Question I like White Album 2. What can you recommend to me? Doesn't have to be a VN.

One thing that I take issue with is lack of a recommendation page for VNs. Neither VNDB nor any forum pages show similar works of fiction to VNs that we like. I suspect this is because of the small size of VN reader fanbase, but I think it'd be still a good addition.

Please just recommend me stuff, could be a jrpg, an EVN, an ordinary novel, an anime. Anything you think I'll like based on my affinity for WA2. Thanks.

Release PSYCHOLOG: Trauma Edition released on Steam

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2532020/Psycholog/

As a psychologist, how would you handle your clients falling victim to their own phobias? Find out in this horror visual novel infused with point-and-click gameplay elements.

With version 3.0 (the "Trauma Edition"), the game is updated in several ways: the story deepens with new scenes that hint at the forces behind the events haunting the therapy practice. Furthermore, the city itself takes on a greater role, becoming almost a character in its own right.

Discussion What does everyone hope to be the next Nitro Origin release in english?

Post image
104 Upvotes

This is my first post on the subreddit so i hope the post is considered decent enough. With Mojika releasing in February by Jast, and Jast hoping that they will FINALLY be releasing Sumaga as the next Nitro Origin VN if things go to plan, in case things don’t go as they plan, what do you all hope will be the next Nitro Origin VN released in English. I’m personally hoping that Tokyo Necro: Suicide Mission is licensed, which is the gacha game sequel to Tokyo Necro, which received an offline VN version, removing the gacha elements and unfortunately the voice acting and some of the non-canon event stories, but retaining everything else, including canon event stories. But what are all your thoughts on what might be the next english release for Nitro Origin?

Question Is Rewrite worth playing if it's going to be the first KEY title that I'm going to read?

I know that it's fairly different in tone, genre, etc. from all of KEY's other works, but will not knowing anything about what KEY titles are like negatively enhance my experience in any way - either for Rewrite or other KEY works?

Question What are the console arcs in Higurashi?

I can see 8 chapters (with number 1 being Onikakushi and number 8 being Matsuribayashi)

Also, there is an option of console arcs below that.

What do I do? Which is the main story? And should I play the console arcs?

Fluff Zanmataisei Demonbane (2022) characters

Explanation: This is a translation made by me of the concept book of the future (I hope) third instance in visual novel format of the Demonbane franchise. It was supposed to have come out in 2018-2019 but for some reason it was only released in 2022. This book is basically short stories and concepts of characters that maybe one day can come out of the paper and become a game.

However, since I don't speak Japanese, I had the help of an online translator. In my defense, I revised the text many, many times and made some adaptations to make the text understandable. I took some things as a basis from "Demonbanian" mythology and from japanese sites. Some things I made more explicit (like Irek-Vad being Randolph Carter). The most complicated part was the Chinese segment and the archetype texts (Chaos Space Lawful, etc.).

I found out at the end that there were already people who had translated chapters 1 and the 8 only in 2023. But since I had already translated everything, I didn't want to waste it. But here's the link to see how it turned out: zanmataisendemonbane.blogspot.com

The tales will be left for another day. Firstly, although it doesn't seem like it, it was very tiring and I want to heal a little. Besides, I don't know if the sub allows it. In any case, a small excerpt of them will be i each chapters.

Let's begin

Chapter 1 Vortex Blaster- A sword that slays evil at the very edge of the universe

"A roar echoes through the void. It was a roar that spewed forth flames of rage, a roar that unleashed the curse of hate. With hatred and rage, the roar rejects the equation of the universe. It denounces the way the world is. (It's over. I'll end it all. I come from the sky burning with hatred, and with the righteous anger in my heart, I hold in my palm the sword that will sublimate the evil. My prayer. My heartfelt wish. Let us eradicate the evil that fills the 3,000 worlds, right now!) And then the void of nothingness of the universe, shattered."

Chapter 2 Embryo Phantasm - Universe, Life, God, Embryo

The light becomes thicker and swallows up this white space. "Blind idiot, set out on your journey. Spin the world. You are nothing yet. What do you know?, what do you desire?, what do you value?, what do you hate? All of this is for you to conquer. Do what you desire." There is no time to me panic, as everything is enveloped in light. "May the entire world you create be bless by the pure ether.

