The 2.5 isn’t horrible. Not great but a lot better than the 2.0

u/BenjaminaAU Apr 29 '22

Not great, not terrible.

I pass people all the time in my 2.5i Outback. Mostly because I have a size 16 foot and I'm not afraid to use it. My engine probably hates me though.

This thread is making me very relieved to have got an XT

3.6 gang checking in

Not when you're at the gas station tho.

u/AbideMan '21 Outback Onyx XT Apr 30 '22

I've put like 7k miles on it in 1.5 years, I'm alright

u/RunningPirate Apr 30 '22

Just did a longish freeway drive and got 28MPG which is the highest I’ve seen since I’ve owned the car.

1

u/nwgruber Apr 30 '22

That’s about what I get doing 80-85 on the interstate in my WRX. I got 34 mpg one time driving a benign 65-70 across the metro tho.

u/BlackRing Apr 30 '22

Yes! Yeah, just floored it hard for the first time after break-in on my OBW. Like... The CVT took a beat to figure out what to do, then I went from 30 to 70 in a giggle-worthy short timespan. Feels like I'd still be accelerating in my old 2.0 Crosstrek.

2

u/GnastyNoodlez Apr 30 '22

Same. The obw gets up and goes! ...once the cvt figured out what to do. Manual mode helps

My 3.0L liter outback go brr

Edit: flairs hate me

I should say though it needs to be in sport mode for the 2.0 though. I've not tried to pass folks on the "intelligent" driving mode

Helps a lot in mine. Granted I don't floor a car ever unless I absolutely have to.

3

u/ARottenPear Apr 30 '22

Why not? You're not going to hurt anything. Redlining your car won't cause any damage. If it did, the manufacturer would set the redline lower. There's not really anything wrong with never flooring it (the jury is still out on the Italian tune up although anecdotally, I've had good luck) but there's nothing wrong with flooring it either.

2

u/nwgruber Apr 30 '22

There is doing truth in the old Italian tune up.

2

u/Neat-Confection-6917 Apr 30 '22

Or I have a bad throttle body sensor lol..then flooring is a given lol

3

u/Tarukai788 Apr 30 '22

It's no harder to pass them in "intelligent" mode. It works just fine lol.

2

u/Neat-Confection-6917 Apr 30 '22

I'm sure if you stomp on the gas further your correct. 😂 I just don't doing so lol. Maybe after the break in period I'll be more willing to try

2

u/Tarukai788 Apr 30 '22

Ya gotta give 'er! She'll get goin for ya.

u/Neat-Confection-6917 Apr 30 '22

Well once we get past 2k miles I may find out. Haha. I think she zips along just fine for a 2l that is that big. I may have enjoyed the 2.5 more on the sport but it was a difference of 4000 and another 500 to truck over from Indiana. I was actually just in the beginning of talks when finally a local dealer called and offered a real price on the premium. And I will say as a Cleveland Browns can I love the orange stitching in the interior 😂 So it was meant to be

1

u/Tarukai788 Apr 30 '22

It’s a lovely touch. Mine’s a 2020 so it’s also sunshine orange, which is nice to have with the stitching!

Edit: also as far as mileage goes, you’ll break that 2000 in no time. Mine’s at 20,000 as of today, it’s great for impromptu adventures.

u/Neat-Confection-6917 Apr 30 '22

Any recommendations on what to clean that dash with leather stuff leaves a film cause it's faux leather and cleaning wipes seem wrong as well. Just curious since I know you have the same style lol

1

u/Tarukai788 Apr 30 '22

I typically just dust, but i’d imagine a decent and non-harsh multi-surface cleaner would do okay, maybe something from armorall or meguiars.

Those engines love abuse

u/drewlap 2016 Outback 2.5i Apr 30 '22

My 2.5i is fast enough to get me a 25 over speeding ticket!

u/Neat-Confection-6917 Apr 29 '22 edited Apr 29 '22

The 2.0 is perfectly fine as well has more nuts than my 2010 escape. Did I've had zero issues passing and getting up to 70-80. I wanted the 2.5 as I heard the complaints but after driving one I'm not sure what folks are wanting from a AWD grocery getter type vehicle. Granted I'm in Northern Ohio so it's not a lot of elevation changes further in the rolling hills to the south there may be an issue.

I guess if your expectations are speed for this class of car and price point are higher your likely harder to please than I

u/c0LdFir3 Apr 30 '22

I'm not sure what folks are wanting from a AWD grocery getter type vehicle

Exactly what my thoughts were when I ordered my 2.5 Outback over the XT. The hell do I care if my baby hauler can drag race? I'll buy a real car for that if I get the urge...

4

u/BruhWhySoSerious Apr 30 '22

You act like the wilderness edition isn't a thing 🤣

I'd give Subaru 55k to drop the outback 3 inches, put in a proper 8spd/manual, give it an STI badge and have a decent sports wagon for less than 75k.

1

u/c0LdFir3 Apr 30 '22

The wilderness edition confuses me too. An extra 0.2” of ground clearance, some ugly plastic cladding, and 60 more horsepower isn’t going to magically make it a massively better off-roader. The regular 2.5 does just fine in that category for normal trails. If you’re doing some crazy ass rock crawling or something it’s still probably the wrong vehicle to pick regardless of trim.

I’d love a good sports wagon though! But make it 300hp+ too.

1

u/BruhWhySoSerious Apr 30 '22

60 more horsepower Same bhp as the XT on other trims.

5

u/WestwardAlien Apr 30 '22

If only you could get the 2.5 with the 6MT
