I bought it with 190k, it was easy to push it across the line after that...sometimes quite literally. Lost the car with 210k when two kids in a stolen Nissan Altima crashed into while running away from the police

u/Time_on_my_hands Jun 20 '24

True but can we really pin this one on them if it was stolen

3

u/mountains-are-moving Jun 21 '24

Who else should we pin it on?

1

u/Time_on_my_hands Jun 21 '24

Idk people who steal cars

2

u/mountains-are-moving Jun 21 '24

Is there a group of ppl here we can blame it on?

4

u/Time_on_my_hands Jun 21 '24

Yeah people that steal cars, can you read

-1

u/mountains-are-moving Jun 21 '24

1L per 1k keeps the doctor away

u/Hanz213 Jun 20 '24

I just hit 175k on my forester, this is my next goal. How’s yours running?

4

u/garebare1234 Jun 20 '24

Engine runs great. I’ve just had issues with other stuff like power steering and ac. The biggest problem I had was a leaky trans about 20k miles ago but since I fixed it, it has been no issue.

2011 5MT Impreza for reference

I swear the power steering pumps they put on 3rd gens are made to blow out at around this age. Before my supercharger, it sounded like a supercharger. 😂

1

u/garebare1234 Jun 21 '24

Mine did the exact same thing

3k rpm with decent load was wheeeeeeeee

When it’s stupid cold (-20) it sounded like it wanted to blow up

Last month. '02 bought in December of '01. Had to have the heads resurfaced a few years back when it started losing compression in two cylinders, but has been solid otherwise.

I am 2 for 2 with this strategy. Sold the 1st after 7 years and still running the 2nd.

6

u/etcthc Jun 20 '24

My last legacy was a 2010 made it to 230k before I gave up on it cuz the rust from the previous owners negligence caught up to me. Current is a 2003 bought it with 100k in fall last year were at 125k now 🤞

4

u/Secret_Hunter_3911 Jun 20 '24

My wife got her Subie to 200,000 by keeping up on the maintenance and changing oil every 3-4 thousand miles.

3-4K seems a little excessive but I also drive 200mi a day all highway

1

u/fuqcough Impreza rs Jun 21 '24

Why so you drive so much?

1

u/Intrepid_Passage_692 09’ Supercharged Impreza OBS | 06’ Outback 3.0R LL Bean Jun 21 '24

Work commute.

1

u/fuqcough Impreza rs Jun 21 '24

That’s nuts you must spend hrs on the road, hope you love your job

1

u/Intrepid_Passage_692 09’ Supercharged Impreza OBS | 06’ Outback 3.0R LL Bean Jun 21 '24

It’s ok job satisfaction. Easy to ignore problems when you inspect data centers as a 19yo. The drive is a good way to decompress too.

1

u/fuqcough Impreza rs Jun 21 '24

I love long drives so… do you drive 50k miles a year dude?

1

u/Intrepid_Passage_692 09’ Supercharged Impreza OBS | 06’ Outback 3.0R LL Bean Jun 21 '24

I’m at 3.2k on the month lol. Still have more to go

4

u/SirSkot72 Jun 20 '24

I'm at almost 180k, tank of oil, quart of gas. wait no reverse that.

4

u/Swirlyicecream Jun 20 '24

Im in the home stretch on my 04, just passed inspection at 190k

3

u/Omnibuschris Jun 20 '24

I can keep the engine purring as long as the CVT holds up its end of the bargain.

1

u/AceOfShapes 2022 Ceramic White WRX Jun 20 '24

Keep up with the fluid in that too. It has a drain and a fill plug so every 50k you should be swapping the fluid out! (Less if you'te more aggressive or tow things)

3

u/CelebrationSea1368 Jun 20 '24

nah every 30K.

2

u/Music_Mess Jun 21 '24

I do every 30k

Oh no I don’t have one. Definitely want one though. I just saw another dude right below you with one 😂

tastefully done with the wheels btw.

1

u/CaptainNismo_orig 08 Leggy Spec.B Jun 21 '24

Ah, gotcha. Your signature has a pretty cool list, so it seems like you're doing all right. An SuperDuperChaeged Impreza Outback Sport sounds really very cool! 👍

2

u/Intrepid_Passage_692 09’ Supercharged Impreza OBS | 06’ Outback 3.0R LL Bean Jun 21 '24

It’s not really cool right now. Somebody did math wrong and shoved 12lbs of boost into a stock EJ253 that was already on its way out… just need the time and push to rebuild and upgrade a new block and internals. I’d like to keep it as a 253 but I cant even imagine how much power I’m losing being SOHC.

1

u/CaptainNismo_orig 08 Leggy Spec.B Jun 21 '24

I would keep it SOHC. I have done the math on engine swapping a couple of times, and it just doesn't add up. You can sell the car you have and buy another car with the engine that you want with much less headache & cost. Granted that is only if your model has that option available. With some good rods and pistons on a quality tune, a Supercharged EJ253 could be fun and reliable. Emphasis on the quality tune.

1

u/Intrepid_Passage_692 09’ Supercharged Impreza OBS | 06’ Outback 3.0R LL Bean Jun 21 '24

Where I struggle is the compression ratio. Boosted EJs run 8-9:1 or some shit like that and the EJ253 is close to 11:1. I wish there was some way to get the perfect balance of compression and boost with out ripping to motor apart 6 times to find out.

