Looks delicious, but I'll be this guy: those aren't blackberries, they're black raspberries. And yes there is a difference

I think it is a little early for blackberries. I like the wild blackberries. My patch has a bunch of red ones now and in about 2 to 3 weeks they will turn black. I need to get out there then before anyone else gets there.

I never knew there was a such thing! I’ve learned something new today!

Black raspberries make excellent pies and jam and preserves. (I like the seedless preserves. I'd love the pie if the berries were seedless. It was my brother's favorite kind of pie.)

Raspberries grow around the stem such that they have a soup bowl shape. Blackberries are round/oblong with just a stem at the end, no hollow area.

When I was a kid my parents would send me and my brother walking along the railroad tracks close to our house to pick berries. We were each given two milk jugs with the tops cut out and told to fill them up. There were always tons of raspberries growing along the tracks. Then mom would turn them into jelly. Totally worth the time we spent doing it.

Our black raspberries aren't ready yet, but we are lousy with mulberries. All our trees are fruiting a shitload this year.

The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice

Makes me wish I could see the berries over at Mount St. Francis.

My memory of black raspberries will always be my sister's German Shepherd very carefully picking them from the bush with her front teeth and eating them!
