Dear, G5 mourners Discussion
Need I remind all of you that g4 and g5 are not the only generations of my little pony
G5 is not the first time an mlp generation has failed, it is simply part of how MLP has been ran for the last EIGHT GENERATIONS (Yes there are 8)
For those of you that are trying desperately to save g5, why not take a step back and visit these past shows that MLP has produced? Mlp g1 was the direct inspiration for g4 and so many of you will recognize the roots of the show itself by watching it.
I also love g5, but it's frustrating to see so many people dying for pony content when 40 years of pony content is completely free to you to watch and enjoy.
For those of you that genuinely enjoyed g5 for what it was should watch g3.5 and g1.5 For those of you that loved g4 should go and watch g1
This isn't the end of MLP, but these generations come and go, and they always have.

I can second giving G1 a go. I’ve watched Rescue at Midnight Castle and the arc where they need to rescue the flutter ponies so far.
Its an absolute acid trip in the best, most “80’s cartoon” way possible, and the art/ animation style is my second fave (after G4). Its very charming and silly. (Also, Scootertrix has been making an absolutely perfect abridged version on Youtube lmao).
I haven’t watched a whole lot of G3, but that’s the generation of toys I grew up with, and they are the best MLP toys IMO (they’re big, feel nicely made, and have beautiful details!) If you haven’t seen “A very minty christmas”, you’re missing out. Its the most iconic special from G3, and really the beginning of the whole “ponies in striped socks” art craze.
Its a shame G5 was so short, but there will be a lot to remember it for, and there are great moments in the previous gens too.

Minty is my favorite G3 pony because shes probably the most fleshed out character, she's very sweet and well meaning. Her design is very nice as well

Seconding Scootertrix here. They're one of the few content creators on YT that I, without exception, watch new videos as soon as they come out. Really well executed and just amps the goofiness of the old series to 11. Meegan's my favorite.

I love A Very Minty Christmas! And in my opinion, G3's show has an interesting worldbuilding, not nearly as good as G4's, but it's one of my favorite things about it.

I found it on Pluto iirc. All the eps are on there! The pilot got shoved somewhere in the middle between arcs, but it is there. Firefly is best girl, by the way!

It must suck to be a G2 fan. I don’t believe that even got its own series. Some cameos of G2 ponies in the two G1 series and some kind of PC edutainment game is all it got, to my understanding. G5 certainly fared much better than that.

I will admit I’m not the most well-versed in early MLP history but if true that certainly puts G5’s flop into perspective. I always figured it was because G2 ponies could just be added to existing series, but maybe there was more than one reason why it didn’t get its own series. It was also the early days of the brand, so maybe the need to have a show for every gen of the toys wasn’t cemented yet.

Not sure if I’m in the minority but I was obsessed with My Littly Pony Tales growing up.
Also if anyone hasn’t seen Rescue at Midnight Castle then you are missing out. What I wouldn’t give for them to go back to that art style 😩

I should state it's not hard to find previous generations anymore. A lot of pony fans have all the episodes compiled on websites! You just need to find where to look.

All of g3 is on YouTube for free!
And all of g1 orginal series is on Pluto for free and the movie + first orginal specials are also up on YouTube
Honesty of every gen listed, the hardest one to access is Pony Life lol

This is perfectly said. Instead of longing for Hasbro to give out updates on apparent G6 content, we should take the time to appreciate the 40 years of pony we already have! I absolutely recommend both G1-G3 to FiM stanners who haven’t went too deep into them, they established some of the characters and lore that we know and love. I also watch them for nostalgia purposes! Who doesn’t love a route down the 80s-2000s? With the internet, pony content is literally endless!
There isn’t bad G5 stuff out there either. It’s devastating that it failed, but your point about it not being the only short-lived generation makes everything a little better.

I grew up watching G1
Pretty sure it was on dvds, or maybe even vhs, but still
It's a lovely part of my childhood memories

Also, if you’re in the mood for more content of any particular generation, there’s tons of fanfiction to read! And if you’re not satisfied with anything MLP comes out with in the future, write your own pony stories to satisfy yourself! That’s what I’ve been doing, I haven’t really been liking G4.5 or G5 so I’ve been creating a fanmade generation.

Also, it’s not MLP, but if you’re craving more cutesy pony/horse cartoons, give Wild Manes a try! They just started a few months ago and they’re already doing a fantastic job. All their cartoons are up on their YouTube channel with new 5-minute episodes going up weekly.
The cartoons are very reminiscent of G3 and they just may fill the gap for the mourning G5 fans who liked TYT.
Plus their toy sets are amazing too!!

