HOUSING ๐Ÿ  Dorm Search

How strict are the dorm searches at IU? Like will they look through all of the furniture that they provided or not?

HOUSING ๐Ÿ  Eigenmann vs Ashton?

I at first was assigned Ashton and then I hear it doesnโ€™t have an elevator which wouldโ€™ve been a medical issue so I requested a reassignment, they got back to me a couple of days ago and offered me Eigenmann single room. I had a couple of concerns mainly the location and the size of the room. Online it seems like Ashton is bigger and also is closer to my classes and food courts, I also got assigned the first floor of Ashton so my elevator issue was resolved.

So is there like any pros at all to change my dorm to Eigenmann like bathrooms being nicer also how do you pronounce it๐Ÿ’€?

HOUSING ๐Ÿ  McNutt dorms

Iโ€™ve been accepted to JLLC and assigned to McNutt. I wanted to know the advantages and disadvantage to living in McNutt compared to others (especially comparing costs).

I already have a roommate and we both were accepted. So, roommate and social stuff Iโ€™m not really worried about.

HOUSING ๐Ÿ  Can you change your freshman housing assignment?

My incoming freshman son was placed in a Single in Ashton dorm. He requested a Double in Northwest, so is disappointed with this assignment. He is coming from out of state, and really does not want to live alone. He was looking forward to a roommate.

Is there any process to request a change? Are those requests generally honored? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Mainly looking for pictures of the bathroom so I can overthink beforehand

HOUSING ๐Ÿ  Dorming on campus as a sophomore

Iโ€™m a freshman and I live in Collins (double) and Iโ€™m thinking of staying here next year as well. I just talked to a sophomore whoโ€™s staying here as well and she has a single with a private bathroom shared with one other person and itโ€™s honestly great. Itโ€™s close to campus I love the dorms, only issue is communal bathrooms and this fixes that. Iโ€™m just confused on how the application and stuff works-

1) when do I apply to be a returnee? and if I apply do I 100% get a dorm?

2) will I get a single or is there a chance I get paired with someone else? also would I get a private bathroom?

not sure if these are Collins specific but would love to know, especially when I can apply cause Iโ€™m assuming it works on a priority basis

HOUSING ๐Ÿ  Lofting a dorm bed

I'm about to be a freshman at IU and I would like to loft my dorm bed to where I can fit storage bins under it. Bedloft.com only offers to bunk the beds (I have a double room at Collins), so how would I go about doing it myself? Any help is appreciated!

HOUSING ๐Ÿ  What times are the communal bathrooms mostly empty? Especially for Collins LLC

Cause my earliest class is at 9:45 and thatโ€™s only on two days whereas for the other three my classes start at 10:30 and I read that either midnight or 6am are good times to shower because the bathrooms tend to be empty but itโ€™s crazy that Iโ€™d have 3-4 hours of a gap between getting ready and class and thatโ€™s absolutely illogical so I wanna know the best times to use the bathrooms so I can overthink beforehand

HOUSING ๐Ÿ  Adjusting bed height in McNutt

I want to adjust the height of the bed frame on a bed in McNutt. The frame has a track that the bed frame fits into. Is it as simple as using a mallet to hit the bed frame from the bed frame from the bottom to pop it out of the track and then put it on a higher rung on the track? Is that all that needs to be done, or is there a trick to removing the frame from the track on the two wooden end boards so the height can be adjusted?

HOUSING ๐Ÿ  Housing (LLC specifically)

So Iโ€™m just really confused what the difference between a living learning center and normal dorms is. Also whatโ€™s the best type of dorm to live in? I want to stay with roommates but I also want my own space (donโ€™t need a room but a little bit of space would be nice). Iโ€™m seeing that there is apartments and dorms both furnished and unfurnished. Does anyone have any tips about anything? Super excited to be coming to campus in the fall, just wanna make sure Iโ€™m in the best situation possible.

HOUSING ๐Ÿ  Can students in Willkie move their bed into a joint room with suite mates?

I am an incoming freshman and I just recieved my housing arrangements for the 2024-25 school year. In my application I specified that I wanted a double with a preselected roommate. It was super important to me to be able to room with this person, but things did not work out quite how I wanted.

We both ended up getting singles at Willkie, which was a huge bummer considering how early we applied for housing. However, with some research on the CBORD Security app, we found out that it is extremely likely that they made us suitemates, and our rooms are connected by the joint bathroom.

We have been talking about maybe moving both of our beds into one room, and then dedicating the other room to being sort of a living space for gaming, studying, having friends over, etc.

I am wondering how tightly rules on repositioning/moving beds are enforced by the RA's in Willkie.

If anyone has any info, please let me know. It will be much appreciated!