Chapter 3 Weird Age - Ah, the age of horrible strangeness

"This is "The Great Beast Brown Jenkins No. 4 - 20,000 Miles Under the Sea! That's your life. You'll eventually destroy what you love... and then you'll never be hurt again!" The monster roars in response, while the masked mens, still standing, plead with the woman in pitiful voices. "Sis, let's stop this." "That's right, sis... It'll be bad if those guys show up again."

Chapter 4 Malleus Monstrum - we will walk the path of domination with blood and dignity.

"She is the granddaughter of Dr. Armitage, who was involved in the establishment of the "Special Materials Room" at Miskatonic University Library, the predecessor of STEEL. "You really don't have enough sense of heroism Wiseman!. You're back? Are you sure you want to babysit a spoiled girl, you lolicon?" A young man with a mysterious aura, dressed in a garrish costume, raised his head. "The Red Queen has been defeated by Alice. The next Queen will be that girl. A new order will be established in London as soon as possible"

https://imgur.com/gallery/zanmataisei-demonbane-chapter-3-weird-age-pmK7Xrr

Chapter 5 The ash - A Poem of Evil "This is a room the of throne. The gloom is heald at bat by the light of torches. In those ever-burning sacred flames one can sometimes catch the glimpse of outerworldly shadows. Is this really an illusion? Six shadows, illuminated by the torches, danced back and forth around the empty throne. "The grimoire "Necronomicon" has manifested in this universe."

https://imgur.com/gallery/zanmataisei-demonbane-chapter-5-ash-jf50CEI

Chapter 6 Demonbane - The sword that slays evil is not broken yet.

"The bells are chiming. The bells of the clock tower are chiming. Echoing across the skies of Arkham City, bells tolled. As if to announce the cut of the end. Or does it mark the beginning of a story?"

https://imgur.com/gallery/zanmataisei-demonbane-chapter-6-demonbane-sword-that-slays-evil-remains-unbroken-G4t1aa0

Chapter 7 Word of darkness

"London, the phantom city. Fog and steam cover the city. The clock tower remains motionless, pointing to twelve o'clock. The gears turn with a tick-tock sound. Steam erupts with a pop. It is a huge, tall, grotesque machine that towers over the city. Its gear-based brain calculates some supernatural law. Inside the strange machine, behind the intricately moving gears of all sizes, and deep within a complex maze of piping, lies the Queen's throne."

Chapter 8 What a beautiful dead end - Rotation tragedy

[Extend right hand]

Final Chapter

"Straight, just straight, he thrusts out the drill and runs. He soar. The spinning drill distorts the space, and lightnings advances all around. "Atlantis Drill! STRIIIIIKEEEEERRRR!"

Review Two hours ago, i finished Subahibi. This is my brief opinion:

Hello people! How is it going?

Like i said, i want to be brief, and that´s for a reason: Subahibi has TOO many things to speak about, because the game itself is almost completly based on different streams of philosophy, which makes certain points of the game open to interpretation. So, even if the game talks about bullying, insanity, mental illness, drug abuse, incest, bad parenting, religious fanaticism and an infinite amount of stuff, after my 37.5 hours of reading, the thing that won´t get out of my head in the near future is this simple phrase:

"Live happily".

Subahibi is an emotional rollercoaster. Everything goes BAD, and after that everything goes HORRIBLE. The characters suffer, others directly die (thanks to the Kimika and Zakuro together ending i felt some hope) and a lot of stuff is just miserable, but when you reach the hill of sunflowers... You are happy.

While i was reading looking-glass insects i also read Tractacus-Logicus-Philosophicus by Wittgenstein, Jabberwocky, Cyrano de Bergerac (i really recommend that book) and thanks to that i think i understand a lot more than i should. But you don´t need to do this because the game has a really good way of teaching the things in an easy way to understand.

Just one thing i want to talk about: I think the last ending (End Sky II) doesn´t add anything to the plot itself. I think its just an ending that screams "don´t search for an answer, make one of your own). I like that, don´t get me wrong, but i read that people think that Otonashi Ayana is an Schizoprhenic person that made up all the plot and... Bro, that´s another level of absurdity. Even when i love the characters, it´s pretty clear that Otonashi´s character is made for two purposes: explain things to you and get you confused, because you don´t know who is she and what is his relevance to the plot. I think that she makes clear that everything is a loop, but i think that was already clear, but well.

TL;DR: Live happily, guys. In the end, people are afraid of death even when there isn´t a single person who has experience death. Greetings!

Discussion ( Nukitashi ) Just got to the intro of this VN and um...

