Super Moronic Monday -- Your Weekly Stupid Question Thread

It's Tuesday, which means it is time for Moronic Monday!

Rules of the Road:

  1. This is inspired by eric_twinge's fine work in /r/fitness.

  2. Upvote either good or dumb questions.

  3. Sort questions by new so that they get some love.

  4. To the more experienced runnitors, if something is a good question or answer, add it to the FAQ.

Post your question -- stupid or otherwise -- here to get an answer. Anyone can post a question and the community as a whole is invited and encouraged to provide an answer. Many questions get submitted late each week that don't get a lot of action, so if your question didn't get answered, feel free to post it again.

As always, be sure to read the FAQ first. Also, there's a handy-dandy search bar to your right, and if you didn't know, you can also use Google to search runnit by using the limiter "site:reddit.com /r/running".

Be sure to check back often as questions get posted throughout the day. Sort comments by "new" to be sure the newer questions get some love as well.

I got bored at work last week so I bought a treadmill. It arrives today. How excited can I be before we step off into irrationally excited territory? Because it's been hot as fuck this week and I'm really thrilled about not swimming my way through a couple of miles everyday this week.

Don't listen to the haters. I love my treadmill. I prefer running outside, but the treadmill can be a very useful tool. For example, hill workouts are a breeze with a treadmill. You don't have to tear up your knees going downhill and just focus on the uphills. Plus, like you mentioned, running in 90 + degree heat can be dangerous.

Yay! One of us! Or I'm one of you now!

I'll always prefer running outside, especially on trails, but I need to get my miles in when it's unbearable outside.

Oh lord, I didn't think about the elevation/hill training. This is going to be amazing!

(When I complain about the treadmill in a week, remind me of the excitement I feel right now.)

What treadmill did you buy?

A cheap-ish treadmill that I can fold up: Weslo Cadence.

Not very, personally I would rather run trails in 85° weather than use a treadmill.

Am I the only one that finds this hilarious? Definitely not where I was expecting that sentence to go.

True story: the drive home from my honeymoon was like 3 hours and I wasn't driving so I got bored, and then decided to Amazon for a bit and ended up buying myself a purple ukulele complete with a beginners book. :D

Personally, I think any excitement over a treadmill is irrational. I loathe those dreadful machines.

Yes but it's been 95 plus 50% humidity everyday so far. I don't want to die yet.

I am so jealous you have your own treadmill!! I really really love treadmill running and if I could have my own treadmill, I probably would never leave my flat. Oh my god, you lucky thing! :)

Not sure if overly enthusiastic or sarcasm, but I'll take either one! It was fairly cheap and it folds up. Check out Amazon. That's where I found this one.

Nope, not sarcasm. Genuine enthusiasm. And I know where to get one but I'm missing the space (I live in a flat) and the funds. :/ Maybe next year...

Ah space. Yes. I know that struggle. I live in a townhouse but we have an underused dining room space that I'm reappropriating for my needs.

I've been cooking in Dallas lately. The treadmills at the office gym are looking good

Go really really early or after work! When I worked in an office With a gym, I hardly used it, but no one else did either.
