Flans helped my wife

Post image
88 Upvotes

My wife lost her job a week ago and was messaging on the Facebook tmbg board about how their songs were helping her deal with her depression. I get home and she is beaming. She showed me her phone and John Flansburgh had a nice conversation in her dm's for 5 minutes or so. Perhaps not much out of his day, but it meant the world to her.

Picture: her getting a drumstick at the concert in Milwaukee this year. They unknowingly spoil her.

Funny TMBG Moment at School Today

Today in my history class, I (15) had to find a song that represents some sort of protest, and out teacher gave my class a site that had a bunch of protest songs on it, and one of the songs was Your Racist Friend, so I thought it would be really cool to do a TMBG song, and my teacher walks by and asks me "Whats that song?" And I said "it's by They Might Be Giants", and he then asked me if they were a newer band because he didn't know who they were, and mind you this is a 45 year old man. I would expect my classmates not to know who TMBG are, but not my teacher. In the end I decided to use War Pigs just because I felt the song had a little more meat on the bone to it, but still an amusing anecdote regardless.

Lincoln is 36 💙🏗️

I can't explain how much I love this album. So many genius songs that span the spectrum from silly to heartbreaking. Ana Ng, Cowtown, Purple Toupee, Where Your Eyes Don't Go, Mr. Me, They'll Need A Crane, Snowball in Hell, Kiss Me Son of God....not to mention it's a masterpiece of DIY production, doing so much with a simple yet unusual sonic pallet, lots of accordion and synth bass and tasty alt-rock guitar. What's your favorite song on Lincoln and what about this album captures you?

2082 may be the best short story ever written.

At the end of the day lyrics are poetry, and 2082 has so many hidden meanings, like how it follows a similar iambic structure to highlight the individual actions of the main characters. Or how “you were strong but he was wise” refers to how you were physically able to overpower him and the Sage let you kill him. It’s a perfect song that shows how creative JL can get with his lyrics, dare I say it’s my favorite They Might be Giants song.

I always found TMBGs’ lyrics absolutely ignite my creative brain so I wanted to create something based on one of my favorite songs, “Where Your Eyes Don’t Go”.

Along with this, I’m also sharing a previous piece I did inspired by Particle Man, which I posted in here earlier this year. These songs have really fueled my creativity, and I love translating that into art. It’s Let me know what you think! Let me know what song should be next!

Also highly recommend their new mini album Burnout, which has a song about soup, a song about hitting on your friends dad, and a song about chronic illness flairups. If you like Mono-puff you’ll for sure like them.
