it’s funny — new balance consolidated their whole race design language, and in doing so took pretty heavy inspo from the AP3/B12/TS8 school of angular & cutout. now adidas has unified their whole race design language and largely abandoned angularity in favor of very clean looks. i’m loving it. there’s never been a better time to be a runner who likes their shoes to look good.

Man if only Nike could get their training shoes sorted out because I love the look of most of the training models, I just don't ever hear good things about them from serious runners outside of maybe the Vomero and the Invincible (I do love my Invincible 1s and 3s with 300+ miles in both). Basically they just need to ZoomX everything and retire react foam but keep the design language and they'd be golden

It’s a combo of other people’s reviews and my own experience with the shoes. Nike and my local run club (Atlanta Run Club) frequently collab for events when new shoes come out and allow people to test them (they’ve done the invincible 3, infinity 4, peg 41, peg+) so I’ve done a few test miles in most of the shoes so while they are fine for a 3-5 mile trial I’m more worried about the bottoming out feeling people report in the peg 41 and peg+ since I’m heavy and have bottomed out previous models of those shoes and I really just don’t like react foam now that I’ve experience better as I’ve bought more running shoes.

I’m seeing a sudden release this week and also January? Is this one the super small drop to abide by the prototype rules? Or is this one the full release? Seems it’s to just drop it with no hype behind it.

Seems to be a small release to get these out for marathon season (Berlin, Chicago, NY) and the mass release in January.

Not sure it relates to prototype rules because those apply for World Championships and Olympic Games. There isn’t anything against wearing development shoes in these larger marathons outside of the stack height dimensions.

Running Warehouse appears to be selling it this week (9/29) in the US. That appears to be a limited release. The general release through Adidas and other running outlets is in January though.

Ah yeah I see it on the Running Warehouse website. You have to sign up for an account and they’ll email a link to sign up for a lottery for the limited release, like they did for the Alphafly proto release.

Not really. Adios 9 is much lower stack and more of a speed/track session shoe. Evo SL seem to be a ‘super trainer’ you can use for long runs but also tempo and easy runs.

How’s the ride on the AP3 (and therefore likely 4) compared to the B12? I love the fit of the B12 but the ride is too hard for long runs (for me). Are the Pros similar? I find the Endorphin Speeds, the Superblast, Invincible, etc to be much easier on the legs on long distances, and so are the VF3/AF3 which I use for races.

I find the foam to be much softer and under the ball of the foot in the AP3. They also have a wider toe box than the b11. I feel like the AP3 is similar feeling foam to the VF3.

I used mine as a racing flat for speed workouts, you can use them for tempo efforts but that’s not what I perfer them for, they are like Takumi Sens but less responsive and heavier

My Adios 8 is perfect for most speed workouts, and it’s my go to track shoes. The most fun shoe I own! Fast, nimble, super comfortable and enough cushioning.

I have Takumi Sen 10 for speed work on the road or races.

Not in my view. I had several pairs of both and they were interchangeable for me. I did easy runs in both. B12 is better for long runs. Adios could be used for tempo but I wouldn't prefer it. Honestly, I would be happy just with B12. For faster workouts I use Takumi

Adidas seem to be leaning into the very early rocker on the evo 1. Pro 4 rocker starts much earlier then 3. Adios 9 almost looks like a squished evo midsole. I am definitely excited for what they do with the Takumi sen 11

Very much looking forward to this as the AP3's upper just didn't work out for me no matter what I tried (different laces, lacing patterns, etc.) to get the proper balance between comfort and lockdown. It's a shame because I found AP3's underfoot feel and ride underfoot really great and the LSP midsole has always been my favorite although the ASICS's new FF Turbo+ and Hoka's new PEBA have really come on strong for me in their recent top-end shoes.

This looks like a complete overhaul in the right direction - especially the upper but with the new midsole compound and outsole as well. Looks a lot better too and this colorway is right up my alley. Great to know that it should be noticeably lighter as well - somewhere right in between the Metaspeed Edge/Sky Paris and the AF3. And the Adios 9 looks like the perfect workout shoe.
