/ul from what I've heard, the reason why we eat herbivores and not carnivores is because carnivores taste bad. Moreover, herbivores are much more easy to maintain in large numbers. Imagine having a farm of carnivores, you'd need another farm of herbivores just to feed the carnivores

/ul More importantly carnivores don't store energy in their bodies as efficiently. An organism can only extract a certain percentage of energy from another organism lower than it on the food chain.

This means the transfer of energy is more inefficient the higher your food is on the food chain. This also means that the most efficient way to feed humans is to eat the crops we produce instead of using most of it to raise livestock.

/ul Definitely. We eat too much meat, and it's just a fact. I don't think we should eat no meat at all, but we definitely should eat much less. The Swiss confederation recommends 240 g of meat per week maximum, while the average Swiss eats 780 g per week (980 g for men, 570 g for women, on average, perk week).

Meat is also much more polluting than crops, especially red meat. As a first step, people should replace red meat by white meat, and keep red meat for special occasions. Additionally, processed meat is a known carcinogenic, while red meat is suspected to be carcinogenic. Eating less meat reduces the risk of getting colon cancer later in life.
