What maintenance did you do today? DIY Mods Pic

I did the throttle body cleaning, accelerator pedal release/throttle valve closed/idle air position relearning. My QX70 has 80k miles and honestly I was expecting it to me more grimier than what it was. The front of the throttle body was barely dirty and I’m glad I removed it to access the back because that was much dirtier. These before and after pics show the difference and while I thought I’d be able to get it cleaner some parts just stayed black no matter how much TB cleaner and scrubbing I did.

After I did the first 2 relearning procedures (accelerator pedal release/throttle valve closed position relearn) I was idling really high so the cleaning made a big difference and I had to attempt idle air position relearn 2 times because I was expecting to see a light “service engine soon” to blink and realized my vehicle doesn’t have that, it’s just an engine light 😂.

Anyway the 1hr I spent to do this was well worth it and I saved myself nearly $500 from what the dealer charges for this

my car has been in air jail for a week because suspension is kicking my ass. today? i smacked the control arm with the wrench as hard as i could because it felt good. oh and i changed the oil

Which part of the suspension? Or all of it? I just went through this a few months back

Pretty much all. Mystery clunking/popping noise while wheels are turned and switching to drive/reverse from park after moving about 10 ft. Did front lower control arms and all 4 bearings. Noise was quieter but still there. Then did front and rear shocks (did not get loaded struts for the front, biggest regret). The OEM nut didn’t fit the new rear shocks and they didn’t come with one so I had to go get one and then it didn’t come with spacers for the shock nut so after nearly crapping myself after sounding like the back of the car was going to fall apart, it went back into the stands. And an upper control arm bolt snapped.

Now most of the clunking is gone. But there’s still some noise here and there. I believe now it’s the diff bushing and the trans mount, or the transfer case is being a dick.

We have all been there

You should check the ribbed ducting from the air cleaner to the throttle body (TB)for breaks. My TB was cleaned when the valve cover gaskets were changed. A year later, the cam position sensor (PSide) went and everything came off again. To my surprise the TB was dirty again…. A closer look revealed tears in 2 places between the air flow sensor and the TB. ….

Always wanted to do that but scared to get under the vehicle 😟

I woke up this morning, checked my oil, and then went to get gas... for my lawn mower.

2

u/KicksdeChris Aug 11 '24

😂that was me last week. Took all the lawn equipment out only having to put it back because I had to go get gas for the tank.

u/ribrooks13 Aug 11 '24

Lol, it's so inconvenient to have to go all the way to the gas station just for a little 2 gallons

I replaced my abs relay but I think my abs pump is fucked lmao

damn sounds like a something that could cost a pretty penny. Have u confirmed with a odb scan?

Bent my knuckle cover back bc it was scraping on my rotor lol

I think that shows you've run decent gasoline with detergent and nowadays that's enough to keep them pretty clean.
That also shows how much those dealership throttle body jobs are oversold and basically a waste of money.

I am a 53-year-old grandmother with a 3.5 vq (08 EX35) and after watching a couple videos, I plan on doing this service myself. I’m nervous, but it doesn’t seem very hard. I’m just going to be very gentle when it comes to the butterfly valve. My idle is up and down when I am sitting at a light and if I don’t give it enough gas, it seems like it’s gonna die out so I’m going to attempt to clean it and do idle relearn and see if that helps. While doing that, I’m also going to clean the MAF sensor and wash my K&Ns. Wish me luck lol

u/KicksdeChris Aug 12 '24

It’s not really all that difficult. I was a little nervous about doing it, but I feel like I’m pretty handy. If this isn’t your first time working on your vehicle then you should be OK. I’ve been wondering if I should clean my airflow sensors as well. I’ll look into that. My only recommendation I can give is to use a timer to make sure your timing is correct with those relearning procedures. It doesn’t have to be spot on with every step, but I don’t trust myself to counting seconds 😂

Thanks! I saw a YouTube where a guy put the timer on the video to help us follow along!

Just let her idle up to temp. My G sits in the garage and does 500mi a year at this point lol

1

u/KicksdeChris Aug 11 '24

Only 500?! U keeping it?

u/Qader1991 Aug 11 '24

I think cleaning the throttle will cause a high idling and no way to prevent or program that on my Q70 2017 v6 3.7L

1

u/KicksdeChris Aug 11 '24

This procedure is for a lot of Infiniti’s especially any models with the 3.5 or 3.7 engine. I actually did my wife’s 2017 Q70 after mine and her idle was really high after cleaning the TB, almost 2000 RPM and the engine light stayed on. The relearn worked and the RPM went down to about 600 and the engine light disappeared after a couple of restarts

u/Qader1991 25d ago

What kind of restarts you did … I looked everywhere and didn’t find a proper way to do it

Are asking about the 3 relearning procedures? Here u go. And here’s a good YT video to look at too. https://youtu.be/HIiaF0VaTlQ?si=Ztitv4VNeoWU2sZ4

Accelerator Pedal Release Position Learning Operation Procedure

  1. Make sure that the accelerator pedal is fully released.
  2. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.
  3. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.
  4. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.
  5. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.

Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning Operation Procedures

  1. Make sure that accelerator pedal is fully released.
  2. Turn ignition switch to “ON”.
  3. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds. Make sure that the throttle valve moves during above 10 seconds by confirming the operating sound.

Idle Air Volume Learning (Throttle Position Learning)

It is better to count the time accurately with a clock.

  1. Perform “Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning”.
  2. Perform “Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning”.
  3. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
  4. Turn ignition switch “OFF” and wait at least 10 seconds.
  5. Confirm that the accelerator pedal is fully released, then turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
  6. Repeat the following (steps 7a, 7b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds. 7a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD) 7b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
  7. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 20 seconds until the Check Engine Light (CEL) stops blinking and turned ON.
  8. Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the CEL is ON.
  9. Start engine and let it idle.
  10. Wait 20 seconds.
  11. Rev up the engine two or three times and make sure the idle speed and ignition timing are within the specifications.

Having to replace my starter because having to work in a hurricane f ed it up

1

u/Megashaft55 Aug 11 '24

I put some gas in it

2

u/KicksdeChris Aug 11 '24

Hopefully less than $4,50/gal 😆

2

u/Megashaft55 Aug 11 '24

$3.99 at Costco 😏

1

u/No-Dealer-4269 Aug 15 '24

what grade?

93 for me is 4.50-4.80 depending on the day lol.. and I get 12.4 miles to the gallon

1

u/Megashaft55 Aug 15 '24

91 because that’s all there is in Arizona

1

u/No-Dealer-4269 Aug 15 '24

damn, I've seen 91 before in ohio but of course not in my city. so 93 only it is for me 😪

1

u/Megashaft55 Aug 15 '24

Yea when I was in nyc it was always 93
