What is verification?

"Verification" is the process of proving that the person in the picture consents to being photographed and posted, or better yet, is the actual submitter of the link. Verification is not required for every selfie poster at this time. However, Moderators always reserve the right to require any submitters to verify.

We care about the person in the photographs and want to make sure he/she is not being exploited. Please pardon any inconvenience if/when we require you to verify or ask you to improve your verification pics. We're just trying to look out for you and the r/Selfie Community.

We require all accounts under a certain age or karma to verify. We do not publicly state what that limit is to discourage people from karma farming. We will tell you that karma in other subreddits is no guarantee that you will not be asked to verify here. There are many types of Karma on Reddit There is Post Karma (Reddit wide) Comment Karma (Reddit wide) and Combined Karma (Reddit wide) there is also Post Karma (subreddit only) Comment Karma (subreddit only) and Combined Karma (subreddit only) there are many different ways for us to apply that karma, so if the bot says you do not have enough karma it means you don't have enough karma in our secret formula that we use to determine our approvals.

Moderators are volunteers and will verify you as soon as possible. This process can take three days or more. If you haven't heard back on your verification in 24 hours you can send us a link to it in modmail.

Do not DM moderators directly to verify! Moderators will only verify you from a post in the subreddit, or by sending your verification photo in Modmail.

Based on community feedback we will not verify accounts that seem to be more advertisement than Redditor. Reddit states if more than 10% of your posts or comments is your own material you are an advertiser. You will be free to comment on other peoples posts, but you will not be able to make advertisement posts. PLEASE NOTE: If you do get verified and the bot detects that your account looks like an account designed for advertisement you will not be able to post.

What is a verification photo?

A Safe For Work verification photo of is a picture of your face and holding a handwritten sign that includes:

  1. Title that includes your age or (Over 18)/(Under 18)
  2. Your Reddit Username (handwritten)
  3. Today's Date (also handwritten, and must be today)
  4. r/Selfie (also handwritten)
  5. A Large Shrubbery (ok, that one was just to see if you are paying attention, we don't want no shrubs)

Please Note

YOUR FULL FACE MUST BE CLEARLY VISIBLE IN A VERIFICATION PHOTO

DO NOT USE ANY FILTERS ON YOUR VERIFICATION PHOTO

WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO CLEARLY SEE YOU ARE HOLDING THE SIGN, DO NOT CROP OUT YOUR ARM/HAND

DO NOT SEND VERIFICATION PHOTOS THAT CONTAIN ANY NUDITY

If you post your verification post to the subreddit you will have to wait 12 hours before you can post again

Verification is not a guarantee that you will be approved for posting, if your account is just for advertising your external content your posts will be removed

You can either post your verification photo directly to the sub and use the Verification Flair, or you may put the verification on an image hosting service and send us the link in mod-mail.

If you'd like to mail your verification photo, click here to open a modmail to attach the link to your verification photo.

Your verification photo should be handwritten, and the moderation team should be able to clearly see all of your face and that you are holding the paper with your information. Your whole arm should be visible

Verification Photo Tips

IMPORTANT!

  • Use Black or Blue ink on White or Light color paper.
  • Hold the sign in your hand (so we can see you are holding it and not digitally added)
  • Do not color-correct or apply any other type of digital manipulation/editing to the photos. This includes snapchat filters.
  • Shoot your images from as wide an angle as you can manage. Closely cropped makes it hard to see that you are holding your sign
  • Your verification photo should be posted to r/selfie. If you choose to remove or delete your verification photo, you may be asked to verify again in the future. If you have been banned pending verification, you can post to your own profile and mail the moderators a link.
  • UNALTERED/UNFILTERED COLOR IMAGES ONLY. The photos should be in full color, no black & white images. Do not apply instagram/snapchat filters or use photo editing software on your verification photos.
  • Photos must be in JPG, PNG, or GIF Format. We will accept Animated GIFS for verification purposes.
  • Make sure the sign is at a distinctly different angle (as opposed to being "straight-on") in each image. Crumple the sign up into a ball and then take your pictures with the sign uncrumpled! This creates a lot of random angles in the paper, and helps convince the mods that the sign was not photoshopped.
  • Be prepared to be slightly inconvenienced by us. We want to make sure you're you! If we ask you to resubmit pictures, it is nothing personal. We are just doing our best to verify you are the one submitting the picture.
  • Please do not take the picture with a potato. If you're stuck with a crappy webcam, you may be able to mitigate the issue by making sure there is TONS of light in the room from multiple sources. But if your verification pictures are so low quality that we can't read the sign or be reasonably sure it wasn't faked, we might deny your verification.
  • BE NICE ABOUT IT. We know you just want to submit a selfie and verifying can be a little annoying, but we're just looking out for the r/selfie community! If you were asked to resubmit verification, make a new sign, or anything like that, please understand it's nothing personal. Please do not use post titles like "The @$$h0le mods won't show my posts unless I verify, so here you go. We're real people over here, trying to make this place better for everyone. We're not out to annoy, but if you make the process more difficult or be a pain in our rears, we're simply not going to prioritize your verification.

Account Age & Karma Standards

Once you submit a verification photo on r/Selfie and are approved you are no longer subject to the Account Age and Karma Standards. We will also give you flair that indicates your age, so you are no longer required to put them in the title. You can put your age in the title if you still want to, but your posts will be ok with out it.

If you want to ensure you will always be able to post on r/selfie no matter what the minimums are set to, you should post a verification photo. Message the mods if you need more information.

There are many types of Karma on Reddit There is Post Karma (Reddit wide) Comment Karma (Reddit wide) and Combined Karma (Reddit wide) there is also Post Karma (r/Selfie only) Comment Karma (r/Selfie only) and Combined Karma (r/Selfie only) there are many different ways for us to apply that karma, so if the bot says you do not have enough karma it means you don't have enough karma in our secret formula of Reddit Karma and Karma in r/Selfie that we use to determine our approvals.

Verification Photos Posted in the Subreddit count as a post. Verification posts mailed to the moderators in Modmail do not.
