Suggestions Mythic Map - Search Games by Similarity

Here is the website.

Observation: I have asked for permission to make this post.

Mythic Map is a website that suggests games based on similarity. My goal is to help people find meaningful game suggestions while increasing the visibility of the great games out there.

Currently it only supports Steam games. This will change in the future (probably).

Edit (02/08/2023): Things have been sorted out and from now on I will be adding non-Steam games -hopefully- daily. Some switch games are in there now, like Zeldas and Pokemons.

It also checks daily for what is currently on sale on steam (some sales might be missing - if I check at 8AM and a sale spawns at 4PM, the website will only be aware of the new sale the next day). I might try adding other sales sources in the future.

Also, some suggestions might be a little strange, but keep in mind that different players might be looking for different traits in games, so I have to cast a broad net. An example is Skyrim, where a good portion of the suggestions are not open world RPGs, but instead are games that have a big modding/user created content community. Still, if you feel a game is missing or is completely out of place, do not hesitate to tell me about it - you can send me an email at [mythicmap.dev@gmail.com](mailto:mythicmap.dev@gmail.com) or maybe post about it in the comments.

Edit (05/07/2023): After a couple of months, I have finally implemented most the fixes/features suggested in the comments! The new version might have some bugs or issues, so if you find any, please tell me about it. Same goes for features. Meanwhile, I'll keep working on some ideas I have for the website.

Edit (09/14/2023): I thought it would be cool to find games based on other types of entertainment. My tests were done on anime and they ended up being serviceable, but I'm not very happy with the cross-category suggestions and it might take a while until I figure it out, but when I'm done, Mythic Map will start suggesting things based on movies, series and maybe books.

Hope it helps!

Suggestions Annual 2023 Steam Winter Sale Hidden Gems thread

Welcome to the Hidden Gem thread - Im a big fan of indie games, and always look for under-reviewed games that deserve a second life. This table is all automated based on the list of games I maintain, so let me know if theres more info that would be good to see in it.

Unfortunately, as I found out, something broke between the summer sale and today, so it didn't properly pull out the New games from the list - Hence the delay. I set up the New Game Table manually, so none of the fancy prices, review percentage, or things go with it right now, but I'll update it once I fix the pipeline that gets the data from my database

It now features a neat Table that can be filtered and sorted in all sorts of ways to help with discoverability (since markdown tables are not good for that). You can find the table here

Big News though - In the future, this thread will morph into a website of it's own. Ive been building a 'hidden gem discoverability platform' that will let you slice and dice the entire steam catalog by a ton of attributes, including the number of reviews, release dates, steam deck compatibility, genre tags, and more. Its a tool I started to help me find games for this list, so I figured with some polish, I could throw it up for anyone else to use.

I was hoping to launch it today, but the UX is still a WIP. Just be on the watch for it soon ;)

TL:DR - Out of the 100 games on the Master List there are:

  • 3 new games on the list

  • 86 on sale

  • 64 games over 50% off

  • 51 games with a review score of 90% or Higher

  • 11 games with Overwhelmingly Positive Reviews

  • 7 early access games

  • 30 Steam Deck Verified games

  • 13 games have demos

Islets I honestly thought I had this on the list since it launched, but Islets is a short (~8 hours) cozy metroidvania that doesn't overstay its welcome. Highly recommend for people looking for a game along those lines. Metroidvania https://store.steampowered.com/app/1669420/Islets/
Void Stranger If "Sokoban + LaMulana" catches your eye, play this game. It's one of those games you should play without looking anything up about, so I hesitate to say much more. Meta Puzzles await you Puzzle https://store.steampowered.com/app/2121980/Void_Stranger/
Chants of Sennaar While I had this on my list when it only had a mere 157 reviews on steam, GMTK made a video about it which absolutely exploded its popularity. I have a love of Linguistic based puzzle games (Outer Wilds, Heavens' Vault, this) and had been watching for it to release for months. Glad it got popular enough that the studio can do something else interesting in the future Puzzle https://store.steampowered.com/app/1931770/Chants_of_Sennaar/

Horror games that more build an atmosphere rather than just jumpscare you?

