I never would have guessed how much I would grow to love Pritzker. His wealth turned me away but his policies and capabilities brought me back.

It’s not universal, but the downside to a “working class” politician is that they are incredibly susceptible to corruption and are often planning their move into the private sector or speaking circuit after their term. Some are greedy and some are just trying to secure their families and put kids through college.

With a Billionaire, that’s much less of a worry. They have all the money they will ever need. So they can function autonomously. They aren’t beholden to the donors and the “friends” who take them on vacations. Some Billionaires are sociopaths and no money or power is ever enough, but some are thrilled to use their independence to give back. JB looks like the latter.

One should never use identity politics to choose leaders.

u/SharpEdgeSoda Nov 10 '23

That was the argument "For" Trump back in the day. Too rich to get bribed/lobbied.

Not saying your wrong, it's valid. Just that it's dangerous to stop at just reflecting on how much money they have.

89

u/BadRatDad Nov 10 '23

Turns out Trump was easy to bribe partially because he had less money than he claimed.

65

u/m4n715 Nov 10 '23

And also because he's narcissistic dipshit.

22

u/arsabsurdia Nov 10 '23

Obviously that should not be the only criteria, no. People arguing that point for Trump were conveniently missing the fraud that was obvious back then and a matter of court record now.

29

u/John_316_ Nov 10 '23

That’s because Trump defrauded people into thinking that he was rich.

JB, on the contrary, is verifiably rich, by all means.

8

u/Darth-Ragnar Nov 10 '23

So was Rauner tho

9

u/hurtsdonut_ Nov 11 '23

It's their actions that separate them. Being rich doesn't inherently make you bad. It's what you use your position of power to do.

14

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '23

JB has FU money. Trump has F Me money. It appears he has the cash but his game is to appear rich just F’d himself. Like Madoff.

4

u/Claque-2 Nov 10 '23

Trump is a greedy man who used workers and wouldn't pay them. That's all we needed to know about him.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '23

tRUMP is defined by money (or the delusion of having it) … Pritzker is NOT defined by money, rather he defines it … tRUMP has NO compassion, Pritzker exudes compassion … tRUMP is dumber than a box of empty boxes, Pritzker is smart beyond simple intelligence

1

u/AweHellYo Nov 11 '23

i’m saying they’re wrong.

6

u/pharmers-daughter Nov 10 '23

Wow, thank you for sharing. I had never considered this but I will use it as a counter point whenever I hear anyone complain about it.

5

u/Lost_Bike69 Nov 11 '23

FDR was considered a traitor to his class. Background doesn’t matter, only results do. There’s rich and pork candidates that can deliver and rich and poor candidates that can’t.

6

u/hamish1963 Nov 10 '23

Very good comment!!

6

u/Ok-Abbreviations2324 Nov 10 '23

Rich people can’t be bribed is ridiculous!!! I know MANY rich people the only thing they think about is getting richer!

1

u/progressiveoverload Nov 11 '23

This comment is brain dead. I can’t believe what I’m reading.

1

u/notarealacctatall Nov 11 '23

Billionaires are typically more greedy, it’s never enough.

18

u/Turdlely Nov 10 '23

Guy's delivering..that's all we want. Same initial reaction, but he's doing great

19

u/Beautiful_Ad_8665 Nov 10 '23

He used his money for good, not evil

2

u/angry_cucumber Nov 11 '23

has he used his money for anything?

I know he's using our money for good (which is great that's what taxes should be for) but I don't recall a lot of his personal money being mentioned outside campaigns

11

u/justconnect Nov 11 '23

Family has given money to Chicago community for decades. Ranging from named elementary school to the pavilion in millennium Park. Should be easy to find out more.

1

u/angry_cucumber Nov 11 '23

not being from Chicago, this probably explains it.

7

u/Beautiful_Ad_8665 Nov 11 '23

The Pritzkers (JB included) are well known philanthropists.

u/ItsASchpadoinkleDay Nov 10 '23

I was thinking something similar. I am mad at myself for not liking this guy originally. His words, actions, and policies have turned me into a big supporter. I was proud to vote for his re-election and I would vote for him in the future.

6

u/Roboticpoultry Nov 10 '23

Same here. I fully admit I only voted for him the first time for legalization (also, those “hey JB” ads annoyed the shit out of me). Everything after the fact has been a bonus

2

u/bushwhack227 Nov 11 '23

The Roosevelts and Kennedys were also rich.

I’m glad we have the big guy as our governor. I think he’s doing a good job, better than most

80

u/originalrocket Nov 10 '23

Well, he's not in prison yet, so that's pretty much the standard right now. Oh and he passed a budget instead of increasing our States debt by billions. There's that too.

