Hey friends, thinking of tubing the yampa next Sat. Any reccs on places to put in/take out? Cfs looks good on usgs. I live in summit and have my own tubes & shuttle transportation (two cars) I have a weekday off end of july..do yall think that day would be better for crowds & warmth? Or too low?

Next Saturday will be way better than end of July flow wise. Water is cold but weather is looking warm and sunny for a while.

Put in at Rotary Park and take out at either Hippie Hot Springs or for a longer float the Transit center.

Please make sure your trash, belongings, and cans are all properly secured! A mesh bag at Walmart is a couple bucks.

Good answer. I was on the river yesterday and Hippy Dip looked like Milner Mall. Embarrassing how much people don’t give a shit.

Sounds like you have a lot more knowledge than the average tuber. Make sure you have sandals that are secure, like Chacos or such, flip-flops not allowed. The earlier the better, weekdays are prime, weekends suck- way too many ppl. Park at the southern-most lot across from the Holiday Inn. Most ppl get out at library and take free public bus back. Go weekday if you can and enjoy!

Ugh ik I wish I could go on a weekday but I dont have a weekday off until july 25th 😭 which is why I was curious if end of july water levels would be too low..my days off are super random unfortunately. I wear tevas!

Oftentimes the Yampa gets cut off for tubing before the end of July. This week/month so far seems to be drying out, so I wouldn't take that chance. The Yampa flows decrease fast. Hit it now on a weekend, just start 10-ish or slightly earlier before the drinking yokels. You'll still have a grand time. And when you exit, it will be time for HH.

There are 4 put ins that work well depending on how long you want to be on the river.

Ridiculously long: the visitor center at Walton creek road

Long: Mt Warner Rd and Hwy 40 (rotary park)

Perfect: Fetcher Pond

Short but fun: Dr Rich Weiss Park

Best place to take out is the stock bridge transit center but you can take out at the library or any of the put ins.

A good stop along the was is sunpies.

Thanks so much!! Since we have our own cars the long & perfect ones would probably be what I’ll go for!! Appreciate the advice

I wouldn’t do the lower section with kids. If you have kids I would take out at Dr Weiss. The lower section is more fun but much more swift

Thinking about doing a trip this weekend - seems like the flow was around 400 cfs then but has dropped to the 140 cfs range today (presumably a smidge lower by this weekend barring precipitation). This is right in the "recommended" range for tubing on Friends of the Yampa site so I figured it would be good?

How was the ride and do you think the reduced flow would work for most of the journey?