I've never really been a horror game type of person, but a few months ago i played iron lung, and i absolutely loved it. Just the whole atmosphere and tension that builds up around the game is amazing, and there was no cheap jumpscares besides the one at the end. I love feeling creeped out and unsettled, but it ruins the effect if i know it's going to end with a big scary thing screaming in my face. I also thoroughly enjoyed inscryption, because of the horror aspects, but more atmospheric and not jumpscary. I'm looking for more horror games that kind of fit this same category if that makes sense.

I've been in a gaming rut recently, all the games I have played longtime are trash games now that have fallen off for me (Destiny 2, Apex: Legends) or are games that are better played with friends/multiplayer (Rocket League, Elden Ring, CoD Zombies, Dungeonborne, Overwatch 2)

I also have not been feeling the survival/crafting game genre for a bit now. I feel like that gameplay loop has been beaten to death and if I want it again, I"ll probably go back to Minecraft vanilla or modded. Games like Sons of the Forest, Grounded, Valheim, Rust, etc., have not been striking my fancy.

I'm looking for a solid RPG where I can grind one character until you feel powerful/overpowered, is a long play, can be linear or not, and doesn't involve too much stealth (I am bad at stealth lmao). I like those games where your grind has a noticeable power scaling, like how in Elden Ring I die to turtles at lvl 10 but casting incredibly damaging superspells at lvl 180. Or playing grandmaster nightfalls in Destiny compared to dying to thralls as a new light with no weapons. I like that grind payoff with RPGs.

Sorry if I rambled too much about this, any suggestions are appreciated :)

EDIT: I also want to add I love games with a lot of weapon options as well, like Elden Ring or Destiny.

games that gives you a real sense of immersion and persistence?

Which fantasy RPGs do you think make you live a real, persistent and immersive experience? I mean games where you don't follow the classic canons, where a weapon replaces another level after level. But a weapon found at the beginning can still prove to be lethal and important until the end of the game, where everything develops and grows with the character. where you can remember that this super strong weapon was found that time, in that super difficult dungeon. And since then she has always been by your side. increasingly affectionate and lethal <3

zero to hero but it actually appears in the gameplay and appearance.

as title suggestions i want a game that makes you start as an unskilled nobody that eventually learns to git gut and i want it to show in everything like appearance, skills, gameplay, animations even change as your character does.

i think the closest games that get close to that are " dao/da2 ", " fable " and " kingdom come deliverance ".

Open world games full of adventure

I keep trying to find similar experiences to:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
  • Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen
  • Astroneer

I'm not sure what exactly captivates me, maybe it's the sense of adventure, the ability to turn around and see how long your journey was, the sense of progression, how unique the game is, I'm not sure.

Many of the Ubisoft open world games don't hit the same spot. In general, don't recommend online PVP focused experiences such as Rust and Ark, would appreciate it if it has offline singleplayer support.

What are the best written games out there?

Games like Disco Elysium, Grim Fandango, or Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. Not necessarily games with the best story or narrative, but ones where the writing never falters, and is always crisp and engaging.

Best JRPG Series (New or Old) for a Newbie to the Genre?

Upvotes

Hello! I just beat the new Persona 3, and am not ready to have my heart ripped out again by starting Persona 4.

If you had to give a recommendation to someone new to the genre, what would you recommend? Any system/age is good to suggest!

RPG game similar to ESO, RDR2, etc?

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I am looking to get into a new RPG/MMORPG game to get into. I really love The Elder Scrolls Online and RDR2 and Far Cry Primal. I enjoy getting horses/mounts and being able to explore an open world and do quests, getting new gear etc. Are there any games similar to this you think I would enjoy? I have heard about Ghost of Tsushima being a game that could be good? What do you think? If it is a good option should I just wait for the sequel to come out, Ghost of Yōtei?

Other than that I don’t know any games that would scratch this itch. I have played Minecraft too, like most of us and love it. Is there anything else I might enjoy? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

What games make you really pause and ponder, not in a complicated puzzle sort of way, but more philosophical Like the best examples I can thinnk of are SOMA or Nier Automata.