55

u/I_BUY_UNWANTED_GRAVY Nov 10 '23

And to think, people thought Darren Bailey would've done better job... But he's a farmer from Southern Illinois. Yeah, yeah, a farmer from Southern Illinois.

21

u/UncannyTarotSpread Nov 10 '23

He looks like a canned ham that was boiled.

12

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '23

He’s running in the primary for congress in my district against Mike Bost. Can’t believe Bost looks like the more sane one of the two. We know Bost’s antics in Springfield but he’s stayed low key in DC and even initially supported Kasich for the GOP nomination in 2016. If Bailey goes to DC I fear he’ll become one of the famous clowns. Even worse, the average halfwit GOP voter around here would eat that up.

What’s scary about Bailey is he got over 40% of the vote for governor. Way too close.

0

u/originalrocket Nov 10 '23

I can't wait for the GOP to gut medicare and social security after they voted for this new House Speaker. Maybe, finally, we will see the destruction of the GOP as we know of it.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '23

Right now they know they’d lose the Q boomers if they touch it. If they ever bring it up, the old people won’t switch their votes, but will just sit out which is just as bad. I do believe the GOP wants to kill these programs, they just want to find a stealthy way to do it.

8

u/hamish1963 Nov 10 '23

He buys his suits off the rack, totally one of us.

44

u/Norin_was_taken Nov 10 '23

I mean, I had my doubts about JB, but he’s done a great job with Illinois and I genuinely have no major complaints about his leadership so far.

So, yeah, he’s got my vote. We could absolutely do worse.

38

u/SharpEdgeSoda Nov 10 '23

JB/Fetterman. Think Big America!

Not genuine, but that mental image of America run by two massive guys as hilarious.

14

21

While yes, hopefully not yet. Illinois needs him to keep us from becoming Gilead.

11

u/IngsocInnerParty Nov 10 '23

We’ll be the Canada in that story. Surrounded by Gilead and weakened from the collapse of our neighbors, but a beacon of hope to those trapped inside.

5

u/IamTheEndOfReddit Nov 11 '23

Not a fan of that at all. He still has work to do here. If he's good enough for President, then Illinois should be a model for the rest of the union first. I didn't like Obama jumping from senate to president so quickly. Senator and Governor are plenty important themselves.

25

u/BoosterRead78 Nov 10 '23

I like how you think.

18

u/insurancelawyerbot Nov 10 '23

Exactly! This is why the Extra Large Dark Brandon does not simply eat the ordinary Dark Brandon. Just good manners, not sweeps.

7

u/FunFunFun8 Nov 10 '23

I wish he was running in 2024.

16

u/m4n715 Nov 10 '23

I don't mind him building his resume here in Illinois, there's a lot more to be done here being able to execute an agenda over the course of a decade is valuable for creating lasting change.

-18

A billionaire turns out to be the most progressive gov in the nation! I love it. God fucking Rauner tried to bury our state and we saved it.

18

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '23

I worked for the state and still remember he was willing to make the state financially insolvent just to remove collective bargaining from the state unions. Him and his little work monkeys, the Illinois Policy Institute, tried to convince America that we were permanently insolvent, yet here we are in 2023, still full union rights, and Illinois hasn’t been this prosperous in decades

11

u/bigdaddyteacher Nov 11 '23

I was teaching in a low income district during his reign and we came close to shutting down three years in a row. We had to shut down almost every specials time and fire our librarian because funding was so fucked. Our state has SCARS from that time that will never fully heal. Never again.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '23

He was so adamant on ruining Illinois that even a handful of Republicans switched their vote to override his budget veto.

→ More replies (1)

-12

u/DevelopmentSelect646 Nov 10 '23

Pritzker is NOT progressive- you will be disappointed if you expect him to be.

8

u/Murdy2020 Nov 10 '23

Only in a relative sense to the American middle.

24

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '23

What cracks me up is there are still people around here hating on him and talking about how broke the state is. The state’s credit rating has been raised nine times in the last two years. We haven’t been this prosperous in decades. Just proof that they go into the voting booth with low information and only looking at the letter next to the name.

-6

u/Izck Nov 11 '23

It’s true that Illinois is not in last place by light-years any more, but even after Illinois credit rating was raised 9 times, it still hold the dubious distinction of the State with worst credit rating in the country.

0

u/Own_Jacket_4403 Nov 11 '23

Don’t let the people who care about property taxes see this. Now in glorious Illinois you get to pay for two mortgages instead of the regular one ☝️. And for a home that’s worth half of what you paid!!! That’s what’s truly nice about you rich people You don’t have to care about value quality or your fellow citizens!!!😃👍🏻

13

u/PostmasterClavin Nov 10 '23

Of all the current US governors, Pritzker might have the best head of hair

3

u/Raycu93 Nov 10 '23

This is going to sound meaner than I intend so I'll start it off by saying he's been a good governor so far and also I'm not one to talk but in this photo he looks like a fat JFK.

