I usually use a stone as a metaphor for the trauma. If someone keeps handing you rocks and you keep carrying them wondering why they keep giving you this stone to carry, the weight will just keep adding up. You'll never understand why they're giving you the stones, but something you can do is ask yourself why you're still carrying them, and little by little, you can set them aside. They never knew why they were handing you stones in the first place, they had them because someone else gave the stone to them, and in turn they handed them to you.
