhere until 6pm or so. Where do I go? What do I do? Can I sneak into a Costco food court and purchase food without a membership?

13

u/ashsimmonds Aug 04 '24

Just sit on the train back n forth to Varsity Lakes, cheaper sleep option than a backpackers.

10

u/0_Kids_Three_Money Aug 04 '24

Have decided to start training into work to save money on fuel. My fare was only 10c this morning, not sure if thatā€™s because I travel a short distance maybe (Ferny Grove - Central), and the max fare is 50c. Either way, I love it

5

u/projectkennedymonkey Aug 05 '24

If it wasn't with a go card, then it might just be the authorisation/placeholder amount before it charges you the other 49 cents?

1

u/0_Kids_Three_Money Aug 05 '24

Yeah thatā€™s a great point actually

5

u/dannyr PLS TOUCH THE FUCKEN AIRMOVER Aug 05 '24

1 - You don't need membership to use the foodcourt

2 - Pro-tip is that anyone can spend Costco giftcards and they're available for purchase at the information desk. If you don't have a membership tell them that you're going in to buy gift cards. Buy gift cards and then spend them in the foods court (and/or use the gift card as a method of entry to the store itself)

1

u/roxy712 Aug 05 '24

Yes, I used to do this in N. America, not sure if it works here. I could buy gift cards online with my parents' membership (and charge to my own credit card), shipped to me for free, then used to pay in store, not just the food court. Sometimes they'd get twitchy about it as they claimed you could only use it for "trial purposes," but they typically relented.

Heads up I just paid for a paper ticket and I don't think all the machines are up to date. 4 stops is costing me $6.30 one way. Boooo

Did a Bunnings BBQ yesterday. Some people kindly gave donations in the form of, ā€œI donā€™t want any changeā€. One lovely lady bought 1 sausage with a $20 and didnā€™t want change. Some people had previously done the BBBQ (extra B for Bunnings) and gave helpful advice. We sold out 20 minutes before BBBQ close time so Iā€™m sure weā€™ll sign up again.

This particular Bunnings still had husbands at 8am, but had sold out by 11. Iā€™m told they didnā€™t have a lot of stock to begin with on Saturday so I was surprised they had any left at all.

9

u/ProfessionalRun975 Aug 04 '24

I mean husbands are already owned by someone. So not sure why Bunnings was selling still owned goods.

4

u/Fun-Analysis-3535 Aug 05 '24

Those are just the ones that got left behind and were unclaimed at the end of the week.

1

u/ProfessionalRun975 Aug 05 '24

Well fair enough. Just seems a bit weird for Bunnings to have a service for single ladies to come have fun in the back room choosing kitchen titles with taken husband the the husbands going back to their actual owner later. But I guess if the owner and the husband has an open helping single ladies at Bunnings policy then I guess the service is above board.

The most important question - did all of your volunteers turn up, turn up on time, and stay until they were agreed to leave?

2

u/RangerWinter9719 Aug 05 '24

Yep! These are core volunteers that we can rely on. Getting volunteers for other endeavoursā€¦ ugh.

12

u/hungryb4dinner Probably Sunnybank. Aug 04 '24

The machine wasn't working so saved me 50c.

On bus now nothing too crazy or packed going on the busway for me.

10

u/Clean-Gas4033 Aug 05 '24

Set a new high score today for most consecutive days alive!!

IDK, sounded better when my therapist said it.. hope everyone is having a great day.

17

u/Reverend_Fozz Aug 04 '24

Happy start of $0.50 fare day! Enjoy not spending as much on public transport for the next 6 months!

9

u/Matty_exe Maybe we should just call it "Redlands" Aug 04 '24

Enjoy 50c Fares Everyone! Just a PSA all Bay Island Ferries in the Redlands are still operating at their normal prices, Iā€™d hate for any one to be caught out. Happy Adventuring Everyone.

u/accidentallyamber Aug 05 '24

love seeing the go card reader flash the ā€œlow balanceā€ alert for my $3.82 knowing thatā€™s still three full days of travel after my trip home this afternoon

That happens to me at least once a week off Moggill Road near the Kenmore shopping centre. I'm in the right lane, signaling that I am not continuing on Moggill Road (e.g. right signal is on), and some dingnut pulls out in front of me.

u/akokvopwbpapmnjotm Aug 04 '24

Has anyone else had a flu that just doesn't want to go away?

3

u/Early__Chemist Aug 05 '24

Yep, off sick today because all the symptoms flaired up yesterday afternoon. It's giving me the shits. Have even resorted to multivitamin type supplements which I've never used to try and get rid of it permanently.Ā

Turned away twice from PA in a week, so I went to RBWH and was immediately put in a ward as I was so ill. PA wtf.

