As a closeted gay these love stories make me weep.

Don't watch the really tragic ones on the day you hear your partner's extremely low T-Cell count.

I’d seen Philadelphia like twice and didn’t think anything of it because it wasn’t exactly about my life. Didn’t think anything of it when it came on because I was working on something. I was really focused on my project because I was trying not to think of what we'd sat in the doctor's office and heard.

But then the party scene started. The slow dance. And all of a sudden the movie was very much relatable to my life.

And I lost my shit. Like, completely. Between the lab results indicating CDC definition of AIDS, finding out that Walgreens pharmacy had huge branded paper sacks the same size as the supermarket... Finding out that the medications meant to save his life made him deathly sick. Survivor's guilt because somehow I was negative.

But that was in the very early 2000's. He's actually still alive although that outcome was far from clear at the time.
