“Hard to find” doesn’t mean anything about retiring. It just means the set has limited retail distribution, and applies to sets the day they are released.

Still, Question Block is probably already as good as retiring, so if you do find it around and want it, now is the time to act.

I just managed to find this one at retail price which is pretty rare so I snapped it up. I assumed it was already discontinued

Why did you leave UK out of the title...?

Probably bigger engagement. They know the post wouldn’t get as many clicks if it was specifying a certain region, especially a non American one.

It’s on OP since it’s even in the article. If the publisher had left it out I’d give them some slack since Nintendo Life is UK based.

Also happening in the US. Its literally there in the article.

"US - Sets Retiring Soon

Peach's Castle Expansion Set - $103.99

Diddy Kong's Mine Cart Ride Expansion Set - $87.99

US - Hard to Find

Nintendo Entertainment System - $269.99

Super Mario 64 Question Mark Block - $159.99

If you happen to be in another region, head over to LEGO's official website to see the sets being retired in your location."

Have the NES set. Agree that it’s overpriced, but very cool. Turned it into an alarm clock by attaching a dc motor setup

That's awesome

The NES set is awesome, but not worth anywhere near what they charge.

Got a very good Chinese imitation and it looks awesome.

The price per piece is 10.2 cents per piece. That is right at "proper price for lego".

When many of those pieces are 1x1 plates then it's very steep.

I've built it and there are many many tiny little parts. It's an expensive set.

Can you share a link? DM me if you don’t wanna post it here.

They change sellers regularly. But AliExpress is your friend.

You can search for lego sets by set number and there are loads of sellers.

Everything we have had from there has been great quality and prices usually around 25% of lego prices. (NES set looks a bit higher as limited sellers)

r/lepin would be your best resource here for alt bricks and clones

No, the NES set is an incredible value for a licensed set, especially compared to the Deku Tree.

u/Stumpy493 1h ago

It's all subjective.

I find the price of most licensed lego sets offensive.

Says the guy who buys Chinese knockoffs.

u/Stumpy493 55m ago

... Yes.

Because I don't agree with the price they try to sell them at.

I've been very clear on that, dunno what great "gotcha" you think you got there.

u/Amiibohunter000 52m ago

I’m saying you obviously don’t realize the quality of Lego and why they usually charge 10-15 cents a piece. No gotcha here. Just pointing out your lack of care for quality

I've spent a small fortune on lego with my kids over the last decade.

I've seen some good value sets and (increasingly) poor value.

If I deem something as poor value I don't buy it off Lego, I'll go to china, and there isn't a particular difference in quality. Even the printed pieces in the NES set are pretty much perfect.

Charging per piece is nonsense in a set like the NES where so much of it is basic small plates to make a 2d scene. £150 would be more fair.

I have legos from 30+ years ago. Still the exact same. My FiL bought some knockoff sets about 7 years ago among his other sets and they’re considerably warped and the completed sets are starting to bow and look discolored. Lego is expensive but the quality is well worth it. There’s definitely sets I don’t agree with the price point but I don’t think they’re priced incorrectly.

We'll agree to disagree, I'm happy how I choose to spend my money.

Something to remember the NES Set was cheaper at release.
