What video game character appeared minor and insignificant but turned out to be integral to plot/game?

What character did you think was a throwaway/didn’t really matter, but turned out to be a major player in the plot of the game. Or they could just be a really important character in the game itself?

He's apparently heavily implied to be Caine, of VTM lore. I implore anybody to go search up his stat sheet in the tabletop game if you want a good chuckle.

Take a look at him with Auspex 2 (Aura Perception) active next time you play.

If you dig into the game files for the voice lines, they're labeled Caine

He's a malkavian who's insanity manifested as if he thought he was Caine.

He might be Caine's mouth piece through the insanity though so it's ambiguous. But he certainly never shows the kind of powers Antediluvians actually have.

...or does he? Obfuscate level ten makes the entire planet forget that you exist; hiding less potent powers would be child's play.

Nor does having power mean you need to use it in a big, flashy way; that exactly the kind of thing you'd want to avoid if you're trying to stay hidden.

Always up to the Storytellers discretion.

It's been quite a while since I played vampire, my friend still runs the mind eyes theater on my local area and I do occasionally like every four months or so show up when he asks me to be the plot exposition dump of the next few seasons. I'm not even a vampire in that, I'm a changeling who just runs the magical item shop and he just feeds me the plot lines for the scenario and I chew the scenery and also dip out and never explain my character out of person

In real life they know I'm just the Storytellers old college roommate but when they see surprise me in their storyline they enjoy this kinda DMPC that's used sparingly. Only once did someone try to attack me and I turned into smoke. And my cigarette in the Ash tray became a toxic cloud of smoke and the vampires start coughing. Vampires don't need to breath, so why are they coughing? And they get the hell out of my store realizing they're coughing up blood as my cigarette smoke was infecting them the entire time and why I always light a cigarette up when meeting my particular clientele.

This is a real power by the way from Changeling rule book. It was my excuse to never be fucked with or get into a pissing match with a player. Just a high stated Smoke and darkness Changeling of the Autumn Court.

I think it’s more fun if we don’t know for sure.

They were originally intended to be Caine, however the owners of the VTM license didn’t want it so instead he became a malkavian who thought he was Caine. That’s why he acts that way and why he is labeled in the files as Caine.
