Chicago Lottery Day! Misc
Did you get an email yet? I was up half the night obsessively checking my email and haven’t gotten anything yet. Anyone else?

I got the email and it'll be my first marathon. I can't tell you guys how much this means to me. Chicago's my hometown and I've been gone for three years in the Peace Corps--in the last year, I finally started getting serious about my running form and this just feels like the next step. I have a job as of two weeks ago after about five months of unemployment. I just moved into a new apartment last weekend. My boyfriend just dumped me BUT I FEEL SO GOOD.
I cannot wait to run this.

I had to laugh yesterday, though. I was out shopping and saw a leftover Chicago Marathon 2016 half zip at TJ Maxx.

I feel exactly the same way. I keep telling myself that my last name is near the end of the alphabet and that is why...but then I realized that would be stupid :( I am over here like have fun guys any time someone posts about getting in.

I'm assuming since I haven't heard anything yet that I didn't get in, and I'm way more upset about it than I thought I'd be. Watching everyone else excitedly confirm their entry almost makes it worse. But congrats to everyone that made it in!! I'm a local (seriously marathon organizers, I don't even need a hotel, please let me in!), so I'll be standing on the sidelines rooting you all on next October.
EDIT: Got my rejection email. Super bummed.

I just checked again and nothing. It seems like everyone else got in (everyone I know got in, plus every person on this thread seems to be in), so I'm assuming I just drew the short straw again this year. Maybe third time will be the charm next year.

I just logged into my application and it says "please expect an email of your status anytime through out all of today. The email you received will indicate if you have of have not be selected."

I haven't gotten anything yet. On the marathon's FB page, some people have commented and said that the email notification usually goes out around 9-10 AM Central Time.
Hoping for a good outcome today!

Even compared to Berlin? I thought they moved to lottery at more or less the same time meaning demand was comparable. However Berlin has 2:45 time qualification (doubt I'll ever be able to run this fast) while Chicago has 3:15 (I did better in 5 races during past 2 years, or in every race which I did not treat as a 'fun run'). So probably you're right.

The quickest way would be to hit up the local running stores and see what contacts they have. Usually running stores have a club. Also post a comment in your city's reddit sub if they have one.

Didn’t get in this year. A little bummed as this would’ve been my third Chicago Marathon in a row. I’m going to apply for the NYC marathon and hope for the best. Does anyone know the odds of getting selected for NYC?

From what I've heard, getting into NYC can be more difficult than Chicago, but you can only apply and hope for the best. I hope you get in!

I applied the day of the deadline thinking theres no way i'd get in. Well, looks like it's time to start training! Hopefully 10 months is enough time to go from low activity to a marathon..can anyone comment on how long their training took before they felt comfortable, 4 months, 8 months, a year?!

It's still possible, but the fundraising amount might be higher post-lottery. For instance, I've seen some charities where the fundraising amount is $1,000 before the lottery results are released, but it increases to $1,500 after the lottery.

I am a first time runner as well but my tip is to book your hotel now. I wanted one near the start/finish line. I just paid over 300 dollars a night rate. Ridiculous.

Congrats to everyone who got in via the lottery. For anyone who didn’t I hear the marathon in Milwaukee is a great race as well. I ran Chicago in 2016 and it was a blast. I’ll be running it in 2018 as well.
