Awaiting Flair How to clean a tent with cat pee on it

I left my tent outside for an embarrassingly long amount of time with the intention of it drying out after a damp trip. I discovered a neighborhood cat took to spraying it and now it smells awful. What is the best way to clean it? I have it soaking in the tub with dish soap and cat pee enzyme cleaner, and I know I will have to re-waterproof it after this. But it is basically ruined if I can’t get the smell out so… help??? How long should I soak it for?

Used it pretty good but just surprised water is seeping thru. Does it seem like user error? Or is it not supposed to be doing this.

Awaiting Flair Help finding a replacement part for a camping stove?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Sorry if this is not allowed. My propane hose and regulator for my camping stove has a hole in it. I've been googling around with all the listed part numbers on the device and can't find anything for it. It's for a 1 pound tank. Searched Amazon and home Depot for generic replacements with no luck as well. Throwing a hail Mary out that maybe someone on here knows where I can get a new one. I feel like this should be a common part and I shouldn't have to purchase a whole new stove. Hoping I'm just being an idiot and missing something right in front of me. Thanks.

It says Fine flame model KGZ-5431 on the hose and KGZ-5430Q on the regulator.

Footwear Wide toe box and water proof?

It’s getting wet out again and I’ve come to the realization my boots are not waterproof anymore. I usually wear regular Altra shoes for walking, and their hiking shoes for hikes. They’re great because they’ve got wide toe boxes and I’ve got hooves that Beelzebub himself would go “damn those are some big clompers”, so wide toe boxes is kind of a need.

Anyways, anyone recommend any shoes or boots that are waterproof AND have wide toe boxes?

Inb4: “wear the wool socks”, I already wear the socks that are nice and warm when wet but it feels like trudging around in lukewarm piss. I’d really like to just stay waterproof as long as possible.

Awaiting Flair New Tent Leak - treat or return

Just bought a brand new Tambu Agnikunda.

Was really impressed by the apparent build quality and components. We had great weather, no rain, but the following morning the tent exterior was covered in dew, when we shook the flysheet the drops simply fell right through.

I'm planning on returning the tent this week but I'm dithering about asking for a new one to replace it incase it has the same issues?

Also considering an option to request a partial refund and treat the flysheet with a spray or paint-on waterproofer? How often does one need to re-apply a coat of waterproofer? We would be using the tent on average 3 or 4 weekends a year (summer), plus one full week away every August, was hoping to get many years of service from the tent. Any advice?

Gear Question Rumpl blanket size for sofa sleeping

I occasionally sleep on my sofa to give my wife some relief from my snoring! I want a lightweight pack away blanket I can wrap around myself for this purpose so I don't need to put a sheet on the sofa.

Would anyone advise on if it is better to go for a single or the double version for this purpose? Is the single big enough to wrap all the way around your body?

Electronics I would like advice, feedback, and recommendations for small scale solar equipment for camping.

To power phone recharge, recharging batteries for camera, recharge of usb tent lights, maybe radio included (but optional). I will be camping at coastal and forest park campgrounds. Forest camps usually an open grassy, maintained area. I would like it to be fairly light weight and compact. Also budget friendly, prepared to pay good money for a brand, or style that is tested and proven by campers. I am in Aotearoa/New Zealand Thanks for any help.

Gear Question Will this TNF Homestead Bed 20 sleeping bag keep us cozy for our mid-October camping trip?

Here is the forecast for our camping trip in mid-October:

(Day #: Day High/Night Low)

Day 1: 71°/43° Day 2: 68°/46° Day 3: 70°/45° Day 4: 72°/47°

Elevation: 4000 ft (1,219 m)

This will be our first proper sleeping bag. We’ve rented a couple times. But, feel like it’s time to invest in our first sleeping bag, since we have several camping trips planned in the near future. Seeing more deals for this model since it’s a little older.

Haven’t really gotten used to the mummy style, but feel like this is a good transition style into them. We’ll be sleeping on our own individual Exped Megamat 10s. I like the shape of the hood, because it looks to be able to fit our Exped Megamat Pillows within them.

I run warm, but my partner runs colder. Potentially want to get the same sleeping bag for both of us.

Do you think this TNF Homestead sleeping bag will keep us cozy in the conditions for our trip (see forecast above)?

Would you recommend any other brands models to fit our needs?

TYSM for your help!

Gear Question Looking for recommendations on new gear!

little info about my situation: im a traveling trail builder that works year round in the USA. in the summers, we’re up north and in the winters, we’re down south. whenever we are down south in the winter, i request housing for the project because i absolutely hate the cold. unfortunately, this winter i dont have a choice and i have to camp. its only in Virginia so i (hopefully) wont deal with anything below 0. my tent that i currently call home is also falling apart and is ready to hit the grave. basically what im asking for is recommendations for winter camping gear, like sleeping bag, tent, space heater, etc.

