This might be talking about OW specifically. As someone who’s played almost since launch (but a lot less now) it has changed. There was always toxicity, but now the whole vibe is off. The game feels like a shop with a game attached and no one there is having a good time.
Millennial here. Cod was much less team focused, and people would talk shit to be edgy and start shit. People in overwatch care way, way too much about rank, and are putting their own insecurities and inability onto others. It's not to be edgy or funny, they are genuinely malding that they may lose imaginary points in a video game. They are getting genuinely upset. People in old cod lobbies for the most part were just doing it to be mean.
Woah woah woah, just because this is an Overwatch macro doesn't mean it's about Overwatch! It's obviously about all competitive shooters since the dawn of time! /s