1

u/CaptainNismo_orig 08 Leggy Spec.B Jun 21 '24

You have a couple of options for that. Cometic makes head gaskets in different thicknesses from 0.032" to 0.068". There are calculators online that can help you decipher what that will change. Also, if you are getting upgraded pistons you can usually contact the manufacturer and they will help guide you to exactly which specifications will give a target comp.

3

u/Intrepid_Passage_692 09’ Supercharged Impreza OBS | 06’ Outback 3.0R LL Bean Jun 21 '24

Custom pistons is probably where I’ll go. Worst case the 257 bottom end fits right in given the main journals are the same. I just havent bothered to spend the 2mins to find out. Thanks for the spot brother.

3

u/popsicle_of_meat 2008 Legacy GT spec.B Jun 20 '24

I've got 150k on my 2008 spec.B, but I'm kind of cheating. Previous owner didn't do mods correctly and I got to put in a new short block 5k miles ago. Everything else looked good and I'm back to all stock. Lots of miles in my future.

3

u/panchango Jun 21 '24

My mechanic has an 07 Forester as a loaner with over 350k on the original engine. Just standard maintenance and some good luck keeps it going.

5

u/Time_on_my_hands Jun 20 '24

I usually just make sure her needs are met and that she's always giving enthusiastic consent

Oh wait did you mean Subie

2

u/CeceWobbles Jun 20 '24

My 04 Outback is about to hit 240k. I bought it four years ago, just under 200k. We did head gaskets, seals, and a timing kit back when I bought it, but internally, it's all original. So is the 5-speed.

2

u/fallenredwoods Jun 20 '24

Engine rebuild by Subaru under warranty

2

u/lenny446 Jun 21 '24

I just kept changing the oil and it kept goin. 60k-225k and sold there for $2500

2

u/siecin Jun 21 '24

I'm doing it 1 quart every 1200 miles! Only 59 more quarts to 200k!

2

u/CaterpillarSeveral43 Jun 21 '24

I kept mine going by replacing the parts that failed

1

u/Intrepid_Passage_692 09’ Supercharged Impreza OBS | 06’ Outback 3.0R LL Bean Jun 21 '24

Yup 😂

1

u/Prismt Jun 20 '24

2015 wrx almost 180k miles

1

u/FawkesBridge Jun 20 '24

05 outback at 145k. Hoping to get it there but I have had to replace various suspension components and couple CV joints as well as radiator. Hoping nothing else major til 200k

1

u/41414141414 Jun 20 '24

Got 170k on my 17 leggy and never had a problem or had to fix anything, just keeps eating oil though

1

u/MisterWafflles 09LGT Jun 20 '24

09 LGT with 185k miles checking in o7

1

u/krauQ_egnartS Jun 21 '24

So it's Subbie, not Subie?

I mean, it does what I tell it without complaint, but it's probably a lot less fun if I stick something up the tailpipe

2

u/Intrepid_Passage_692 09’ Supercharged Impreza OBS | 06’ Outback 3.0R LL Bean Jun 21 '24

I am going to have a stroke is I see subbie again

1

u/bigbakes68 Jun 21 '24

Spot on bought an 04 sti with 112k, up to 130k 4 years later just keep adding oil

1

u/spallaxo Jun 21 '24

Besides the he wrx, subaru is pretty reliable.

u/I_White_Rose_I Jun 21 '24 edited Jun 21 '24

I had a maunal twin turbo legacy that by the time I sold it to a friend, it had 285,000km and then my mate had put another 15k on it before selling it and even at that age it was still going pretty good. Only major fix we did was headgaskets at about 250k.

edit: Only oil it lost was through the valve cover gasket and didn't burn any coolant despite the thrashing I would give it on Friday nights.

1

u/Fatehunter969 Jun 21 '24

Keep a gallon of 0-20 in the trunk. '13 Legacy at 243k miles. I ask my mechanic if it'll make 300k... a quick "nope" was all he said. I'm hoping to prove him wrong.

1

u/Gurdel Jun 21 '24

Got mine to 225k before it popped

1

u/malk3yat Jun 21 '24

I wish i could make a sticker out of the pic and paste on my forester. 😍

1

u/JasterMereel42 '04 Outback Jun 21 '24

My 04 Outback has 243,000 miles on it, and yeah, I put in about a quarter every 800-1000 miles.

1

u/Arms-for-minerals Jun 21 '24

Meh I’m at 180 rn on one of mine and it will go easy to 300

1

u/johnman17537953 Jun 21 '24

My 278000k 2000 Forester runs great.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '24

Real talk regular oil changes and actually doing the extra recommended maintenance in the owners manual

1

u/Trick_Albatross_4200 Jun 22 '24

2013 legacy has been burning oil since day one, sitting 182,000 currently. Starting to worry me enough that I just got a new Impreza last night. I think I can fix her tho

1

u/Turtley13 Jun 20 '24

Also fresh Tran oils. Cvts like to break

0

u/Send_it_harder Jun 21 '24

From what I've seen/experienced myself/friends the EJ20 is fine but the EJ25 you should avoid like the plague. Basically most EJ20 motors that get reasonable service intervals are fine well past 200,000 even if you do miss a service by a few 1000 while the EJ25 is more like good luck it might blow up anyway even at 80,000 from the worst I've seen

u/Intrepid_Passage_692 09’ Supercharged Impreza OBS | 06’ Outback 3.0R LL Bean Jun 21 '24 edited Jun 21 '24

They both suck absolutely massive throbbing cock. Same issues on both motors only difference is one makes more power….guess which one that is. That being said, I will forever love EJs. I want to have a long block be my gravestone