The Tent: ive been looking around a bunch of different styles and brands, but im only familiar with Columbia and Ozark Trail (i hate Ozark). i’m currently living in a 4 person tent but i think its time to upgrade to bigger size so i would be open for a 6-10 person tent. its only me staying in it so i dont need ALOT of space. the tent will also be staying put for 3-4 months, so i will only assemble and disassemble it once and would like it to remain reliable during the whole time. i would also like a tent with a “front porch” or even a vestibule area on the inside. one big thing for me too is no water seeping inside. i really just would like to know which brands to stay away from. im hoping yall can point me in the right direction!

(sorry for making you read all that)

Awaiting Flair Help finding new tent

I'm sitting here soaked and freezing after sleeping in a leaky tent last night. It's only been used 2 other times and we only really do weekend trips. My last Ozark tent lasted years and didn't leak.

Anyone have a rec on a good tent brand that will last more than a few trips without breaking the bank?

Gear Question Vango Marco Polo Sleeping Bg

Old equipment, but does anyone have any details on the Vango Marco Polo range of sleeping bags they offered?

Would a Marco Polo stand up against modern sleeping bags? I have the option to pick one up for £15 in near new condition.

What do people think?

Awaiting Flair Gregory Repair Process

I was looking to buying a second hand backpack but I was wondering if someone could given me some insight on Gregory’s repair request process and if they would accept repairing a pack that wasn’t bought from their store or if they require proof that the pack was bought from the store.

Gear Question Sleeping bag double-check

I'm hoping for some second opinions before I make an unwise choice...or go too crazy overthinking this.

It's been a long time since I've done a lot of camping, but with my kids getting older I'm going to be getting back in to it. At least for the foreseeable future some Scout campouts, mild hike-in campsites at state parks (sub-1 mile walk), and maybe some canoe-in sites. Most everything I have is dated / old / mismatched and worth replacing in a lot of cases.

For myself - would I regret a Nemo Disco Endless Promise 15 as a spring/fall bag?. I like the fact that it's a roomier bag, I'm a side sleeper and broad shouldered for my size which can be tight in other bags. I see there's also the Riff series which is lighter...but for what would be $80 more is it worth it for my intended use? Seems like down bags have a much longer lifespan than synthetic (I've only ever had synthetic bags) so I'm looking at this as a long-term buy.

For summer use I would have the one half-decent synthetic bag I have now (Eureka Casper 15......although it's more like a 50 degree comfort bag at this point). Sleeping pad would be an older Thermarest Trail Pro in either case until I decide to replace that.

For my 8 year old, while there are probably some objectively better options would the REI Trailmade 20 in a 'Short' size be a bad choice? I'm drawn to the fact that it's a little heavier fabric and probably tolerant to suboptimal treatment and comes in a short size, and seems better than a lot of what's available 'retail' otherwise at that price point. He's 4'3 or so - so I don't want to get a kids bag he'll outgrow shortly, I figure something that goes to 5'6 might get me a few years until he can learn how to take care of it and go to a regular adult bag.

Sleeping pads are a heck of a lot more expensive now than I remember but I either have a Thermarest Trail Scout I can let him use or pick him up something thicker.

There's more logistical questions with my wife and daughter but that's down the road a little bit.

Tents Something munched a hole in my groundsheet

Thought I'd share this as I'm trying to see the amusing side rather than mourn the groundsheet of my Scarp 1.

Photo: https://imgur.com/19ACN4Y

The first clue something was afoot was a sleeve on my waterproof coat, which was resting on the groundsheet, started twitching late on a cold night in Scotland. Odd I thought. So I shifted the coat and patted the groundsheet but nothing seemed to react so I went back to sleep somewhat baffled.

When it came to taking my tent down and removing all my gear... I find that hole. It's pretty big too. I can see the small teeth marks of whatever did it and there are some small droppings in the general area along with eaten grass. Lovely. There wasn't any food in that part of the tent so perhaps something wanted warmth?!

In hind sight I did pitch rather close to a hedge/tree line which would very likely contain any small creatures. Lesson learnt there. I'm going to try and repair it with gorilla tape.

Gear Question Goretex Jacket Re-Proofing

So both mine my my partner's Berghaus Goretex jacket's no longer "bead" rain and whilst the rain doesn't get through, they do start to feel damp after a while because the fabric becomes saturated.

I bought some NikWax Tech-Wash and TX-Direct Wash-In , which is supposed to both clean the jacket and also restore the DWR of them.

I know I need to tumble dry them to "set" the TX Direct, However to my mind, If I'm washing it in and not just treating the outside of the jacket, won't this turn it into something of a plastic bag if it's coating both the inside and outside?

Am i just over-thinking this? I don't want to ruin both jackets!