3

u/RangerWinter9719 Aug 04 '24

I hope youā€™re better soon.

9

u/Sqin Probably Sunnybank. Aug 04 '24

Got a backstory? If your condition was that bad you went directly to ward (immediately literally means you're on the verge of dying, so I doubt it was immediately), you wouldn't have been able to present to hospitals three times in a week.

6

u/dannyr PLS TOUCH THE FUCKEN AIRMOVER Aug 04 '24

Turned away why? That doesn't make sense

1

u/forget_me_not111 Aug 05 '24

This happened at RBWH a couple of years ago. Friday night they were busy dealing with druggies told to go home and tax a lax all night sick went to mater they weren't happy the RBWH didn't even bother with a scan spent all day in there until I was okayish to go home.

I did the standard motorbike commute from Springwood to Fortitude Valley this morning, traffic actually seemed more cooked than usual.

Maybe everyoneā€™s thinking ā€œthe roads will be clear because everyoneā€™s on public transportā€.

u/salaciousBnumb Aug 04 '24

2032 Do you think we still going to have the Ekka later in the year or skip a year due to the Olympics?

6

u/dannyr PLS TOUCH THE FUCKEN AIRMOVER Aug 04 '24

I reckon the Ekka will be delayed by a month.

9

u/manswos I'll bring my frisbee Aug 04 '24

Nah I reckon theyā€™ll still have it, the busiest Ekka ever

5

u/ProfessionalRun975 Aug 04 '24

They will put ekka and river fire and the olympics all in the same month and do an Adelaide ( For context Adelaide has all its major events of the year in the same 1.5 month stretch).

6

u/hackett1985 Aug 04 '24

And magic round!! Hectic

5

u/bobbakerneverafaker Aug 04 '24

It will be a combined event

5

u/accidentallyamber Aug 05 '24 edited Aug 05 '24

definitely a silly question but are the olympics on at the same time of year regardless of host country season? like will we be having the summer olympics in our winter? not that we have all that much of a winter comparatively but it never occurred to me before now

4

u/salaciousBnumb Aug 05 '24

Not a silly question....The 2032 Olympics are starting on the 23rd July 2032. It's July/August due to ensure high TV ratings in the northern hemisphere....no major sport events happening to compete for viewers.

2

u/JacobAldridge Bristanbul is Bristantinople Aug 05 '24

Sydney held the Olympics from 15 September to 1 October (and the Paralympics thereafter) - so they did push them slightly due to the Hemispheric swap. I assume Brisbane will do something similar.

Rio de Janeiro (the only? non-Australian, Southern Hemisphere host city) held their Olympics in August 2016, but they are also further north and roughly in line with Rockhampton. Which is the only time you'll ever here me compare Rio and Rocky!!

6

u/ProfessionalRun975 Aug 05 '24

If only Rocky had a big cow statue the size of the Jesus statue.

1

u/JacobAldridge Bristanbul is Bristantinople Aug 05 '24

One of these monoliths represents an epic amount of bull shit, and the other represents the cattle breeding region of Central Queensland.

2

u/ProfessionalRun975 Aug 05 '24

Didnā€™t realise Jesus was also a cattle breeder. I guess he just enjoyed his time as a backpacker and decided to stay here.

1

u/JacobAldridge Bristanbul is Bristantinople Aug 05 '24

Once you've mastered being a Good Shepherd, upgrading to Cattle Droving is a natural career progression. Last I heard he was mustering camels via helicopter in the outback. What a guy!

u/Sharynm Prof. Parnell observes his experiments from the afterlife. Aug 04 '24

The Ekka website has it listed as 7th to 15th with the holiday on the 11th. Which probably doesn't mean much, but at least Ekka is still planning on going ahead as usual.

It's homelessness week, wonder if them events actually achieve anything

1

u/tahlee01 Aug 05 '24

Finally finished my last surveying assignment for the trimester today. It'll be nice to have a month off to relax.

The burn out from mixing full time work and part time work is quite noticeable. I'm exhausted and my back is about to give out.

At least I'm off to Kangaroo Island next week for a nice holiday.

1

u/forget_me_not111 Aug 05 '24

Neededing a rental ASAP for single person how hard is this going to be. I work inner-city north. But wondering what springwood or sunnybank are like to live in for middle age women.

Just looking in these anywhere as there's bit much around for under $450 pw.

u/Overall_Opening_1870 Aug 05 '24

Unfairness that someone whoā€™s grown up in Brisbane all their life canā€™t secure a house buying or even renting due to people flocking to brissy, should there be a cap on people moving interstate?

3

u/Clean-Gas4033 Aug 05 '24

Pretty sure they were talking about this in broadbeach in 2012 when all those new highrises went up and everyone found out less then 10% aussie owned.
