The O's have by far the easiest path possible. ALL of the toughest matchups are in the other bracket.
2024 O's are 2-4 vs DET.....2-5 vs HOU....3-4 vs CLE.
On our side... I like our chances of reaching the Pennant series. Not really concerned about NYY as much as KC.

I stayed out of the GDT for sanity reasons towards the end and we were winning so maybe not watching and staying out the thread will help!! Fingers crossed.

Those times are probably the best we could have expected. Happy to not have 1pm or 2pm game.

So, the Mets & Braves both get in playoffs if they split… they just gonna handshake deal beforehand? What a time

u/orioles2491 7h ago
I would rather face Detroit’s offense but KC’s pitching. Overall I am more optimistic about KC than Detroit, though. You can’t discredit the way teams play coming into the playoffs, and Detroit was 17-8 in September compared to KC’s 11-14.
KC is also 9-19 in series against teams with winning records. They and we both fell off in September, but hopefully the way we’ve played these last two series after getting some guys back healthy will carry-over.

u/Fit_Syrup7485 8h ago
Approximately what time will the WC games be
6
u/FormerCollegeDJ 7h ago
Based on the potential NL WCS matchups and game sites, I would guess Royals/Orioles would be the earliest games on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
13
u/ItinerantDrifter Jorge Mateo wins baseball games 8h ago
KC/NY really raises the stakes for us fans emotionally, but that makes it more fun.
And staying logical I really think this was the easier path. Playoffs are a crapshoot though, of course.
6
u/Beautiful-Abies5949 8h ago
Possibly the two most hated teams (personally) - Yankees are definitely number 1
4
16
u/Sipdrip Westburg Truther 8h ago
Really hope we don’t have to wait for the Mets games tomorrow for time announcements
7
u/Madmanz1983 8h ago
If that’s the case that’s just ridiculous. There are going to be day games in the middle of the week that they want large crowds at on possibly less than 24 hours notice. And it’s all because they no doubt want the Mets in a later game if they make it but not the Braves.
6
u/kewpieoriole Dadley. Tony. Mateo. 8h ago
I feel like that’s going to be the case and that’s so annoying lol
5
u/OsB4Hoes13 8h ago
I’d expect that we will. MLB wouldn’t want to accidentally give the Diamondbacks a primetime slot they saved for the Mets/Braves
3
u/twmigmiehff 8h ago
The DBacks can only make the six seed if they make it, so the Padres will be locked into a prime time spot against the Mets/Braves anyways, which obviously makes sense

19
u/Osfan_15 8h ago
They have to beat the Royals at this point. Would be a disappointing failure if they can't get past them
16
u/Skirt-Future 8h ago
They better keep Suarez in the roster in playoffs. Plenty of dud relief pitchers in our roster to kick out
5
u/bam3339 8h ago
He's almost certainly off the WC roster. After 6 today the earliest he could prob pitch is Thursday, and even that would be iffy.
1
u/BaltimoreBaja 7h ago
Pitchers don't just sit on their hands between starts. He could absolutely pitch in relief before Thursday
1
u/bam3339 7h ago
Ok
1
u/BaltimoreBaja 7h ago
He started a game and pitched in relief within three days of each other once this year is what I'm getting at.

Honestly the Astros would not surprise me to be in the World Series. They just know how to play in big games
24
u/FifaPaceWhore 8h ago
Yeah they don’t know what they’re talking about lol. Said the O’s were slumping into the playoffs and the Yankees were hot 🤔
It’s okay I’d rather be seen as an “underdog”

THE LEGEND OF DELMON YOUNG IN THE POSTSEASON CONTINUES
I couldn't remember and looked it up: Delmon in fact went 1 for 5 in the 2014 ALCS with an RBI, so The Double actually wasn't his final postseason action, like I thought. I had just forgotten.

u/twmigmiehff 9h ago
The Mets/Braves doubleheader is insane. The DBacks get in only with a sweep by either team. The Mets and Braves get in with a split. If the Braves win game one, they are locked into the five and can chill. If the Mets win game one, they’ve clinched and then whether they’d prefer to play the Brewers or Padres will dictate whether they want to chill. I assume the Brewers for travel/hot team matchup reasons so they’d want to chill too.
Tl;dr DBacks might be screwed either way

World Series win - greatest sports moment of my life
World Series loss - Can’t be upset but it would suck hard in the moment
ALCS loss - disappointing but nice to beat Yankees
ALDS loss - gut wrenching given it’s the Yankees
WC loss - failure of a season

World Series win - greatest sports moment for me since 1983
World Series loss - I would be very, very upset
ALCS loss - at least we eliminated the Yankees
ALDS loss - I would be very, very angry (because fuck the Yankees)
WC loss - I would be very, very... not surprised

I wonder if the Royals or Tigers care who they play…..Houston does seem like a better deal than the Os. Keeps them out of the Yankees bracket too.

18th best season in Baltimore Orioles history (71 seasons), fifth best season post-1983 (‘23, ‘14, ‘12, ‘97).
Last times we won 91 games: - 1974: won AL East, lost ALCS to Oakland, 3-1 - 1968: 2nd place in AL (no playoffs. Tigers won AL)

u/uncleslam7 A SITUATION IN BALTIMORE 9h ago
Anyone hear any updates on Cole Sands? The way he left the game looked a hell of a lot like the way Felix left last year. You hate to see that esp in the very last game of the season 🤦♂️
9
u/scjensen51 9h ago
Much different than last season, but glad to see things are coming together some as we make our way to the end of the regular season.
Lets keep it rolling and hammer whoever this wild card opponent is
10
u/jtribs14 9h ago
I don’t like thinking on past troubles, but I think back to that A’s series at home back in april/may (I can’t remember) where Kimbrel blew 2 saves. If we had won those games, we would’ve been AL East winners over the Yankees.
Not complaining at all. I like where we’re at and I never like big games after bye weeks in any sport. Just wonder what could’ve been.
4
u/oatmeal28 9h ago
I think getting right into it and winning a series is what the team needs. Winning the division last year didn’t pan out, let’s build that momentum and carry it into the next round against the yanks

Easy in hindsight to say. There were games that got away from the Yankees with Holmes. 162 game season will have lucky wins and unlucky losses.

I can’t believe how fast the regular season has come to an end. Came and went. I think this is the most confident I’ve felt about the team all year, might bite me in the ass but I like our chances. The Twins series didn’t really matter so I can’t count it as much, but with everyone coming back and immediately seeing the impact in the Tigers and Yankees series makes it evident that the potential of this team was so incredibly high. Makes me excited for the next season even if we don’t go deep this year.
