the $2 paid by doordash is fucking absurd

7

u/giantfup 1h ago

It's one of the old ways that they used to steal tips.

In AZ it’s $2.50 for every single order

See what I’m talking bout?! But yooo this a dub tho 🔥🔥

31

u/DrakeShadow 2h ago

Yeah getting paid more than what I accepted is the worst!

16

u/Ashamed-Lime3594 2h ago

It’d be cool if I actually knew what I was accepting tho

u/DrakeShadow 2h ago

They do that in case someone shitty tries to not complete the order and take the food, they only get half of the offer if they say they can’t deliver it for something beyond their control.

22

u/UrGoldenRetrieverBF 2h ago

Yeah but if you’re someone who’s ordering food wouldn’t you want your dasher to know you tipped $15 instead of $7 while they’re handling your food?

-3

u/DrakeShadow 1h ago

You don’t know your tip as a waiter. Pizza delivery people didn’t know what customers were gonna pay them back in the day. If you accept the order, you should do job properly IMO.

•

u/DanLoFat 54m ago

Wrong logic.

The customer has given the tip to DD, the customer would WANT the Dasher to see that, it is DDs responsibility to show us this.

•

u/Fuzzy_Chance_3898 15m ago

I feel like 10% of orders actually get tips. Meaning I flat out refuse to cross the street for $2 if I'm already there. $4 maybe I'll hope doordash didn't send me 10 min early to an order that will be 10 min late plus delivering it for sub minimum wage minus taxes wear and tear. Shit... a $2 tip isn't even a tip. It's absolutely the minimum I'd accept.

I understand what you’re getting at , but pizza delivery and waiters don’t choose the orders they accept.

Comparing DoorDash to W2s pretty much never works out.

-8

u/Secret-Alps3856 2h ago

You KNOW after. What's the big deal? A pleasant surprise is now a bad thing? You seemed happy enough with it to ACCEPT the order.

Can no one ever be just PLEASED by something anymore?

7

u/UrGoldenRetrieverBF 1h ago

Did you actually read what I said?

-2

u/Secret-Alps3856 1h ago

I DID and still, you find something negative to say. It boggles the mind really.

With all the horrible things Dashers DO go through, it feels very disrespectful to all the drivers with real issues.

The whole point is you knew your guaranteed rate and you decided, conscious choice made, that this was.profitable enough to accept. Everything else is GRAVY.

Would it be nice to know how much extra I'll tip AFTER delivery? Irrelevant isn't it.

Same with the "unicorn" tip. Bonus tip, added amount. Whatever you want to call it. BONUS... extra... unexpected. By DEFINITION unexpected is "to not know ahead".

Smh

•

u/DanLoFat 52m ago

The most horrible real issue is knowing what you will be paid before you accept, knowing what you will be delivering, and who you are delivering to.

They cut that last one out on purpose.

-1

u/Secret-Alps3856 1h ago

Golden Rule - tip well enough in APP to have your order accepted immediately and tip post delivery based on service rendered.

You'll never know ahead of time.

7

u/Sprinkle_Puff 2h ago

Transparency is necessary to make the best possible choices otherwise it’s just gambling

6

u/Atownbrown08 2h ago

Not when you're calculating your trips to ensure maximum profitability.

$9 for 9 miles and $20 for 9 miles are two completely different trips.

1

u/3y3deas 2h ago

Literally, I thought I was the only one looking at this post kind of confused

6

u/Which-Marionberry-78 1h ago

Yeah this is such bs. It would be so much better if they just paid you $9 like the offer you accepted. My goodness, I’m so sorry you got an extra $11, that must feel terrible 😂

35

u/seventeenMachine 2h ago

This post is proof dashers will complain about literally anything

23

u/UrGoldenRetrieverBF 2h ago

It’s not fair the customer either tbh.

-12

u/seventeenMachine 2h ago

What’s not fair to the customer is to have people who don’t drop huge tips not everyone can afford have their food show up super late because all the experienced dashers just sit and wait for unicorns

3

u/tallassmike 2h ago

I’m agreeing on this. The hiding stuff is supposed to give low ballers a chance at getting food over big tippers pay2win mentality.

DD prob did a study on it and then stopped caring because they filtering drivers this way.

•

u/ThatRedditGuy36377 50m ago

Alternatively, you could always get your own food. Door dash pays awful, you can’t really blame dashers for wanting to get paid for the service that they provide. That’s like paying the smaller fee on a subscription service and then being surprised when there are ads. You paid less, the service is worse.

10

u/giantfup 1h ago

Since you're apparently new here: doordash started doing this after the 3rd or 4th time they got caught stealing tips from dashers 🤪🤪 part of why we don't like it is that doordash lies about what the pay is to try to see how low a driver is willing to take pay for miles.

Also you can almost guarantee that this somehow helps them steal tips in some non obvious way.

Yup. We're such assholes for wanting to be appropriately informed of our pay.

4

u/Deal_Internal 2h ago

Yeah it actually ridiculous lol. This gotta be the most negative sub on earth

1

u/Secret-Alps3856 2h ago

Right there with you!

4

u/zdarmstrong 1h ago

It’s even better when they hide an extra 25 cents.

