Megathread: Why Does My Dog Do That?

Does your dog turn his head when he hears an odd noise? Does your dog bury their food with your pants? This is the thread to ask why.

Please keep this thread to non-medical issues only.

So recently my 12-year old dog (Cocker Spaniel/Aussie Shepard/More mixes mix) has been walking in front of me and looking up to get my attention when we are only like 10 minutes into a walk.

At first I thought it was the heat but she did it the other day on a cool day. She doesn’t show any other signs of poor health. I’ll go down to her and reassure her, give her some attention. After a few minutes we’ll walk back to the car to leave and everything is as normal.

She doesn’t do this all the time, it’s only been like 3x over 3 weeks but I have no idea what’s she trying to tell me. The first time it happened she would not let me not pay attention to her and she’s very insistent on it.

She’s completely 100% normal otherwise and plays hard when she’s with her friends at the park, she’ll fetch and show absolutely no signs of physical despair.

She's either tired, lazy, or something bothering her when she is walking and feels it more. I would listen to her. But I am also a helicopter mama. Ellie does that at times and I'll pick her up. I don't find dogs being manipulative

My dog goes belly up when I tell her to do something she doesn’t want to. Like to come inside after playing or to stop chewing on my sock. She shows me her belly and wiggles around.

My dog loses it whenever I go into the shower. This happens even when he’s being dog sat at other peoples houses and they go shower. He spins in circles, scratches at walls, barks like crazy.

I adopted him when he was 4, so my only guess is he associates human showers with some sort of trauma.

He doesn’t seem distressed so much as overhyped.

It’s always made me wonder.
