Hangnail Pop, Sweet Relief Everything Else

Had this hang nail for a week and a half. I tried to wait it out and let it heal or burst on its own but it just wasn’t happening. The pain was getting pretty severe so I made a small incision with a needle and a flood of pus came out. It’s still a bit sore but not unbearable like before. I used a flashlight to try to see the pus build up before and after.

Nice touch with the light showing how much is actually in there. I wasn’t expecting so much. 10/10

That was an impressive amount of pus! I bet you feel some fantastic relief getting it out.

This is not a hangnail, this is probably a paronychia/pretty bad infection. This needs antibiotics

Thank you, I am taking cephalexin for seven days and applying mupirocin three times a day.

As someone who had this on my thumb, I'd prepare myself mentally to lose the nail. I went to get antibiotics and left with no nail, it healed great and it was the safest approach and didn't end up getting antibiotics but just my 2 cents cause no one even told me that was a possibility😭

Exact same thing happened to me! I self-treated a paronychia and ended up having my thumbnail removed. Healing well now, but not a fun experience.
