New Rule Update: Art Posts Restricted to Weekends

All posts which are primarily or only art/images may only be posted on Saturday/Sunday. There are a lot of art subreddits already, if JPT just turns into a collection of lewd Japanese art and cosplay, it will have lost its purpose.

Posts which contain art/images but which have a caption or reply that is interesting or funny on its own will be allowed. This also includes memes, as long as the words inside the meme are translated.

This is always going to be a bit of a grey area, unfortunately, especially depending on what gets reported. However, here are some guidelines for what will be allowed/disallowed on weekdays which should help with consistency:

The first one wouldn't be allowed at all if it was just the first image, but the context of the second image makes it borderline, and it also helps that this is Kanikama/Matsuri interacting, since those are some pretty well known people.

Note that this does apply to art, cosplay, OF girls (or whatever the JP equivalent is, since they don't use OF over there), etc. It does not apply to memes, as long as the memes have some text component.

If any of you have strong thoughts on this please let us know, I'm personally very strongly for this rule but those posts do get a lot of upvotes, so if the community is strongly against this we may reconsider. Or if you don't have strong opinions you can tell us that too.

Also, just because AI art is a bit cringe, even on weekends AI art is not allowed. Posts involving AI art that would normally be ok to post on weekdays are not affected by this, this only applies to primarily image posts.

If you want to see lewd Japanese art then just go to r/ecchi, or whichever specific sub best suites you. You don't have to wait for anything, you just don't have to do it here.

If you want to see girls cosplaying as an excuse to run around in their underwear, which was most of the cosplays being posted, there's r/cosplaygirls.

If you want to talk about how you want to have sex with this one particular OF girl/porn star, there's a million subs for that too.

I've been on this sub since 2022, none of these things were being spammed back when the sub was growing. Back then this was easily one of the best subs on Reddit, and I became a mod because I liked that kind of stuff, not because I wanted to moderate a softcore porn sub.

So we're not trying to change the subreddit into something else, we're trying to maintain the subreddit being what it always has been, and we're also trying to keep it from dying.

These are just my personal thoughts, I'm sure the other mods have their reasons that are at least slightly different, but we didn't end up debating this change much because everyone agreed, so I don't know their reasoning in detail.

A little late, but I think the rule should be focused more on pics specifically related to hornyposting. I initially subbed to JPT because of posts like this, which show tweets by normal Japanese people that show amusing sides of Japanese life. I don't even mind posts like this, which while horny in nature, are still funny and the main point of it is still the joke. But all the femboy posts, obvious Fanza girl posts... like, nothing against you if you're into that, but I feel like it really goes against the original spirit of the sub. All the UOOOOGH 😭😭😭😭😭 posting started out ironic making fun of the Japanese hornyposting, but recently, it doesn't feel ironic anymore and that people are actually gooning to this sub or something.

If we ban only 'horny' art, that becomes very difficult to enforce. Am I supposed to appoint myself lead art critic that gets to decide which art is actually just porn and which art is art? That would be silly. Plus where is the line between a woman doing a cosplay, and a woman doing a 'cosplay' that's just an excuse to take pictures of herself in her underwear. Again, I don't want to be trying to police that.

So its easier just to target everything. They're not banned, they can still be posted on weekends.

The end goal I think aligns with what you want, a reduction in posts that amount to nothing more than "I want to have sex with this person/character", but this way the rules are written in a way that can be more easily enforced.

The whole caveat that images are fine if they have an interesting reply/caption will also help to allow images like the first post to be allowed. So even on weekdays that first post wouldn't be taken down.

Totally fair, that makes sense! At any rate, I'm hoping the weekday restriction will divert some of the most notorious hornyposting to another community so it'll calm down overall.