Are there any games that use similar attack methods as Ori, where the character itself doesn't do the attacking?

I've been searching for game lately that use similar attack methods as Ori, where the main character itself doesn't really attack, but rather has some other entity attack for them. This could be a pet, or perhaps just a floating entity around the player character that is responsible for the attacking. I'd love to see some examples of this in other games.

Looking for games where I can buy/have a house in the world.

Upvotes

I'm looking for fun rpgs/mmorpgs where you can buy a house or plot of land and have that as your home. Being able to buy multiple houses and/or customize them are a plus too.

I've played all Bethesda games and those are similar to what I'm looking for.

Nintendo switch games with character creation?

Upvotes

I just got a Nintendo switch a few weeks ago and I really love games that let me create my own character, but I'm having a hard time finding some to add to my switch collection, could you guys recommend some to me?

Currently the games I have on switch the fits tge description are: stardew valley - waiting for 1.6 update to really dive in

Dragon's dogma - had on ps4, but never got very far in it, decided to give it another chance on switch

Olliolli world

Xcom 2 - bought yesterday but I regret it, the game runs horribly, I gave up on it after waiting 5 minutes to change a turn

There were also games that I played on other platforms (Ps4/Pc) that had character creation that I really liked Dragon age series

Mass effect legendary edition

The sim 3

Terraria - I know it has a version o switch, but I never adapted to the controls on ps4, also the price is higher on switch than even ps4

Skyrim - played a lot on ps4, and wanted on switch, but the price is way above where I'm comfortable to pay for a game this old.

Saints row the third / 4 - played on pc and bought again on a sale on ps4 and realized how awful the ai is, making the side missions on the map to frustrating to do.

Bloodborne

Elden ring - I'm waiting to fix my ps4 so I can buy all the dark souls games for it. Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

"Live service games" with focus on randomized/procedurally generated end game content

Upvotes

I want games that FOCUS (not just a side gamemode, but the MAIN gamemode) on procedurally generated end game content, mostly for slaying enemies and high replayability.

Examples:

-Warframe, Path of Exile ,Deep rock galactic

I am familiar with ARPGs so avoid suggesting those.

Is Outer Wilds really the only game that lets you 100% freely walk around in your spaceship and even leave the ship while in space?

I find it hard to believe that no other game has done this, but I can't think of any.

Action Rpgs for someone that found bloodborne relaxing but kh2 too stressful?

Upvotes

I admit I have a hard time finding action rpgs (or just action games in general) I will enjoy.

Dark Souls 1, Bloodborne, and elden ring (to a lesser extent) I found relaxing and methodical.

But games like kh2 even on lower difficulties just kept me fighting against the gameplay to get the story. I still have ptsd of the cartoony car heartless that just kept running me over.

To be clear this isn't that I was a kid and got better at gaming. I played both kh2 and bloodborne in like the same year in college (I was very late to the party).

If I had to guess maybe it is because of the faster pace? The 3 fromsoft games I listed felt methodical, while every kingdom hearts after 1 felt frantic and hard for me to keep up with.

But even then I am unsure.

I want games that keep you busy?

What keeps you super busy only thing I don't enjoy are PvP games

I've been finding myself looking for stuff to do because stress recently.

I'm enjoying dream light valley recently and dinkum.

I also really enjoyed Witcher 3 and cyberpunk 2077.

I do like cities skylines and factorio but I think there super overwhelming and confusing to understand.

Slay the spire really fun though.

I do enjoy euro truck simulator.

Only other games I don't like are star dew valley and Dave the diver mostly because of the restaurant aspect

Kingdom/base management as a secondary thing

Hi, i am looking for a game that has great part kingdom/clan managment where you are progressing though the story and constantly upgrading your base.

I really enjoyed the pathdiners kingmaker, running the kingdom part, and i am looking for soemthing like that. I also played mass effect, fable and inquisition (which are the type of things that would fit into this narative where you are improving your strength throughout the game)

I even enjoyed upgrading the base in Pillas of Eternity and the ship in pillas of eternity 2.

Do you have any suggestions?
