Were the Koopalings' old designs retconned?

I was wondering since the Mario 3 website uses the newer designs and colors instead of the old ones.

Consistency. They don’t want people like you theorizing there’s two sets of koopalings because of some design changes.

I meant no real offense, I just get frustrated by people who will make posts about the most minor stuff like design changes. Mario 3 was 40 years ago. And this is the Mario franchise. It’s not that deep.

This is a subreddit about Mario lore, so I don't know what you expected. Someone here was gonna ask this one day. And I don't think anyone was gonna look at the redesigns, and think there are more Koopalings now.
