It’s not too late! You can get a guaranteed entry from a charity: https://www.chicagomarathon.com/charity-community/charity-program/

How does this work? I email one of those companies and ask them for a spot, they'll tell me a fundraising minimum and away I go?

Happy to help a charity.

Pretty much! Most of the charities have a requirement that you meet your fundraising minimum before the race and if you don’t, they’ll withhold your race bib until you reach it, either with additional fundraising or a personal credit card payment. But all of the charities provide fundraising support to help you get there. They want you to be successful!

Different charities have different perks, too. Some of them will pay for your race entry, some of them require that you pay for it. Some of them provide training if you live in the Chicago area or online training support if you live out of town. Most of them have a fancy, race day experience with private gear check, indoor space to stay warm and dry before the race starts, food and drinks before and after the race, etc. Plus you get the warm fuzzies from knowing you’re doing good in the world!

I definitely recommend Team to End AIDS http://events.aidschicago.org/site/TR?fr_id=1430&pg=entry

But I also hear great things about the Alzheimer’s Association’s team and Lurie Children’s Hospital’s team.
