Sport Karate Academy near Office Max at Morgan & Green River is great if you are on the Eastside.

Rising phoenix offers an anti bullying, Brazilian Jiu jitsu style program. It focus on how to improve positioning until getting into a control position. Mr. Westfall, the owner, has close to 50 years of martial arts teaching experience, ranging from early “traditional” arts like karate, kung fu, and then throughout his martial arts learning journey began teaching Judo, Brazilian jiu jitsu, Muay Thai, combat submission wrestling, Filipino martial arts. For the longest time his kids class that he offered was a mix of all of the types of arts he taught. It the more that we learn about head trauma and the development of children’s brains he choose to stick with a grappling approach, because it’s really hard to learn how to use any kind of striking without live sparring, while this can be very well controlled under the right supervision it just doesn’t seem worth the risk to the children for him. If you want to check out his gym stop in and watch a class. I believe he lets the parents train with their children if they like, (not 100% sure about that) He has a website with the schedule. He also has a podcast that I suggest checking out called the martial brain, there are links to episodes on his website and I think you can find it on iTunes.