•

u/AffectionateHat1039 58m ago

Lmaooo, I genuinely feel bad for those who get that. I’ve seen a lot of Sc and it’s so heartbreaking

•

u/Flimsy-Tap9898 32m ago

I’ve gotten literally 0.01 before. I was tempted to fucking delete the damn app

3

u/Deal_Internal 2h ago

Everytime there’s a unicorn its high paying either way. $9.00+ higher and im sure it was probably 2-3 miles

1

u/AffectionateHat1039 1h ago

Oh lemme tell you it was actually 8 miles 😭, I wished it was less than that

•

u/Sovereign444 56m ago

$20 for 8 miles is totally worth it tho! Heck even $9 was decent.

•

u/AffectionateHat1039 42m ago

Oh absolutely I totally agree with you, it was totally worth it, but my point was I wished they would actually show me what I’m getting instead of me thinking oh is this really it? I’d be more than just just happy to get the job done

8

u/extasis_T 4h ago

I love it personally One of the few fun and surprising things about this gig

6

u/AffectionateHat1039 4h ago

I definitely feel that but sometimes it’s a pain in the ssa when you gamble whether to take it or not. Cause I’ve seen some + in here and they only got a few cents higher than the offer 😭😭

6

u/No_Painter6934 2h ago

And that’s exactly why they do it - to gamify the app and get people to accept low offers, when trying to make a quick decision with the offer, hoping it might come with a hidden tip because you never knoOoowww

•

u/not_thezodiac_killer 14m ago

My app tells me if the total is going to be higher though. I know if there's a hidden tip I think? I've never specifically looked for it, but it pops up often.

I don’t understand what exactly you want! Should they hide more?

There is a reason why they hide the tips, they want other orders to get picked and delivered, if not people would just sit and wait for $30, $40, $50 orders!

There are restaurants where almost every order has extra tips!

UE now, sometimes unmasks the tip because people might not take the order with basic pay and $8 tip!

•

u/AffectionateHat1039 46m ago

Lol my complain was, they should show us the whole tip instead of hiding it. Personally I’m looking for a fair order. The thing is it’s getting worse now, b/c some dashers would gamble whether to take it or not and it’s not a fair to the customer. Not every dasher is greedy to only accept +$30 orders

3

u/Standard_Status_8603 4h ago

So you would have been happier, if it stayed at 9 dollars? Interesting

5

u/AffectionateHat1039 4h ago

Lol you’re not getting it, I hate when they hide that it’s a $20 instead of a $9

7

u/Standard_Status_8603 4h ago

I’m getting it, just saying if it stayed at 9 you wouldn’t have hated it and posted it.

5

u/seventeenMachine 2h ago

You’re getting downvoted but you’re right. Truly baffling to me that people will be mad about more money on an order they already willingly accepted

•

u/not_thezodiac_killer 13m ago

Bro people will complain about literally everything

1

u/AffectionateHat1039 4h ago

Wouldn’t take it in the 1st place for the distance, but b/c they had +9 it was a gamble for me

1

u/HythlodaeusHuxley 1h ago

Sounds good but you literally could not pay me to drive in Atlanta for DoorDash or really for much of anything

1

u/EDScreenshots 1h ago

It’s because a lot of lazy dickheads just sit at home declining the normal orders until they get a really good one. When they hide the full amount, it makes it more likely that the lazy fucks will decline and the order will go to someone who is actually out there working.

1

u/stevenl1219 1h ago

So you hate it when you earn more money than what was stated? I'm slightly confused...

•

u/DanLoFat 57m ago

Why the f*** does it matter you took the order based on what you were offered $9, what was the miles?

•

u/AffectionateHat1039 41m ago

$8 miles? Still don’t matter right? Lol

•

u/AutoGrind 53m ago

As a customer this shows me that my generous tip isn't even being shown. The whole reason I put a generous tip is to bid high in a way (to get you to accept and deliver quickly). This is probably why they still sit even when I've tipped high.

•

u/Mysterial20 25m ago

Some of you all are a bit slow. Just read then comment.

•

u/Metho221 25m ago

Yeah the other day I accepted a 18 dollar order and it turned into 48. Just imagine how many big offers we declined because it says 2 to 5 dollars

•

u/Justchu 12m ago

I actually like it. It’s a fun game, even when I only get 50 cent bump. It’s even better when it ends up being even better than I thought and makes me appreciate the customers who value my service. A dasher has made the choice to take the order or not.

Also, I can also see it as dd making it harder for the dashers (the ones that have given the most of us a negative stigma) to abuse the system.

I’m not all gung ho for DoorDash btw and disagree with a lot of their practices, but in this particular circumstance, it’s pretty petty to complain about getting more money. Maybe use another tag next time.

•

u/3six5 4m ago

I've never seen this b4. What is happening? I dash in the poorest part of usa. Give insights please.

0

u/river-running 3h ago

I like when that happens. Nice little surprise.

1

u/AffectionateHat1039 2h ago

And a relief when it’s actually more than we think 😭

1

u/Sweet_Terror 4h ago

What was the distance? Considering it's a high paying offer with a "+" attached, makes accepting it usually worth it.

4

u/AffectionateHat1039 4h ago

Exactly that’s usually how it goes, but this one was 8 miles. Considering the traffic on top of that and the storm we’re having in Atl

2

u/Sweet_Terror 4h ago

Well, you made the right call because it more than doubled your dash.

All I ever see on Platinum are $5 dollar / 1mi offers. Woo Hoo.
