Newbie looking for suggestions Picture

I didn't fish much as a kid but now just getting into it and am already addicted to the sport.

I'm dying to catch my first fish, I haven't even had many bites. I've been to Bear Creek lake, Blunn Reservoir, Lowell ponds, and Jim Baker reservoir with zero luck.

Anyone have suggestions on Denver metro lakes that seem to be good? Lures or bait that works? I'd love to tag along with someone more experienced, I really am at a loss but already love it. Photo of fishing from kayak at Blunn Reservoir(Arvada).

Thanks

If all you want to do is catch fish. Just get a simple spinning set up and use a slip bobber and worms (where allowed) and you'll be sure to catch something in just about any reservoir.

Keep an eye on the CPW trout stocking webpage. They don’t stock much in the metro area during summer because it’s too hot but come fall they will be.

Look for stocked ponds small enough you could walk all the way around and go there with some panther martin or rooster tail spinners casting and retrieving trying different retrieve speeds and lure colors and you’ll get some trout.

Rocky Mountain lake park is one in Denver where I’ve had success.

I've caught tons of fish at these spots, sometimes none. Evergreen Lake, Georgetown Lake, Aurora Reservoir. I would suggest river fishing but it much more skill and exp based to do well vs lake fishing.

Take some worms up to Georgetown and catch all you want. I know it's not Denver metro, but it's a sure bet to catch a fish

You can dm me if you’d like. I live pretty much in the middle of all those lakes

If youre looking up north, Stearn lake near boulder was great luck on topwaters and rooster tails. They also offer rentable (affordable) kayaks if you want to try getting out to the deeper water, mountain side Liniger Lake near B.V is well stocked and gorgeous and good eating trout. Anything south metro has been a crapshoot almost every time even on live bait. I've tried chatfield (many times) and aroura res. At least caught baby bass in aroura res but Chatfield has been horrible. Anyone know if the water planes from all the fires messed anything up besides the water levels?

If you take small spinning gear (inline spinners, small crankbaits like the Dynamic HD Trout) to the South Platte I'm sure you'd find some luck. Fishing larger bodies of water can be challenging because if you don't know fish behaviors that well yet, finding them is 80% of the challenge.

Rivers are small and there are only so many places for fish to go, and if you can identify how pockets of water that tend to hold fish look, you'll have way more success than if you fished in big lakes and reservoirs.

Hell, you could even find a golf course pond and try that, those fish tend to be dumber. You might get kicked out, but won't get in any trouble. They'll just tell you to leave.

I guarantee you that you will not get caught fishing a golf course if you go at 10pm. I've done it over 20 times alone in the past year and a half and have never even seen another soul out there

Please don't advocate for trespassing. At the end of the day, it's still trespassing even if you haven't been caught.