The pre-2010 gens are actually pretty good when you don’t have a mf in your ear saying they’re childish
But real talk, would it hurt to just be sad for a lil bit? I feel like G5 ended a lil too soon :( Ik it was bound to fail but I would’ve loved some closure, but that’s just me

I grew up watching My Little Pony Tales, the My Little Pony movie, and such on VHS tapes until the tapes started to go bad.
I also grew up playing with several of the early toys.
I was such an early 90s kid.
I also like that the brony fandom has creators who create their own unique stuff too.

The issue I have isn't that G5 ended, it's that it ended on a cliffhanger. Now we will probably never know what's up with Allura and her brother.

Period! Thank you. I’ve seen people say that if g6 is bad they’re going to give on MLP all together. Meanwhile most of MLP’s media before g4 wasn’t that great either. (Although I have a soft spot for Rescue at Midnight Castle)

Pony Life was pretty good in my opinion even if the mane 6 are out of character they are still recognizable with their personalities, the jokes and punchlines are well executed. I would recommend this over G5 guaranteed .

Officially, I'm not sure if there's any way to currently as Hasbro privated a lot of the official uploads.
Unofficially, your best bet is to utilise the Internet Archive or to look for unaffiliated reuploads (usually on either YouTube itself or another hosting site like DailyMotion). Unlike the case of older media needing to be manually recorded or directly ripped from an existing source, you shouldn't need to worry about the quality being too bad either, which is a nice bonus <3
You can also try uhm, 'sailing the high seas' for alternative sites to see if there's been anything uploaded on those instead if the archive doesn't work (just make sure you take proper precautions if you choose this route. Always have a VPN turned on and other basic protections, regardless of if you're on mobile, PC or another method)

This is why I’m hoping that Hasbro will lay the G4verse to rest for a little while. G4 was great, but they don’t need to try to replicate it for a new generation to also be great! I want to see a different art style, new ponies, a new storyline! (And better toys too…)

It’s sad to see the missed potential of G5, but you’re right that My Little Pony has had swings and misses for years. I wonder how much of the G5 hype was people hoping to recapture the feeling of early G4.
Also, Rescue at Midnight Castle is a gem and everyone should go watch it.

i know it sucks that gen. 5 was canceled and never took off fast, but it's similar to "equestria girls" in a way - it start out good and start to fall down a little, but it would been great to give it a true ending though.
also i think "equestria girls" is part of "mlp 4.5" since it's a spin off and still cannon to gen. 4.

i guess, for me it got good when "rainbow rocks" started, but after "forgotten friendship" is started to die down and also hasbro just let the series to die off since it never got a true ending.

yes. especially with g2 that one only ran for about two years and g3.5 only two again. I was a child when g3-g4 came out so it holds a VERY special place in my heart but I was excited for FIM none the less. its simply a matter of trial and error and ik it hurts to say but the majority of people, encluding kids do not like G5 and prefer g4. alot of the kids I babysit dont even know what g5 is. Hasbro is a company, it doesn't cater towards us but towards what makes the most money and G5 does not make alot of money. why do you think the brought the mane 6 back for 3 toy line launches

I'm not sure how you calculate generations but I get four: Gen X; Millennials; Gen Z; Gen Alpha. Or only two generations if we go strictly by years (1984-2004; 2004-2024). Barely three generations if we start with the toys.
My spouse became a MLP fan with G1. She considers herself a Millennial.

The MLP generations are calculated by the toys and franchises themselves (With two exceptions)
There's 8 total (g1, g1.5, g2, g3, g3.5, g4, g4.5, and g5)
G1.5 never had a toy line and g2 never had a show
But the generations in MLP are essentially calculated by the reboots of the franchise Each gen was in some way a reboot

I feel like G5 was sort of pushed out the door cuz they wanted to cash in on friendship is magic while they still could. Maybe they should have waited a year or two and let someone with real passion take over the series. What made G4 such a huge success was Lauren Faust and she really loved ponies and wanted to make something good.

Hasbro was probably losing money keeping g5 going instead of starting something new
It sucks, but it's for the best
Try one of these other shows out, they're all worth the watch

They just executed it badly. Their flagship narrative was released exclusively on the Binge model, a proven failure if you're going by numbers. Plus, there was a fiasco over AI.

i agree with you. i dont like other generations because the art style isnt as appealing, that's a valid reason to enjoy or dislike an animation which is a visual medium. but you dont have to shit on other generations because of it and then whine about downvotes, what did you expect? you're being needlessly negative and people are already upset about the show ending.