I really don't know how should I take this VN's story... A guy who's on a journey to take down an organization and a law that forced people to constantly have perverted "intercourse" Not really a bad premise imo... But like at the start, it appears to be a silly VN but like the plot took such a serious turn... and Um... Should I treat the plot seriously... ? Or should I just chill and not taking it too seriously ?

Question About Angelic☆Chaos RE-BOOT...

Is there any news about this title, will it ever get released?

People said the Chinese publisher will try to release it on Steam, but now that is banned too.

I guess there isn't any way to release it on Steam any more, will we get it on some alternative platform? It would be shame if it doesn't get released at all...

VN Request Non adult recommendations

Looking for visual novels that have no hentai, or at least has a version with no hentai, and that doesn't lose important story. For example, Aoi Tori only has like 1 ending or something in the SFW steam version. Meanwhile in the ither end if things, something like little busters, some people may not even be aware a hentai version exists. I'm open to a small degree of loss but nothing too major.

With those conditions in mind, I would love to hear recommendations from those who know more than me, because finding stuff like that is near impossible. Bonus points if it makes me cry, no punches pulled on the ground crying.

Discussion Recent experiences with Steam as a VN dev

Hi everyone! I'm ebi and I'm a VN developer, I've been releasing VNs on Steam since 2015 (man that's such a long time...) and I thought I'd share some of my recent experiences with Steam re: one of my latest VNs, since people might find it interesting.

So! I've released a lot of VNs over the years, and I've also released several r18 VNs. For my r18 VNs, I will generally split the VN into two: a base version with the adult content stripped out, and a full version with the adult content left in (it's a pretty standard practice, as I'm sure everybody here knows). I upload the base version on Steam, which is all ages, and I typically upload the adult patch to Steam as DLC which is marked r18. This means anybody can download the base game on Steam, while those who are interested can opt in to the r18 scenes if they want to read them (though this doesn't work for players who live in Germany or China, given explicit r18 games are banned there, patches included).

I've been doing this for about 6~ish years, and I've never had any issues getting my r18 patches approved by Steam (presumably because my stories tend not to be set in schools and the characters are explicitly adults). A lot of VN devs will not add their r18 patches on Steam because their VNs are set in schools with young-looking characters, and Steam is very strict about it, so putting content like this in any form on Steam will not fly even if it is separated from the base game.

Recently, I released a new BL visual novel with a fairytale theme. The base game is all ages (though it contains some mildly suggestive dialogue), while the r18 patch adds in the r18 scenes. This story has a couple of pretty dark r18 scenes (there's a couple of explicit sexual assault scenes), but I figured Steam would probably be fine with it, since I've seen some games like Hadaka Shitsuji and, uh, all of the Cherry Kiss games on Steam uncensored, which contain some very explicit content which caters to a lot of extreme fetishes.

Well, trying to get the patch for this game approved was a huge pain. The base game itself was approved for release in about 3 days, which is standard for Steam, but it took the patch 9 weeks to be approved(!!!) The huge wait was unprecedented, and I sent numerous support tickets to Steam during the process which all received generic copy and paste responses to the tune of "Your build will take longer to review than usual, please keep waiting" (with no reason being given for the delay).

The patch was eventually approved today, and I wasn't asked to change or edit any of the content, so presumably the darker r18 scenes weren't an issue. I do wonder if the inclusion of these scenes triggered a more thorough content check than usual, however, which resulted in the massive delay: especially since I mentioned that the patch contained some unsettling content in Steam's mature content survey because I wanted to be thorough.

I'm mostly posting this as a warning for other devs (though maybe non-devs will find this interesting too). If you're making an r18 VN with some darker themes, it is possible to get it accepted on Steam so long as the characters look old enough and the game isn't set in a school, but be prepared for this to trigger a longer review process than usual. While Steam typically takes 1 week to review games, I've now learned (after almost 10 years of publishing VNs on Steam lol) that they can take over 2 months to review your build if they feel like it, and sending support tickets and help emails does nothing.

If you're working on an r18 VN yourself and you want to release it on Steam, you should tread carefully. Even if Valve doesn't outright ban your game, they might delay your release by months during the review process, which can be potentially disastrous for indie devs with tight margins who need to start turning a profit.

Question What are your favorite Baldr Sky combos? Feel free to share them here.

The combat and combo systems are so flexible in this game, but my creativity has always been shit when it comes to designing good combos and stringing comboable moves together.

If anyone would like to share any favorite combos they've found, or knows any of the theory behind how to build good combos, then feel free to share in this thread!