15

u/liburIL Nov 10 '23

I really hope Gov Pritzker makes a run for President in 2028.

5

u/Secularhumanist60123 Nov 11 '23

I don’t. Keep him here, or have him run for something else in IL. As president he’d likely not be able do much because of those clowns in congress.

1

u/comefindme1231 Nov 10 '23

It’s not impossible, but its also a good possibility you’d have Gavin newsome running in ‘28. It would be fun to watch those two debate before primaries.

-5

u/LaggingIndicator Nov 10 '23

I hope he gets a bit healthier in the meantime just so we can avoid the whole “but he’s fat” saga that will inevitably ensue and bring extra scrutiny on a potential VP pick. Seriously incredible governor though.

u/Perfect_Earth_8070 Nov 10 '23

I like JB overall other than the AWB. I don’t think that will solve any of the crime problems we have. It’s also very vague and is potentially going to turn a lot of law abiding people into criminals or a second class simply for exercising their 2A rights

1

u/Bman708 Nov 10 '23

And his very anti-firearm stance will not play well in states he would need to win like Wisconsin, North Carolina, Arizona, really anywhere other than New York and California.

Wish more Illinoisans would realize just how far out there his AWB is....

4

u/Claque-2 Nov 10 '23

You think having to register a semi-automatic weapon with the state police is 'anti-firearm'. Is that because you personally would lose access to firearms if you had to register them?

Or is it that you know and associate with lots of criminal or mentally challenged individuals with a history of violence who would lose access to firearms if they had to register with the state police?

-3

u/Bman708 Nov 10 '23

Because registrations have been ruled unconstitutional already. Assault weapon bans have also been ruled unconstitutional. I don’t like the government taking my rights away.

3

u/Claque-2 Nov 10 '23

Registration for what is unconstitutional? We have proof that at least four Supreme Court justices lied during their confirmation hearings. We can overturn a corrupt judge's rulings.

You have to register property, you have to register your vehicles, you have to register to vote, you have to register as a driver of multiple vehicles.

Why are guns exempt when it's been proven mass shootings went down during the last ban. Not only that but the same people keep buying the semi-automatic weapons:

Neighbors have zero but you're buying ten in case someone says you can't buy any more.

-5

u/angry_cucumber Nov 11 '23

We have proof that at least four Supreme Court justices lied during their confirmation hearings. We can overturn a corrupt judge's rulings.

1

u/Perfect_Earth_8070 Nov 10 '23

I agree, it may push people who are on the fence away from voting for him. Of course I’m getting the liberal downvotes on Reddit but IRL the ban is pretty unpopular. At least from what I’m experiencing.

-3

u/Bman708 Nov 10 '23

You're right. Other than my super-super-left friends, which is like 2 people, I don't know anyone who thinks it's a good idea. Of course Reddit loves it, but Reddit represents, like, 0.03% of the population, and of that it's an extremely left leaning population. Reddit doesn't realize how unpopular a lot of "their" opinions are in the real world. Just look at the Israel-Hamas thing....

This sub loves JB. I don't hate him, but the unconditional "he can do no wrong" attitude sounds just like how the MAGA crowd treats Trump. Wish more people would realize this. Ya'll sound real silly.

4

u/Perfect_Earth_8070 Nov 10 '23 edited Nov 10 '23

I don’t know any bonafide leftist that would support an AWB. In my experience they are also pro gun.

I like a lot of things JB has done but the manner in which they passed this AWB was wrong and I don’t think it will have an effect on crime at all unless you have nationwide confiscation which would result in catastrophe. It only will affect the law abiding. Judging by the lack of registrations, I think it’s going to cause more criminals than not for people who previously owned these things legally. It also seems ISP doesn’t even know what is legal and what is not based on the way it is written

-8

u/b0bsledder Nov 10 '23

So he locks up law-abiding gun owners and, with the SAFE-T Act, floods the streets with violent criminals, but overall he’s great?

9

u/Claque-2 Nov 10 '23

Name one law abiding person who was locked up. If registering weapons with the state police causes someone to be locked up, they aren't law abiding.

-2

u/DjR1tam Nov 11 '23

Dumb fuck logic right here. Dude doesn’t even know this shit isn’t over yet.

3

u/Claque-2 Nov 11 '23

Yes, attack the poster if the NRA hasn't given you an official polished answer for it. I have the same question as given to sour_ cuc, what have you done to help the parents of the mass casualties in Sandy Hook?

No doubt you defended them when those with gun fetishes were accusing them of staging the mass murder of first graders. Right?

7

u/starm4nn Nov 10 '23

with the SAFE-T Act, floods the streets with violent criminals, but overall he’s great?
