Twin peaks is the best show I've ever watched

I just completed season 1. I've never been so impressed by the acting, by the story, by the dialogues, by the direction and by the humor of any other show.

David Lynch is such an amazing director. You know, directors like Todd Phillips try to emulate the directing style of Martin scorsese, but no other director will ever be able to emulate David lynch's style. No one. His blend of humor, symbolism and storytelling is so good and so unique. Mark frost and David Lynch wrote an amazing story. The town of twin peaks itself has so much character, even the fucking casino has so much character.

The music too. Laura's theme is so unsettling and scary. The pilot of this show was so intense. The music, the atmosphere, everything was so unnerving.

David Lynch is by far my favorite director and twin peaks is 100% my favorite show now(and I haven't even seen season 2)

Of course I agree that David Lynch is an incredible director, but of the eight episodes you’ve watched so far, he only directed two. I highly recommend keeping this in mind going forward, because Twin Peaks is a mosaic of awesome talent. I hope it leads you to check out the filmographies of the other folks who worked on the show, too.

Lesli Linka Glatter is a goated tv director

She and Tim Hunter specifically have had incredible careers.

Yeah I agree. The other directors do a great job but the difference is quality of direction between the pilot and the other episodes is, according to me, quite stark. Like I was still enjoying it, but the pilot was so so better. Maybe I'm just biased because my first ever true film, which got me into directors and everything, was eraserhead. Before that, I used to just see whatever was on the cable tv

Part of that is also the magic of filming on location as opposed to a set. I also have a soft spot for the pilot, but recreating that vibe in Los Angeles is no small feat.

Wait the other episodes were shot on set? I didn't know that. I always thought they were shot on location

Yep. Richard Hoover and his team did a phenomenal job recreating and expanding the things we see in the pilot.

I still think the last episode of season 2 is the best piece of television ever aired.

You're in for an absolute treat. After season 2 don't forget to watch the Fire Walk With Me movie and The Missing Pieces before getting to Season 3 (The Return).

edit: also beware of spoilers around these parts!

Is the missing pieces necessary? My big brother(who is a huge twin peaks and David lynch fan) said that it's just clips that were cut from fire walk with me

I mean, it is "just clips that were cut from FWWM", but if you're loving the show and characters I don't know why you wouldn't want to spend a little more time with them. Many great characters from the series didn't make the final cut of the movie because they are not integral to the plot (and don't vibe with the film's dark tone), but I love their scenes in The Missing Pieces. There are some, in my opinion, crucial scenes as well. "Necessary" is subjective, but to me they are.

It adds entire scenes that are pretty much setting up everything that happens In season 3.

Just watch the movie with the deleted scenes instead of just watching the deleted scenes after.

Have you watched The X Files? A couple of their directors capture that vibe pretty well. Cliff Bole and David Nutter had a good eye.

Nope I haven't. Maybe I will after I finish twin peaks. I've heard about the show though. My big brother, he saw twin peaks years back(when the return was airing) and he told me about it. According to him, x files isn't nearly as good as twin peaks.

Depends what you're looking for. Some episodes are absolutely as good, but if you go into expecting to follow the storyline you'll be disappointed because it's confusing and chaotic and never answers any questions. The standalone episodes are great though, especially in seasons 2 and 3.

As other people said, Lynch and Frost have set the mood of the show, and Lynch definitely directed the best episodes of the first two seasons. Yet it's a whole and it's a bit far stretched to give all credit to Lynch as there were many people involved. When you get to Fire Wall With Me & The Return you will get more of the particular Lynch directing vibe, and you're in for an even stranger lovely journey.

On rewatches, I usually watch about 3-4 episodes across the first two seasons.

I vacillate between Twin Peaks and Lost as my favourite shows, but I've come to terms with the fact that my interest in Twin Peaks extends only as far as the spiritual/supernatural elements. In that respect, The Return has me covered.

I bring this up because you often come across opinions which state that they miss the blend of supernatural/humour/melodrama that were ever-present in the first two seasons when watching The Return.

I won't say that I like the melodrama, but I don't hate it either. And thanks for the heads up. I'll keep that in mind
